Grow container size question..

quick question about choosing the right sized growing container (pot or bucket).

What size should I probably bet on using if I like to keep my plants 2.5 feet or less in height?

I know.. you also need to kinda know when to switch the plant(s) over to 12/12 since all plants will at least double if not triple in size once they begin flowering... but I can usually get it within a reasonable limit either way.

but yeah so ehhh what.. maybe go with about a 1 gallon size? 3 gallon size?

just wondering because the growing pots I currently use.. fucking aren't that big. Hell the biggest growing pot I have.. I think is like.. alright well its exactly a 6" clay growing pot. So it says on the bottom of it..

So yeah.. there's not a whole lot of room for roots to get to their full potential you know?

I have some new strains on the way as I type this right now.. so I'm just wanting to get everything cleaned up.. and get some new pots before the seeds arrive in the mail.

Thanks in advance.

check out my grow.. those are 1.5 liter pots.. so less then half gallon??

If the plant has everything it needs when it needs it.. there's no reason for it to tie itself up looking for food/water..

Pot bound is grower related I think.. Pot size actually helps control plant size and stature..

I will be posting pics of the root balls when harvest them.. So stay tuned if your interested..

Don't use clay pots, makes watering a bit trickier as they evaporate water faster

and for 2.5 ft I would go with 2 gallon pots, but 1 gallon would work

my plants grew 4x their veg stage size. depends on genetics. i would suggest 3 gallon pots. a plant being rootbound will effect its yeild significantly. will make your buds fluffy. <-----experience

I forgot to mention I have to water them every other day and once I had to 2 days in a row.. That's a downfall.. BUT like I said if they have everthing they need when they need it where they need it.. they have no reason to tangle their roots up looking for nutrients and water..
Drip hydro systems=small root systems.. way smaller then soil..

I'll show you some pictures of my root balls and the plants at harvest..

Thanks for the help and tips Riddleme.
+rep for ya.

Don't use clay pots?? Eh, I know what you mean by the water and clay pots.. but again I've been using clay pots ever since I started growing... so I'm use to using them.

But yeah.. so 2 gallon ones is what you would suggest?? I'll give that a try...

thanks man.

Are these pot bound???????bongsmilie

Any bigger on those white skunks and they would fall over when the pot is dry.. the colourfull fat one takes a little touch to knock it over when the pot is dry.. They are close about a foot and a half close to 2 feet.. I will measure tomorrow.. That master kush in the small ass pot probably half a liter???
does it look root bound??

root bound is grower related.. :bigjoint:

1.67 liter pots ... that's 0.369 Imperial Gallons... 0.441 Gallons...

1-2 Gallon pots are fine.. now if you are gonna have them big and bushy then why not give them a container the covers the area they will cover.. makes sense right?? why waste floor space....

And the case of watering.. the bigger the pot the bigger the buffer I think FDD mentioned that.. you can water less..

Pot bound is caused by the plant having to search for water and nutes and tie itself up in the process.. So give it everything it needs when it where it needs it.. and your golden.. Flush and give them a fresh batch of nutes every so often.. and atleast let the a generous runoff when you water...:eyesmoke:

Drr - Looks pretty good for that size pot! Ive seen people have a plant that size in a 5gal pal! WASTE is all that is.

ganjaluvr- You can also F.I.M them when they small to reduce hight, suppercropping is also a great way to keep them short. Look at the genetics of the strain you are working with is something to be aware of. Many people overlook that important thing!

Thanks..

and I agree FIM'ing and super cropping along with topping will give you the plant stature you desire..
I forgot pot size too... muahahahahhahaha bongsmilie

I agree with you on that %100 percent.

Your exactly right.. I've done all KINDA reading on different methods you can use to get more out of your plant(s). Fimming, topping, and cropping your plants during the veg. cycle... def. increases your total amount of yield per plant.

Only thing is.. believe it or not. I personally have never actually tried any of those methods on any of my grows....BUT... I just got my new package of feminized beans [courtesy of SpeedySeedz.com] for my new grow.. so I think I'm going to try one of the methods.. so I can get better yields out of my ladies.

trial and error is the only true way to learn..

try a couple things on a couple different ones and observe the difference..

although i'm still waiting on the results from a topped 3 headed master kush and the 1 head fat girl.. I wanna see which yields more..

Pruning is key in botany...

I forgot to mention the issue with a small pot is the plant being top heavy when its at the end of flowering and I do have issues with the bigger ones.. but to solve that I put a small layer of gravel in the bottom of an empty pot and slide the plant pot inside the second pot.. so now it has a rock base to give it weight when the soil is dry.. ;-):eyesmoke::bigjoint:
