thanks man.. i just went and checked my breaker.. its a double pole, and its says somthing about 150 "ampres" also it says somthing about 240volt. does that mean i shouldnt be running a 120volt ballast?? i am so lost in electrics Pe@ce....

well it sounds like it will have a ballast with it.. so yea. just run your hood to your ballast then ballast to wall. or if it has a built in ballast you just plug n' play....Pe@ce..

150 amps at 240 volt is your main breaker (typically at the top left of most breaker panels)
the breaker that runs the circuit that your stuff is on should be either 15 or 20 amps at 120 volts

hey i was wondering i am getting a 1000w hps set up can i just plug it directly into the wall
yes, but remember, you are now using at least 1000 watts of power, to keep it safe you can only have about another 400 wats of power being used from the same circuit, that includes room lights, tv's anything else thats plugged into the same circuit

oh i think i got it now. each room, has its own circuit, that stems off the main breaker. i have an old main breaker. it has like 30 slots on it... im gonna have someone look at it tomarow though, thanks Gboi.. Pe@ce..

yes, you have a main breaker the feeds power into all the other breakers, each circuit doesnt nesacerilly end up feeding only one room, they split apart all over thats why when your figuring out your load calculations you usually trip the breaker that the plug you are using is on and check to see what other things are off (they are all on the same circuit as the plug)
good luck

im useing 2 110 wires from a double pole 20 breaker to a 20 a single outlet so i have 2 black wires & 2white &2 bare copper lines. i know the bare is the ground & black is hot so the white would be neutral right? but my outlet only calls for the 2 blacks & the grounds so what do i do with the white wires?

dont take my advice but dont you just hook up the white as the 2nd black. just to complete the circuit?? idk man.. pe@ce...

this link should help you a lot http://www.do-it-yourself-help.com/wiring_receptacles.html

for a 240 volt outlet you only need the 2 lives, and a ground

you ran a black from each side of the double pole breaker (that makes up the 240 volts) those blacks get connected to the 2 sides of the plug and the bare wire (ground) connects to the ground screw on the plug, the whites are not needed (you ran 2 120 lines instead of 1 240)

use just 1 line, connect the white to the other side of the breaker so you have the black and white wires connected to the double pole breaker (mark the white so you know its live with red or black electric tape) and connect the black and white (now live, not neutral) to the 2 sides of the plug and the ground to the ground screw

ask questions if you dont get it

hope this helped

how many watts is your light??
does anything else go off besides the 2 tv's??

if you are running a 1000 watt light you should have a circuit dedicated to that light, meaning there are no other large loads on that circuit besides your light
400 watts in fans or pumps would be the max id load onto the same circuit as a 1000 watt hid

when your testing your lights to see if that room only has one circuit on it. is it okay to click the lights right back on. like if i hit the right breaker switch for my grow room, should i wait a minute to turn them back on or is it okay to do it right then...Pe@ce..

first I want to say that doesn't look like a grow light. It looks like you just twisted the wires togeather and didn't insulate the connections. Strip the wire again, peel apart the two parts of the cord some more, get some orange twist marrets and use those to connect the wires so its a good insulated conection, tape over that with electric tape to make sure it won't come undone
