Hello. My baby is almost done (at least a part of it) and i want to ask for your opinion about when to harvest. New bud sites appeared. Should i cut only the mature ones and should i keep under 12/24 light until they're all done?

Short growing journal:

Veg period 61 days with hps 400w (24/0 light - 5 weeks with 2 clf [110w both]
- 4 weeks hps 400w)
Flowering 74 days with 12/12 light hps 400w.

Any advices before chop her?

Thanks.

I would wait until the majority of your pistils are orange. Not all of them, but at least 90%. It seems the standard response to this is condition of your trichs. do you have a scope? Probably the best way to know when to pull

It's perfectly ok to chop off the mature buds and wait for the others to gain up. Cutting the mature ones will divert more nutes to the younger ones, making them finish faster, while the older ones are already hung up for drying. It's a win-win situation.

Thank you for your answer and help :). What about harvesting, this is my first grow and i don't know exactly when to harvest. I don't have a scope and i'm trying to take closeup pictures with my digital camera.
How much more should i wait?

Thanks :).

For a first grow that looks like a bang-up job there!

If you don't have a magnifying instrument (I don't think digital cameras zoom enough for this) it's best to go after the pistils. When over 75%-80% of the pistils are red, you can consider harvesting. The peak of cannabinoid production would be, but isn't always when over 90% of pistils are red. Be a pro, wait for the pistils to go over 90% red.

ok, i will wait for the pistils to go over 90% red, but because you are much more experienced then me, how long would it take to achive that number? Now, i'm assuming 60%-70% are red, what do you say? take a closer look at the photos. Thank you for you quick replys.

All the best!

Yeah, that does look like 60% red pistils. I'd give it another 5-10 days max depending on strain and it's speed of bud production.

Thanks m8. I will keep an eye on those pistils and i will return here with more pictures and infos. I've cut a bud today and i've wrapped it in a paper bag. I will dry it on my central heating (around 30 o celsius) and i will smoke it in a few hours. Thanks again and good luck with your own growing/smoking :D.

ps: the strain is feminized white widow. about 60 new buds appeared (on the lower branches) and they are in their growing phase... She's already in the 74'th day of flowering, much more then i expected. Flowering time should be 8-9 weeks and i'm in my 11'th week of flowering.

oh, my trichomes are clear and still white (i don't have a scope, but i've used some magnifying glass). I can't see the brown reflexes on my bud leaves yet... i should be able to see that only with my eye?

Thanks.

Well, then you're well advised to wait a bit more, until you have some milky/amber trichomes. Trichomes tend to change in a very unscheduled manner, so there's no telling when they'll change, but I presume it'll be in the next 7 days.

I know, feminized plants tend to grow slower and growing in soil will only add another week to any growth.

PS: I don't think you can actually see with your naked eye what color the trichomes are, but I may just be wrong.

great job bro, good job being patient about the flowering time. sometimes i go 10 weeks if it is necessary. but you still may want to wait a week or so. + rep

First post was on 1-14-2009. Now we are in 1-20-2009, so it's the 6'th day. I will attach one more photo with a bud. When do you think it's best to cut her, in 3-4 days, or should i wait more?

Thanks m8
