HEMPY 2 Liter SOG #1

Just curious, is this not a perpetual grow? Shipping in a new batch of clones every 2 weeks and kicking out a 3x3 for trimming as well?

I also love my Sativa's, and have some Acapulco Gold seeds that I am dieing to pop, but not sure how or if I can figure them into my equation.
If you pop those AG's I wouldn't run them in a 2L. You may remember my near 7' sativa's in my 2L run. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Your 2L's look really good this run Rusty. I'm waiting to see where they end up height girth & yield.

Yea, I am kinda trying to do a Perpetual, but my timing always sucks, so if I have clones ready and the space becomes available, I will throw them in, and hopefully we can just keep the cycle going.. This of course is also a test to see if a bunch of 2 Liters will yield better than a couple of Big Plants.

Any clones I cant handle will go up for donation.

I am also concerned about the Sativa's in the 2 liter for that exact reason,, I am not sure they can handle it.. We have to keep in mind that Sativa's take longer to finish, and there is only soo much space in those 2 liter bottles.. But Sativa's also do make Taller Cola's, so I may experiment a little.

And for anyone following along,, I trimmed up the Bottom of all the New 2 Liters this morning. Down at the very bottom of each plant was a couple of Side Branches trying to find their way to the light,, So I snipped them off. It was really just the Bottom Node on each plant, so nothing serious.. In another week or so, I will defoliate many of the Larger Fan Leaves so the lights can continue to reach the lower portion of the girls. The node length of this run looks pretty good, not too far spread out, so I think they are looking on track to fill the entire stem with BUDDAGE!! :peace:

I wouldn't worry too much about doing sativa strains in SOG; its all relative in the sense that you will get stretch once you send them into 12/12 but since you arent vegging the overall finish height will reflect that fact. My BC Gods Bud is mostly sativa and does finish a little taller than the indica strain plants, but they dont tower over them. I think its doable..

Rusty- interesting on defoliating the fan leaves. Sort of a trade off you have to consider - the fan leaves provide the light capture system for the stems and buds. Eliminate them or trimming them back yes you will get more light on the buds themselves but might not matter since the fan leaves were helping to add bud weight. I trim the lower nodes and sometimes even more (up to 1/4 of the stem height) in SOG so I agree snipping the lower node - no biggie.

Yea,, That's about what I figure on the Sativa's.. They should grow just about the same, only a bit taller.. I like to trim off just about all of the Fan Leaves about half way or a little further along.. They still have all of the Sugar Leaves (BIG and SMALL) to collect light energy, and just about anything green on the plants will do it, so ditching a few fan leaves does not seem to cause a problem,, and by that time, your in the home stretch anyway, so might as well Bombard them with light.

I also see others running 2 liter SOGs do some major defoliating of the Fan leaves a couple of times during their grows, and it just doesn't seem to effect anything.

I defoliated the 2 Liter Girls in the Back a couple of weeks ago, and left a few of the Fan Leaves. I think you want to leave a few just in case you are getting a Deficiency in any way, those leaves will be the ones to show it to you first. Just a Thought ;-)

Snapped a couple pics this morning of the Nodal Length for these Girls. I think its not bad considering I am only Rockin a 400w HPS.
20121012_185028.jpg20121012_185038.jpg20121015_070901.jpg20121015_070915.jpg20121015_070926.jpg20121015_071036.jpg

Looks like the Stretch has stopped and we hit 14" Tall as of this morning...

It also looks like I found the magic PPM number (630ppm .5 conv). I was seeing a bit of CalMag Def, and this Fruity Chronic Juice strain will claw when under fed, so they can be very deceiving. None the less, bumping up the nutes and watching them, they are a darker green (though a little shiny), Claws have Unclawed, and they are Reaching for the light. They are happy, so I am happy :-o

I also want to note the Lack of heavy Foliage. I might be able to contribute this to the strain(s), and the fact that they didn't get ANY Veg time.. I know in the pics it looks like a jungle, but if you look at the single shots I uploaded, you can see that these are really just not FILLED with Fan Leaves. None the less, we will defoliate in another week or so.

I put together a New Clone tent which seems to be working out. I also built a shelving system out of PVC for clone trays. I will take some pics and upload later :eyesmoke:

Can't wait to see what you're pulling every two weeks once this gets in full swing!

Good to hear you got the right amount of nutes in there to make them fold up again. Definitely wanna see that new clone tent and the before/after defoliation pics.

We needed to move a couple things around, so I thought I would snap a couple pics of the BACK 2 Liter girls, since this will probably be their last week on earth. You can see that they certainly stretched, and provided more Popcorn lower buds than I would have liked, but they have some Juicy Tops, and really look good. The new 2 Liter Run seems to be a little more dialed in, so I expect a better grow with the current ladies.

They were a pretty easy grow with no major concerns or issues, so I cant complain.

Here is a pic of the new Clone Tent with my PVC Shelving. This will allow me to get quite a few Clone Trays in the works

This is now holding a constant temp of 79-82 degrees and 90-99% Humidity.

TOPs in the Dome,, Tops Hardening.. One of them Popped Roots last night!!

3 Clones we took last weekend as a test run. They never even drooped this time..

We Got BUSH!! Moms are getting Bushier every day and I really have to squeeze them into their little 2'x2' tent.

You guys missed earlier posts.. I mentioned that Those back 2 Liters were stuffed under the lights as much as possible before the last harvest, so they did not get ideal light conditions (hence the Stretch).. The NEW 2 Liter run is not having that same problem, and keeping a tighter form. Those back 2 Liters are getting harvested this weekend.

Harvest time is always a happy time. Does that mean you will be starting another tray of 2L's once the big girls are gone??

I was hoping to, but I don't have any clones ready to go.. I am taking some this weekend, but not sure I am going to get enough. Im also still waiting on a couple more mothers to plump up more before I can start cutting into them,, But Vegging Clone sites is taking its sweet ass time at the moment.

I think I am also going to Pop an Afghan Kush seed this weekend,, Since I want to start fazing out the Fruity Chronic Juice, I though the Afghan would be a good replacement. We'll see!!

Girls are still doing fine,, Not Great, But fine.. I decided I dont like the GH Feed Schedule, so Im making a few Modifications and adding a little CalMag to the mix. Their PPM's are up to 770ppm (.5 conv) and since this weekend is the Halfway point, I will probably give them a FLUSH.

Its gonna be a busy weekend.. I am Harvesting the 2 Liters in the back of the tent, taking clones, and popping new seeds.

Looking good, Rusty, make sure to post up dried weight on that first round.. Should be in the neighborhood of 11-13 g each I would guess.

Have you seen 420fied's SOG thread over on 420mag forum? Very worth reading through both of his threads if you haven't yet. Google "Come SOG with me"; very detailed thread, he is making about 15-16g dried using 2l SOG method under dual 600w HPS, 88 plants in a cycle (yes, over 3lb). Straight to 12/12 after rooting.

I just scooped up my first 8 2l bottles this weekend and have 8 aurora indica clones in the aero cloner, will be starting my first round of 2l SOG in a few days once my roots develop just a little more. I will be running 75 perlite/25 vermiculite mix with the base 3-part GH nutes. I will be following 420fied's nute schedule for GH. I am going to run hempy pots under my 600w and get the nutes dialed in before switching my entire room to 2l hempy SOG. I plan on running 72 2l SOG under 1600w.

Looking forward to an update! Cheers

Do you plan on doing a journal here or in the other forum? Also do you plan on switching to blue planet nutes in your hempy grow?

I think a read over 420fied's Journals are a must if running 2 liter hempy's, and I have read them both.. Unfortunately we cant compare apples to apples as he is running a lot more light than I am.

Your 600 watters will do great.. I am only running a 400 watt and may upgrade in the future, but right now, I am not unhappy with what I'm pulling and the power bill is high enough

I also second the Question,, Do you plan on switching to Blue Planet nutes, or you gonna stay with the GH 3 Part?

I harvested the Back 2 Liters yesterday, and considering what they had to work with, I think they pulled through just fine.
20121020_080222.jpg20121020_080234.jpg

Initial weigh in for (13) 2 Liters::
Fruity Chronic Juice = 8 7/8 oz
Northern Lights x Big Bud = 12 5/8 oz

And of course they will shrink down from there.

Also got lots of trimming to make Brownies, Cookies and Candies ;-)

Here is a Pic of the root system... Nothing too crazy,, Looks very controlled and certainly not gonna be root bound anytime soon.
20121020_120710.jpg

The Current 2 Liters now have the whole tent to themselves for a few weeks. Their stretch was much more controlled, so they are growing more compact than the last run. Since we are at the Halfway point, I FLUSHED real good this morning, and I plan on starting them on the Booster Additive this week.
20121020_074921.jpg20121020_074930.jpg
So far we are seeing NO Difference in growth between the 100% Perlite and the Perlite, Vemiculite mix.

And we also took some clones yesterday.. We took a batch of Fruity Chronic Juice and more Northern Lights x Big Bud.
20121021_065000.jpg20121021_064949.jpg20121021_064827.jpg20121021_064813.jpg20121021_064803.jpg20121021_065009.jpg
And with the NEW Clonery, we have NO DROOP... SO I am happy to see the new clone tent is doing a good job so far.

Oh and I Dropped in an Afghan Kush seed.. Its a World Of Seeds breed, so I am actually not expecting much.. I think their a Pretty Shitty Breeder myself and personally have not done well with their seeds, but this was a freebe, so what the Hell.
