Carbon filer and muffler will be needed for smell and noise they also help trap mold spores and other things you don't want in your grow area. May even need a heater/AC and possibly a water chiller not sure on temps in SD but imagine it gets hot. Could grow in soil or COCO and eliminate the water chiller but still need to regulate the temp. a 3x3 would probably fit in your apt very nicely though and solve a majority of your problems. I would suggest a 4x4 though as once you get the hang of it you could pull a pound from a 4x4 per cycle. Ultimately a good starter setup would be a 2x4 for veg and a 4x4 or 5x5 with a 4x4 grow area and you can get a perpetual grow going. As soon as the flower tent is done you will have veged out plants from the veg tent to put in and start flowering.

@Mr.Kku you are really close to Timber Lighting http://timbergrowlights.com/ they are by the 56 & 15 if your in SD would defiantly stop buy there and window shop the COB's if I was you! Live a few hours away was thinking of driving there myself to get a new light instead of paying shipping, but ya i'm lazy lol.
Yes definitely heard of them ! What would be most cost efficient ? Ordering the COBs over seas or timber themselves ?

There are many different places to get COB's already made or DIY kits. But be careful and do your research as the COBS can go from low quality $2 chips to high quality $50-$80 chips The high quality ones put out the correct spectrum and are efficient. Cheap ones not so much. Basically after they are manufactured they are graded good ones are top bin bad ones bottom bin. Your so close to timber I would really go there as thy could give you more advice.

Some premaide companies I like

@CaliSmokes don't imagine anyone here reporting you but you never know... Don't think "I was joking" will get you off if they do though. I think it's stupid that getting pissed and talking smak on the internet can get you arrested but that's the age we live in. Hell if that was the case when I was little I would be under the jail for life

Cali was trying to let you know that California has crews that knock off stuff like this constantly in an oddball kinda way. Me personally would not risk getting picked off. You know you will spend much time in the space. Gonna cause noseyness for sure.

my vote is to get a 2X4 tent and a couple 300w blurple led. throw that in your garage and put a dresser in front of it. 4" carbon filter and fan.

light timer $10 at home depot.

total would end up around $400 if you do a soil grow. you may be able to source most of it much cheaper via your local hydro shop.
doing a soil grow would make this both stupid cheap so you can learn and as stealthy as placing a dresser in front of it and being able to unplug which would shut down the fans.
it's a stupid cheap and quiet setup.

buy cheap to see if it's something you like doing or if you even can. it would be a bummer to build a 8X4 tent with a flood and drain hydro system and a $1500 cob light and find you just dont have a green thumb. what would be worse is if you built that in your garage and got robbed. hell, a 2X4 would fit in your bedroom closet.

remember, you can always upgrade. if you respect your gear, you can sell it after you replace it. or you could use the 2X4 to veg and flower in a 5X5 that you build later.

I vote entire garage in sections . I got gorilla's sitting in bags now cause I built out the space instead. Much much happier I did and was a lot cheaper than buying a tent.

Custom is always better for an experienced grower, just what you want and how
What size tents?

Get a 3x3 or 4x4 tent
Look at northerngrowlights.com and cobkits.com if your defo going to DIY, overseas means taxes ect and they are only fractionally cheaper so USA bought from the right people is about the same.
Cree COBS have come down in price but are still a little bit more expensive but more efficient at lower currents.
Citizens COBS are cheaper and better for higher currents.
Veros are reasonable prices but I don't know much about them, I believe the new generation are pretty good.
Either way with COBs you can light up a 4x4 with less than 600w. You can light up a 3x3 with about 9 citizen 1212s which cost $13 each ran @ 1050mA which would only come to 350w at the wall and would be lots of light, you could go lower still and power them @ 700mA and be using less than 250w. Factor in around the same cost per cob for the heat sink or more if you go higher wattage per COB and work out how many drivers you would need. Can be done at a reasonable price but its amazing how the little things like wire, aluminium frame, TIM, connectors, adapters, lenses ect can add up.
The wise choice would be to have the power if you need it and dim them down in the hot months.
Same applies for the fan you already have, get a night and day fan speed controller and let it manage the temps. A 6" fan turned down will be quitter than a 4" fan on full. Acoustic ducting will help.
I would be building a false wall at the back so your tent is not in view when you open the garage door or getting some large wardrobes or something to disguise it. You could just grow in a large wardrobe or build something that looks like a tool store.
Get yourself a work bench and a hobby you have reason to be in the garage for.

Anyway if your going to do it regardless just be safe as possible, think about all challenges, where will you extract your hot air to? Where will you harvest and dry
If you have not already done so I would delete the photos you posted, you might need to ask forum mods to do that for you.

Good luck
