Growbox, anything missing?

Hello again! First time as a cultivation hobbyist, I was growing outdoors but decided to try with a grow box for better pest control. I might take it back outside and use the box just for babies, if the box proves useful. I got all of the supplies from wal-mart. Consists of:

2 x Stacked Rubbermaid tubs
2 x cans Flat white paint (made for plastic)
2 x 100W fluorescent growlights
Drilled intake ventilation holes
1 x 4-inch high intensity fan

Pretty basic, I know. Did I mention it's my first attempt at a growbox? I've attached some pics, not very good quality, the camera sucks. At times i'm not sure if it's getting enough light, and other times the tips of the leaves brown a bit and i'm afraid it's getting too much. The leaves stay about 5 inches from each light. I plan to add CFL's through the top of the box later, think this will help enough to matter? Suggestions are very appreciated!

-Caleb

Good idea! Except the lights are bolted on from the top half, the lights extend all the way to the top of the box so i'm pretty sure light reaches the whole plant evenly

fair enough buddie but i would get some reflective sheeting n watch that fan mate could give ya plants wind burn...
but i'd wait untill i see it before i'd move it

wow, i was about to go to a shit ton of trouble to build a big wooden box, this looks so much easier and low budget, which is exactly what i'm lookking for, can you take a pic of outside the box, showing the whole setup?

i have 5 plants i just started trying to grow and they're in a temporary cubby hole thats a little more than 2'x2' with 2 24" flouros over them...think i could use what i got and put it into a box like yours? with ventilation and fans of course.

are you going to use an HPS for flowering?

Yes, the lights I have upright on either side of the plant are 24" fluoros, the whole set up stands about 3 feet tall, I decided to use the lights on the sides to promote bushing as opposed to plant height. There's a very light breeze inside the box because I only use one fan for ventilation and holes for intake. I screwed the lights on the top half so that the box is easy to break apart for access to the inside. The holes make for a good way to observe the plant's condition without actually opening the box. Im having a high humidty though, so If anyone has any good tips for that (besides the open water containers that I have). I dont plant to use an HPS, though I would really like to, because of the price. As I said, I'm just dabbling in cultivation right now and see no sense in spending money on something i'm not really good at yet. I'll add another 100w in CFL's to hang inside the top of the box soon.

But to answer your question again, I think you could easily fit 5 plants into a rubbermaid box.

More pictures! Got that outside view for reinstorm, to prove it's practicality. Im germinating somemore bagseed, I'll probably take big ben (whos hopefully a girl!) back outside mid august and use the box for the seedlings.

BTW, anyone feeling charitable feel free to buy an HPS for me ^____^

Ok uhm...I know the pictures make the lights look like blacklights, but they are just white light. Not soft, just white ass fluorescents.

sup smoke bro howz it goin mate......
kk so don't worry bout wind burn for a while mate!!
you might not get it cause you got small ass fans but i dunno so just watch for it k man.. the 100w over the top sounds like a good idea make them bushy bastards:mrgreen:

Nice little box, but I would advise painting the inside with flat white paint. Better light reflection that way.

Thanks!

The box IS flat white on the inside. The very bottom of the box isnt painted because I ran out, heh. But the rest is covered very well and the box kinda glows from the inside from reflection. I couldn't find any place around here that carried mylar, which is what I would prefer.

I'd like to re-pot the plant into organic soil, as it is in Miracle Grow soil and i'm kind of afraid to add plant food or fertilizer to the mix.

I'll take more pictures later as the plant progresses or setup alters.

P.S - I've heard lots of things about bat guano as a fertilizer and was considering ordering, would it be worth it?
