Most gun deaths are from short guns. After all 64% of all gun deaths are self inflicted. But of the other 36%, most of them are two guys shooting each other. Mass shootings with semi auto, high capacity rifles are the lowest percent. But since it's white kids shooting white kids in schools, it gets all the ink.
So if we are serious about cutting down on gun deaths, hand guns is where we need to start. England and other places have taken this route.

Suicide effects many, not just the person who ends their lives. More vets are dying by their own hand than died in combat in these recent wars.
I'm defending nothing. I was just pointing out the numbers. If lowering gun deaths is the goal, controlling the number of short guns will be the most efficient way of doing it.

Controlling the number of short guns would be a great step in the right direction. The only problem I see with doing that is there will be fewer gun related suicides by gun owners. But I'm OK with that trade-off.
