HEMPY 2 Liter SOG #1

Do you plan on doing a journal here or in the other forum? Also do you plan on switching to blue planet nutes in your hempy grow?
I think a read over 420fied's Journals are a must if running 2 liter hempy's, and I have read them both.. Unfortunately we cant compare apples to apples as he is running a lot more light than I am.

Your 600 watters will do great.. I am only running a 400 watt and may upgrade in the future, but right now, I am not unhappy with what I'm pulling and the power bill is high enough

I also second the Question,, Do you plan on switching to Blue Planet nutes, or you gonna stay with the GH 3 Part?
Can wait to see that final weight! I never weigh my stuff before its dry so I have no idea what your wet weight might translate to dry. Like I said, I am gonna guess 11-13g dried.

I just cut down a Gods Bud single COLA plant last week that weighed in at 17.1g dried (grown in FFOF) - I let it go 13.5 weeks in 12/12 to add weight. My BC Gods Bud is sativa dom and it could go forever and continue to add weight. I am not confident that I dried it enough (standard 4 days) since that weight seems super high for soil SOG. I expected it to be SUPER dank after it went it jars but it didn't, it was pretty much normal... I expect if I left it another day or so to dry I would have ended up with a little less than 15g dried. Still pretty awesome for soil.

I have been thinking about a grow journal for sure. I have no experience with GH nutes and considering GH and BP are very similar (in fact identical nutrient value slash lines for the gro, micro and bloom) I will go with the GH nutes. Plus, the hydro shop down the street had the GH nutes already so I scooped those up to start with...

I did NFT tubes for about 3-4 grows and had a bunch of left over botanicare nutes after I abandoned that setup (leaks, constant PH issues, etc) but I want to KISS (keep it simple stupid) for this initial run and not try those again for now.

How long and how do you dry your buds, Rusty?

Keep up the A plus journal. Well detailed. Btw I assume the weight is wet?
Oh Ya!! Its VERY Wet,, and Very Sticky :weed:

You definitely lose a lot during the dry process.. I never weighed until dry before as well, until my last recent grows, and the amount you can lose is QUITE Depressing sometimes :-P

The GH is a good choice.. Its always available locally, which is a bonus. I also ran a couple of 4 Bucket RDWC Runs, and Ya, the constant shifting out of Frozen Water Bottles, Pumps Running, PH Fluctuating, Checking PPM's, Algae, was just a butt load of work.. The Hempy's require about an hour in the morning for watering, and then its pretty much done until tomorrow morning.

I dry my buds in a Dry Rack (new) for about a week, until the Stems give a bit of a snap.. Then into Jars for about a week, but usually break into it earlier, cause once its basically dry, then its good to go. I find the jars are basically just to lock in Flavor and Smoothness, so I continue to Cure until the its all gone. I have an alarm set on my phone that goes off everyday at 10am,, So I uncap the Jars.. Then when the Alarm goes off again at 11am, I put the Tops back on, and do that every day. I am a stickler for the first 2-3 weeks, then I may miss a day or two here or there, but basically just make it a regular part of my daily regime, so everything just gets better with Age :leaf:

Did some defoliating today.. Quite frankly, not much to trim.

They are getting almost 800ppm (.5 conv) and will see how they do over the next couple of days.

I harvested the Back 2 Liters yesterday, and considering what they had to work with, I think they pulled through just fine.
View attachment 2381093View attachment 2381094

Initial weigh in for (13) 2 Liters::
Fruity Chronic Juice = 8 7/8 oz
Northern Lights x Big Bud = 12 5/8 oz

And of course they will shrink down from there.

Also got lots of trimming to make Brownies, Cookies and Candies ;-)

Here is a Pic of the root system... Nothing too crazy,, Looks very controlled and certainly not gonna be root bound anytime soon.

The Current 2 Liters now have the whole tent to themselves for a few weeks. Their stretch was much more controlled, so they are growing more compact than the last run. Since we are at the Halfway point, I FLUSHED real good this morning, and I plan on starting them on the Booster Additive this week.

So far we are seeing NO Difference in growth between the 100% Perlite and the Perlite, Vemiculite mix.

And we also took some clones yesterday.. We took a batch of Fruity Chronic Juice and more Northern Lights x Big Bud.

And with the NEW Clonery, we have NO DROOP... SO I am happy to see the new clone tent is doing a good job so far.

Oh and I Dropped in an Afghan Kush seed.. Its a World Of Seeds breed, so I am actually not expecting much.. I think their a Pretty Shitty Breeder myself and personally have not done well with their seeds, but this was a freebe, so what the Hell.

I needed to revise my previous post.. I originally said I harvest 16 plants, but it was actually only 13 Plants.. We lost 3 to a Genetic Hermie early on.. I was also kinda expecting it.

When I got my digital scale, I had to use it and weighed my shit just after trimming, very time consuming but was having fun. After the dry weight came in at less than 20% got so bummed that I have never weighed wet again.....

BTW, Rusty, I take back what I said about defoliating afer reading more into it. Seems like a very practical management technique for SOG growers given space concerns. I have since defoliated my entire soil SOG setup over the last 4 days and WOW do my plants fit together sooooo much better. I will be potting up my 2l hempy's tonight.

When you pot up your clones do you wait until the roots are long enough to reach the reservoir or do you pot them up and water them daily until they are in the rez?

Yea, Im not a long time defoliator or anything, but I had been reading about the sog growers doing it, so I decided to defoliate my last grow, and it didn't seem to hurt anything.

My suggestion is to leave a couple fan leaves per plant, just in case you are getting any deficiencies, they will be the ones to let you know. Other than that, there is plenty of Green matter left on the plant to capture light energy.. Anyway,, I Just defoliated, so we will see how it goes.

If you go back towards the beginning of this Journal, you will see a pic of the clone and the root structure when transplanting into the 2 Liters. You will also see that the roots are not very big, long, established (take your pic), so I definitely water daily after the transplant. I did one before and did not water daily, and it took MUCH Longer to hit the Res. So now I water daily, and they seem to hit the Res in 5-7 days,, Which is great considering they have quite a ways to go. Once they hit the res, its up to you how often, or not often you want to water them.. My next grow, I am going to experiment with watering less often to see how it compares to my watering daily, and every other day (depending on soiless mix)

Good luck with your 2 Liter!! Water her daily until the roots hit,,, You wont be sorry~

Time for a quick Update!!

The girls are starting to fill in a bit now.. Some are filling in a little better than others at this point. I also dropped their feed back to 650ppm (.5 conv) and started them on the Liquid Koolbloom.
20121026_070633.jpg20121026_070639.jpg20121026_070658.jpg20121026_070707.jpg

Afghan Kush Sprout is 3 Days old today and doing just fine. Pulled her from the dome yesterday and she seems quite happy.
20121026_082424.jpg20121026_082807.jpg

I Cupped a Couple of the clones that were ready, and fed them up 150ppm (.5) to start with.. These will become new Mothers.
20121026_082436.jpg

Opened Vents yesterday for Clones taken last weekend, then Took more clones on Wed.. I will more than likely Strip a Couple of the Mothers this weekend for the Last of their clones, then toss the rest. This will leave me with two more mothers that will provide us more clones until my new mothers get to growin.

Shits lookin great man and I like how u update often.. what's "(.5 conv)"?
Thank you Sir!!

Many PH Testers have both .5 and .7 conversions or just one or the other. I am using the default .5 and like to specify that cause 500ppm at .5 conversion is 700ppm using .7 Conversion. Its a bummer when your trying to follow someones lead, and they specify PPMs, but not whether its .5 or .7, so you don't really know how hot they are running. This is why everyone should just use the EC value, cause its universal.

O ok.. I m followin ur lead now lol.. I've only used cheap bs ppm meters from ebay n never really knew about the 2 conversions but now that uve explained it to me it would seem easier and less confusing to use the universal ec measurement...

U got any yeild expectations yet? Idk what size ur setup is but from what I can see it looks like my setup would work great with the hempys..I'm gonna try this atleast once..keep it growin brother!!

Rusty Shakelford

Yea,, If you purchase your meter from a U.S. company, it will more than likely be set to .7 conversion. Outside the U.S. they use .5.. I have a Hanna Pen, so its defaulted to .5 but can be changed to .7, I just never found the need... If people don't specify which conversion they are using, you are just guessing anyway.

As for Yield, I have always sucked at guessing weight, so I dont even bother to try anymore. I would highly suggest you try a 2 Liter Sog, they are certainly more manageable than big plants,, But the drawback you have, is having to deal with MANY Plants instead of just 2 or 4. Still not sure if I am going to keep with the SOG or go back to Larger Plants.. This run will show me the way :-D

Nice work Rusty.

I enjoy watching other growers build their own 2 Liter army.

May all your buds be dense.
The master makes an apperance!

Rusty - final dried weight yet?? I just got finished drying the first 5 aurora (soil) from my latest harvest and averaged 12.68g each. 22 plants per harvest but I need a larger drying net to cut them down all at once lol... I bet you beat me out with your hempys!

I appreciate that. 13 grams per is a very nice haul. Can you link me to your journal if you ran one? I don't spend much time on RIU so that would save me some search time.

Thanks again.

Thanks for Stopping by 420fied!! I dont think I am going to do as well as I had hoped on this run. I really need to work on my feed schedule,, But none the less, I am sure they will do just fine for me, and I like the smaller footprint of the 2 Liter Sogs,, So time will only tell if I continue in this direction,, But I am sure sold on the Hempy method of growing, whether Big or Small :D

Oh I dont think I am going to beat anybody at growing,, My green thumb has a little blue in it, so I still have some growing to do.

Final Dried weight is::
1.5oz Fruity Chronic Juice
2.25oz Northern Lights x Big Bud

This was off (13) 2 Liter Plants, not necessarily under ideal conditions.. The Fruity Chronic Juice tended to Make Large Nuggets at the Nodes, in Contrast to the NLxBB that makes Fuller Cola's.. I am finishing off this current round of 2 Liters, which are mainly Fruity Chronic Juice, and dont think I will grow the Strain again. On the flip side of that, it sure is a Nice Smoke!! Better Taste and Better High :weed:
