To a certain extent yes but defoliation will increase the yeild as he won’t end up with undeveloped bud that’s been light blocked

Not in my experience. It’s more of a space and airflow issue. I rarely remove any leaves. My last plant harvested even had the original single leaves from sprout down there still green.

When I pack them together too tight the lowers suffer.

I’m glad you’ve had a good result not removing leaves but in this case there are a lot of leaves blocking light and a good defoliation will do them the wourld of good in my opinion

I appreciate different methods. But it looks like he has enough space in there to space out some nice bushes.

I stagger my plants for weekly harvests but I do it like this. 3-4 plants under each 600. Plants average 5-6 oz in #3 nursery pots.

the age old question

It truly depends on the situation for your situation it would help your pots are small and the plant will have a hard time getting all the nutes it needs to fatten all the bud sites

If you have plenty of root zone and light never defoliate it will hurt yield but your situation is a bit different, always go with big pots its a simple you want more bud you need more roots to gather nutrients

so your getting a pound to a pound and half under each 600? or 6 oz in three gallon pot

I leave it all. I like jungles. Yields turn out excellent. Given a proper environment and proper feeding buds will fatten up and harden even below the canopy. The process of photosynthesis is what powers the plant and makes it grow. No way I'm removing the very part of the plant where that takes place. Fan leaves are the main engines.

This picture shows the tops well developed but the side branching and anything under that canopy of leaves is just larf popcorn it would be greatly improved if you defoliate and opened up the light to the canopy throughout nice pic tho bro

Yes but it is variable as I plant a different seed or cutting every week to 10 days. I have done 22 with 4 known seed plants grown together.

And some of he plants in the pic right now are 12/12 from seed. I have been changing my veg tent / lung room next door around. But I just keep the system going for everyone.

Last time I did 12/12 from Ch9 seeds I averaged 3-5 oz per. Nice sativa leaning stuff.

I disagree. Much of the bud below the canopy was well developed rock hard buds. Some was larfy and that literally got stripped off the stem and saved for dry ice hash. I've defoliated in the past. I've found that I get bigger cola's and the same amount of bud when I don't defoliate. Focusing on a good environment and not stressing your plants by overfeeding is more beneficial than removing fan leaves in my experience.

I agree.

Small pot. Huge fan leaves and buds stacking all the way down. I have only snapped off any leaf that breaks with very little pressure. And it’s to get even more airflow through to help lowers mature.

The light feeds the leaves. The leaves feed the buds mostly. While the buds and leaves do photosynthesis it is not as nearly as much as the leaves.

I have found massive buds in the middle of the plant hidden by a big fan leaf many times.

sorry to butt in - but, to add my 2 cents... I figure by cutting the large fan leaves that block the buds below a zero return, as the bud they support will suffer (more yield down below vs less up top). I go by the philosophy that if you need to cut a fan leaf because it's blocking a branch below then that branch below shouldn't be there. Better to learn how to properly grow/train your plant, learn your strains etc in my opinion.

I like your way of thinking I know this is an old post. I’m trying to make my environment better

a wise old man once told me "its not what you cut, its what you dont cut" ;)
Very wise words indeed ;)

Yeh, I like jungles. Here’s my current jungle:

They have gone through hell with an invasion of broad mites, but finishing strong imo, all things considered. Fill the canopy, only main colas, LST the hell out of them, utilize all the light... in the pic, I have 9 plants, each trained using the nebula manifold technique to achieve 8 main colas per plant. This equates to, more or less, only vendable flowers. Like this girl:

Like I said. I've defoliated in the past. I prefer not to defoliate. But just to keep an open mind. On my next run which will be of the same strain I'll defoliate half and leave the other half alone.
How’d you go with that? Fotos?
