any chance they parole you early?
i don't know if they do that anymore. they have a "point system" with mandatory minimums now. i can get some time knocked off if i can get accepted and make it thru an in house drug program.

http://www.bop.gov/inmate_programs/substanceabuse_faqs.jsp
RDAPs are designed for those inmates who volunteer for treatment and have documented druge abuse problems. Programs are available at more than half of the Bureau's institutions.

Are offenders able to gain an early release from incarceration if they complete residential treatment? (top)
The 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act allows the Bureau's Director, at his/her discretion, to provide up to one year early release for non-violent inmates who complete the entire RDAP. The RDAP coordinator and legal staff review the offender's record to determine if he/she is or may be eligible for early release. Offenders who are found to be "provisionally" eligible by policy must complete all components of RDAP, including the institution unit-based program; the RDAP aftercare program while in general population, if appropriate; and community transition drug abuse treatment while residing in a Bureau RRC. For further information on early release eligibility, see Program Statements 5330.11 and 5331.02.

Damn man. Read the 1st page and the last 4 or so.

I"ve spent a little over 2 years behind bars. The last time for 12 months. It wasn't too bad. I had family supporting me from the outside so it made shit much smoother being able to buy stuff from the canteen everyday. And smoke too(back when you could smoke).

I know how much outside support means when you are locked up. I will keep an eye on all this and when you go in, I'll help how I can. If 20 people sent 5 bucks a month, that'd be substantial.

Hang tough man. You'll have my good thoughts.

Edit: just curious, you have a flat 36 month sentence?

One of the worse feelings I ever had was riding a Federal Bus from county jail all the way to Atlanta Ga to the Federal pen. When you pull up in front of this place you know your Fu--ed .I ended up pulling most of my time in Kentucky. Once you learn the ropes it helps. Not gonna tell anyone its ok cause its not. Your locked up any way you look at it. Got my ass kicked 4 different times in Atlanta before I was transferred.Every time I got out of the hole I was back in the next day.Never been so glad to get out of any where in my life.Keep your nose clean and stay away from gangs. Dont even look at them. Sorry for the rambling . Guess I just had to talk .

Yes an no. If you stay clear of them and their friends you tend to stay out of trouble. Not as much trouble in the federal prisons.State prison is where I had the most trouble with GANGS.

Out of all the prisons, the youth prisons are by FAR the worst. -Been There- But even in the worst of situations you can find ways to steer clear of trouble.

I've always heard(from the people in adult prisons) that fed time is the easiest time to do.

i will be at the satellite camp.

thank you all for your support thru all this. it's what gets me by day-to-day. i would love to receive mail, if anyone has a desire to correspond with me let me know. or contact potroast or rollitup for my info after Jan 22.

Been a long time since I was in Sheridan (camp after a several months of diesel therapy... "See the USA via beautiful ConAir, with fun stops in Cook County jail, Terre Haute and,my favorite, El Reno, lol" Also it was a real bitch to fly with your hands "black boxed"). Sheridan the camp, not the FCI, is mellow. (The FCI was controlled movement when I was there and thats where the Camp's Ad Seg units were.) Good jobs are, if you need to be paid, the ICOR (Prison Industries, I think they make furniture there) or, if you don't need the $0.20-$0.40 per hour, get a unit orderly job or they have an outside crew that works off the camp grounds doing landscaping type stuff. There were 2 or 3 separate living units when I was there. Each unit had 3 dormitory style rooms, ie big rooms with 40-60 inmates per room. Kitchen duty was also kind of nice, especailly the salad bar crew. Small library, decent weight rooms and exercise yards with BB courts and a baseball diamond. Decent boxing equipment, heavy bag, speed bag, ropes wraps and gloves. Decent weather (Oregon so rainy but at least you don't have snow detail in June like Duluth MN does). OK sized visiting area but all of it is visible to the guards at all time, no opportunities for a little "private" time with your significant other like Pleasanton and Lompoc had. Your family can visit often and its easy for them to get inside without any major searches or other hassles. They have special BBQ's on holidays like 4th of July, etc. Phone set up was in a room near the guards' and Administrations main place. Almost always a line but it moves fast (15 minute limit, DO NOT GO OVER IF PEOPLE ARE WAITING). (Note: Was never a line for the phones first thing in the morning when the units are released for breakfast.) Always a line for meals though. Don't sweat it though, they almost never run out of food. Take your time. Switch your body to "jail time". "Hmmm maybe today I'll go get my mail and then tomorrow, I'll read half of it". You'll walk a lot. The library had foreign language tapes, check em out learn Spanish or German. Don't tell ANYONE inside about the details of your crime. You'll make friends but don't trust nobody. Remember the Camp Shrink works for the BoP!! Be careful what you tell him. Each unit has several TVs, one for sports, one for black, one for old guys, etc. You'll figure it out when u get there. Was very few fights for the couple of years I was there.. maybe 1/2 dozen. Some he/shes there. Mind your own business and you will be fine. Not much gang activity there, mainly non-violent crimes except for the guys serving the last few years of their sentence for violent crimes (the BoP tries to move inmates to a less secure facility as the inmate gets closer to release). Those guys are easy to get along with, they aren't looking for trouble, just looking to get out on time without another sentence tacked on for fighting etc. However, don't be so whimpy that you get mistaken for an easy mark. Easy marks get picked on a lot and taken advantage of.

Oh, BTW my wife and our 3 small kids came and visited me every couple of months or so and that seemed a good amount of contact. I called them at least once per week though. Whatever you do, don't yell at your wife or be mean to her over the telephone. I did that once and was talking into a dial tone when she hung up. You don't have any control anymore. They do. And don't get frustrated with them if they don't get accomplished what you want done as fast as you want it. Remember, they have lives filled with stuff to do while "you have nothing to do and all day to do it". When you get out and go for your first drive you are going to be amazed at how fast the world seems to move, compared to how you were moving. Most guards and hacks believe that you have "nothing coming". You can fight with them, like I did, but, really, the best bet is to just go along. Your life will be less stressful.

I'll post more info as I remember it, if you want.

Good Luck!

The way Federal "Parole" works is simple. You do 85% of your time in prison, and 15% on intensive parole, that'll be followed by your probation. This is what people refer to as "life on the installment plan." You can, even after you've maxed your sentence (served 100% of your time behind bars.) The first few weeks in prison will be the worst. You won't be raped, unless you act like you enjoy being raped. You normally won't have any problems with others, they want to get outta prison, also. Avoid the younger crowd, they are looking to make a name, and they'll beat "pop's ass" to try to get a little cred. That whole "don't take anything from others, or you are there bitch" ... Not true, but, always know what the payback is. If you get a honeybun, know whether it's going to be 1 for 1 or 3 for 1 (normally the "stores" go up closer to canteen draw day, or payday, depending on the setup of your canteen system.) Don't walk around like a badass. Remember, it IS prison, and some of the people you are in with really are criminals. Don't "keep your head down" ... but, don't have your nose up, so you can't see where you're walking, either. I've done a bit of time, and went through a federal extradition... Been there, done that. It sucks, but, the hardest part is the separation. If you do meet someone inside, that becomes a close friend, develop that friendship, ex-cons, especially when they really are done with bullshit, are some of the most loyal and strongest friends you can have.

Exactly to the point. Amen

i did some time in walla walla closed custody. I didnt get raped. (and i am one pretty man if I say so myself) Theres plenty of fags in prison getting everything they want for a little butthole. Just keep to your own shit, get a job and a tv. Its a lot like high school but the kids are way meaner. Lots of drama and bullshit because theres nothing better to do. Be very mindful of personal space.

Wow. Well... I'm speechless. Pretty happy I hacked all my stuff down a while ago. I seriously just felt a sigh of relief. fdd, sorry to hear about your situation. I've been in some tight squeezes, but... this is rough. Stay strong. The board won't be the same without ya. glad i read this... i have a pretty new outlook on some stuff now.

just make a friend,it sucks but its a hell of alot mor fun with someone to talk to. Never been to prison but ive had a few county jail experiences, luckily each time was like a highschool reunion lol. Easy way to tell i was in with the wrong crowd. FORGET the honeybuns and ramen bro....COFFEE... a single 5$ bag of coffee and youll get 20 ramens ,honeybuns, jolly ranchers envelopes and more with coffee to spare. Just a tip: depending on how long you plan on staying dont start too much shit, a single fight leads into a 6 month long vendetta in there lol. Well best of luck to you my friend. Keep your chin up and you'll be out in no time.Look for the trustee program, its bitch work but it has its perks. Oh one last thing, take jolly rancher wrappers and lay them around your rack at night, youll hear all the scavengers crinkling across the floor trying to steal your comisary goodies.
Keep yourself out of trouble and good luck man.

Yeah... No offense, but, worst advise in this series of suggestions by ex-cons. Jail's jail, that's where you go when you have hope. Prison's not jail -- kinda' like driving through a bad suburb vs. wearing red in the 20s LBA... Prisons and jails are a lot different. For instance, in prison, you get to buy (and keep) your razors in your cell. In prison, you can buy a hotpot with which you can make "prison napalm." In prison, they issue you a lock (remember those movies where they put sodas/locks/soap bars in socks, stuffed books in their sleeves and went at people? That's how a "6 month vendetta" is handled in prisons.) Basically, in prison, you are back "on the street" compared to jail; except of course you're locked down, will never aspire to a job that pays minimum wage -- stuff like that.

That being said, you are going to club fed. Reserved for the rich/famous/white collar/non-violent/short-term guys. Make the best of it, learn some card games, play some dominoes, learn a foreign language, read (you'll have a lot of time for that) and try not to join any gangs. It's harder on the con's family than the con, most of the time... Keep your family close, and understand that just because your world's on ice doesn't mean their world is. Kid's gotta eat, wife's gotta work. Letters might not come too often sometimes, but, they normally will. If she doesn't answer when you call, even if it's a prearranged time; don't get pissed and go back with that anger (that's how you get in fights, or worse) and, if some shit happens that pisses you off, keep it away from the phone. Save serious talk for visits, it helps, you can look each other in the eyes while talking. (And, can briefly hug, and kiss, no tongue, no longer than 2 seconds... Of course, most fed joints have conjugal rooms, so you can more than kiss.)
