Grow Room Project Build - Construction!

Hey all,

I'm still going at it, but the last couple days I've been sidetracked. Today was the worst.

Lost one of my best buddies today, and had to bury him as well.

He was a cool cat, and as while he has lived in our home he and I had many lengthy conversations about many subjects over the last 3 1/2 years that we had the pleasure of having him.

Last evening, 2 stray dogs, a Pit Bull mix and a lab looking one came through our back yard, and went after Sebastion on the back deck and chased him down a back hill where they went at it. Unfortunately, I wasn't home at the time, and got home about dark. It was too late to be heading down that hill to search, even with lights. He put up one hell of a fight (I found him today), but a 16 lb. Persian, even one with his attitude, was no match for a Pit and a Lab that are known in the neighborhood to "tag-team" another dog or a cat.

Some guys like dogs..me, I love cats, and this one was close to both my wife and I...slept with us most nights, and we just this year let him out unattended for short periods as he looked so unhappy always looking out the window..wanting to be outside too.

Let me tell ya, he left the world a Warrior, and when I found him tonight and prepared to bury him I took several chunks of those dogs out from between his claws...they paid a price to get him...and will pay a MUCH BIGGER one as soon as I can find them. He rests in a place of honor on our property, overlooking the valley.

Tonight we got notice (ie: approval) from the county animal control that the dogs have been declared "Dangerous", and I can shoot them on sight if they enter my property at any time.

Rest assured, my 12 ga. is sitting by the back door, loaded (no plug) with 3" mags of BB's, and a 28" full choke. I ain't having no F%$#@! mercy for any dog that comes on my property, anymore. If I don't know the dog, and it even looks like it is going to act aggressive, it's over.

Sometimes life just sucks. Had to tell my wife that I found him...damn.,..that was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

So, I raise a bowl to him, and wish him a good journey, hoping our paths will cross again someday. Cat Heaven just gained one of our best.

More tomorow as the veg room is now complete. I'm too bummed to write about it tonight.

Too many brownies
Sorry to hear that...its really upsetting losing a close pet. I had the same thing happen to a cat and two rabbits. We had a group of 4 stray dogs that ran around and attacked all sorts of pets in the area. They finally found them and put them down. Anyways the grow room looks great man it obviously has tons of potential and should give you some great grows. :peace::peace::peace:

Thanks Nowstopwhining...good to know that there is more than one cat lover on the board! I gotta tell ya, after 25+ years of hunting, trapping, etc. I can skin a bobcat and eat breakfast at the same time (been there, done that) but finding my buddy all torn to pieces by those dogs was just more than I could bear. I did hold it together long enough to get him cleaned up and set for burial. He's under his favorite patch of lawn grass..(never understood why, but he would sit, lay and hang out in a small area of a big lawn...always the same spot.)

Wife and I are doing OK now...pets ain't people, but still, I'll miss that ornery bastard.

Quick room update:

Veg Room is near complete, and now in a usable state! I've been wanting to get the plants under the 600W Conversion bulb (MH) and away from the CFL array. I don't think they liked the CFL's after living under my pal's 1KW lamp, and they look happier this morning after just 8 hrs under the MH.

I've raised the platform another 3" since this shot was taken...with a 600W MH lamp, should I still have the plants closer to the light? This is my first grow, and will start a journal tonight, but I hate to leave the "kids" so far from the light if they should be closer. I can move them up another 4" without feeling like my hand is getting overly warm (not hot though).

Room temp is good at 76-78, or should it be warmer?

Power station set up, below. Sloppy for now, but will get this cleaned up nicely over the next couple weeks as I finish the exterior of the rooms and can run some decent 240V power over there and wall mount all the wires and ballasts.

If those plants are as tall as they look to me?? about 4" to 6" start moving the light closer. Looks like its about 2' now. Move it down or the plants up about 6" and then and inch or two per day until they are about 1' apart. Of course ventilation will be key while you do this. VV

Howdy VV,

Damn...good guess on the plant height. I measured tonight and they average 5 1/2" at the top. I added some 2X4's under the plant stand last night and raised the plants up about 4 1/2", and now the reflector bottom is 12" from the top of the tallest of the 4 plants.

I watered tonight as they felt dry; I've been watering every other day giving 1/4 cup ea of bottled water. Once we get rain (tomorrow likely) I can save up a few gallons of fresh NW rainwater. Tonight I added 1 small eyedropper drop of Grow Big per 1 cup of water. Hoping to perk them up a bit now that they are in their new home and living the good life.

This NFO seems quite happy with the surroundings..

But this one seems to be having a hard time of it..maybe not? .not sure what to do, but hoping it starts vegging better!

Need to get a good PH tester, as this was not a soil mix I put together, but one from the guy I got the clone from and I don't have any idea the PH.

What would be the best temp to keep the veg room at? Prob. I have here is it gets damn cold in the winter, and this room is built on concrete slab so i"m sure I'll need some heaters for the ambient room air that is brought in through the inline fans to the room. I'm running a 250 CFM inline each way...1 going in and 1 coming out. The light is well cooled by it's own exhaust fan brining air through it. Currently it is a steady 79/80 degrees, and I've got a small turbo fan in the room directed to reflect it's flow of the wall and over the plants..seems to give them nice fresh air and moves all the air in the room.

your on the right track. those temps are fine for now and you have some time before winter. Do check your humidty level as well. The air movement sound fine. Keep it up. VV

Hey Dizzy. My heart goes out to you and your wife for the loss of your cat. I had the same thing happen my last cat who I was really close to. He was really friendly and happened to walk into a nearby apartment which had a big dog. Anyways I know how you feel. Oh, and good luck with the grow.

Thanks for the warm thoughts about my lost buddy..damn, I do miss him. My wife is taking longer to get over the trauma of it all, but she is doing better each day. I swear, losing this cat has been like losing a family member...(and except for my dad, I was much closer to my buddy than my family members.)

Grow is going well, and THANKS! for the kudo's. It's been a hellofa lot of hard work.

I'll be posting on another site, mostly, now. Nice folks here, but the kids are getting to me.

Sorry to hear about your cat, really bad news. I hate it when i've lost pets in the past. But shooting dogs is no better than what those dogs did to your cat, except they are animals and dont know better. What if the roles were reversed and your dog escaped and killed a cat. Would you want sum1 shooting your dog.
I love all animals and therefore think it is cruel to harm any animal and what if you shoot an innocent animal.
