ok im growing a plant for the first time and i know i have a 50/50 chance that it might be a male..ok so my question is does the male need a female plant to actually produce seeds?

yep.. just like a man needs a woman to have a baby :) or at least for a natural baby :)

the male gives off the pollen and the female buds collect the pollen and the bud sites start producing seeds..

Na you trippin
males produce pollen sacks and pollen sacks only
you may get a hermie wich will produce both bud and seeds.
but a 100% male wont seed

Growing Marijuana is not the most difficult thing to do. Its a weed that will grow almost everywhere. The yield will depend on those circumstanses and on the fact if they get fertilized.
Fertilized females will grow smaller buds because she will put all her energy in making new seeds for next year ( a real mum). If you don't know the diference between a male or a female plant or you don't have the time to check them everyday, it could be wiser to get some feminized seeds or clones so you're sure you only get female plants. One male can destroy most of your yield and you end up with a lot of seeds but almost nothing to smoke.

Crazy, your confussing the Dude. Gangjibaby said it simple & correct. Write it down. Males produce mature pollen a lot faster than the females have the buds ready to "catch" the pollen. I kill the males in my first grow, but plant a month later, save one nice male & confine seperately. When the Buds are all sticky, you can do one of two things. Put a chosen female in with the confined male, or, what I do, put a zip-lock bag over a males branch, & shake pollen ingto the bak. Zip it & wash off the outside, change clothes- your clothes will be full of pollen. Take the bag & put it over 1 or more branches, & shake the bag to pollenate only what you chose. The end result, a full pollenate plant, so many seeds, not worth smoking, but you'll get about 2,000 good seeds. Or, a couple hundred off a couple branches. Or, kill all the males & continue to pay $100. bucks for 10 seeds.

No males do not produce bud, they do not produce seeds. They make male flowers.
Females bud and will make seed if pollinated by the males.

Next Step. In the middle of nowhere, when the ground temp is 50 or above, just before a nice mellow rain, throw out 1,500 seeds, & walk away. It's best when the wind is blowing. Throw them up high, let the wind catch them. For a dry-run test, do the same with bird seed, see what happens. It's awesome.

Thanks Tex!!!

cool thread for the info... i'm just keeping my male around the house as a decorative plant in the balcony!!! Not anywhere close to the females!!!I want to see what happens to it... and in case plants do communicate (pretty crazy i know), i don't what my male to tell my girls what's in their future!!!

Males are only good for their pollen... IF u get a male just get it out of the grow room.. save some of its pollen incase u want to breed... then KILL KILL KILL
