Is it safe to create organic soil and mix organic nutes?Should gloves and masks need to be applied? My soil mix is Pro-mix, dolemite lime, Foxfarm Ocean Forest, Perlite. Organic nutes are Bmo. Do organic nutes post a health risk, I know there great for the girls, but can you get sick

The real concern is your lungs; those can't be washed so easily. A dust mask is a great idea when working with certain things like sphagnum peat moss, dolomite, dry fertilizers and guano especially. Inhaling guano dust poses the risk of Histoplasmosis which is a fungal infection.

So true! I better invest in a dust mask

If you go around collecting cow dung or bat guano yourself, then you might want to do the whole gloves, eye protection, and dust mask thing. If your buying commercial products from a store, chances are pretty high the manufacture already sterilized it. I still wouldn't go lick my fingers after I got done mixing my soil. Also, a shirt can double as a mask if you really need one. Just tuck your head and pull your shirt up.

It's like my range master always says.... we play with big boy rules. We don't need no stinkin' safeties.
