Got a free box of leds. how do i power these?

Wow an electronics question 
I'm an electronics tech so I can tell you that an led want 1.2 to 1.5 volts dc (direct current) your little strips of 6 will most likely work if you give em 5 or 6 volts (that would be 4 regular batteries)
They will most likely not work for growin
