Having trouble connecting my fan to carbon filter

I'm getting a light plant smell when the lights go out, I'm thinking the connection between my fan and carbon filter is not airtight.

My fan is connected straight to the filter, and exhausts out the tent.
I used the good foil duct tape, but its not flexable at all, and I'm thinking there are gaps i cant see. I have tore if off twice and redone it to get a good seal.

Any suggestions on how to make a good air tight seal?

Actually the fan fits inside the filter, and its not a tight fit, big gap, so taping it is akward.
Maybe i should find some ducting and use clamps...uggh

I was thinking some good rubbery duct tape high quality that sticks good, and use that maybe i can get a better seal, anyone know a good brand.

its a huge filter 550 cfm and fan is 380 cfm in a 2'x4' tent (8sq ft lol)(overkill) , but i dont want any smells. any help appreciated

heres how i have : see the connection there
where else could the smell be coming from?

would say the zipper seams and around the exit of the blower. If your tent is super humid the filter will not work as well

Humidity at less than 50%
Running ac, my taped connection at filter to fan is less than ideal. Anyone have ideas?

@KryptoBud is right about the fitment of the two. You made need a piece of 6” pipe and a crimping tool. I’ve 2 kinds of filters both same size but pipe was all off by a hair. Also did you shake it up any? One of mine had directions that included shaking it to loosen the carbon from shipping.... IDK

a rubber compression ring would work well too, just have hangers on both fan and filter,i did this to a IBC tote, hooked to a water speckit

Hmmm ok well they are both 6”

Yea i got a 6” phresh filter
And a 6” fan for this tent (ac infinity 6”)
https://www.amazon.com/AC-Infinity-CLOUDLINE-T6-Thermostat/dp/B074XBXFPD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1535855683&sr=8-1&keywords=ac+infinity+cloudline

The phresh filter opening is larger than the fan opening.
Wats up with that, am I missing a piece on the filter? I wonder if its an 8” filter. The box said 6”. So should the fan slide in snuggly to the filter, cause its got quite a gap.

Any suggestions thx

Yet the fan sits inside the filter opening with alot of gap. Maybe half an inch.

Maybe your shit is Dank As Fuck!!!! right?
Alright man look, I do HVAC for a living so....sometimes pipes and inlets are off abit. Yours sounds like a lot. No problem though, go to the hardware store and buy a roll of
“Foam Tape” it will fill that gap for you. Your filter is bigger than your fan..... that’s a good thing. You want the “dank” to be pulled through slow enough to get snagged by the carbon. I hope I’m helping, a stinky house or apartment isn’t good sometimes

Do you have a fresh air fan? Pulling air in? That’s positive pressure and it’ll push through the seems of tent

Looking at your link the fan is 5 3/4. Build it up with tape like GNC said until it fits snug into the filter, clamp it and you should have no more smell.

Doesn't make any sense. I looked at the link and it says 6". So something is off somewhere. You should be able to take a short piece of 6" ducting and two clamps and connect the fan and filter.

The description says 6" but the measurements show 5.79".
It's odd they say if that measurement is ID, OD, or center line diameter.

The OD of both the fan and filter should be slightly under 6" so that ducting can fit over it. They say 6" but it's really slightly under. I don't think it's meant to be mated right up to the fan. A short piece of 6" diameter flexible ducting will fit over and clamp to both the fan and filter. If you connect the fan directly to the filter the vibration from the fan can cause the charcoal to settle in the filter leaving airspace at the top and unfiltered air to pass through.

are you turning your carbon filter off or to a lower speed when lights go off
my plant smell more right after turning lights off and reducing fan speed because humidity goes up when lights are off for me
the fan is probably leaking air from the housing. i am guessing you can remove the middle of that fan and it had two clamps holding the fan in the center or is it all in one built
i had a fan that disassembled and it leaked allot

I didn’t know that, I use 2 6” inline duct fans and I have a 4” vivosun also. The4” is quiet also but it has a cheap plastic housing.

Iv had the same problem have got my 4 inch fan connected to 4 inch ducting witch fits straight over the fan and is clamped on, was hoping to bable to do the same with the phresh filter I brought with was also 4 inch, the box said it was 100mm and my ducting is 102mm so should fit on perfectly but the filter is more like 105mm and the ducting fits inside so have had to connect it with tape.

Thought I was looney for a minute cuz 4" ducting that came with the T4 cloudline does not fit over Vivosun 4" filter. Driving me crazy.

Go to the plumbing section of the big box stores. They have a rubber connector that is the diameter you want and about a foot long. Easier then working with the duct and makes the fan more quiet

Yo I'm in the same boat. They are loose as shit. I mean the clamps won't even clamp them together properly
