Good Morning/Weather Report Suite

Damn. We can always count on frost in early june.
The traditional planting tables for this area are quite clear that frost is possible until late May. I've witnessed substantial snowfall as late as May 23. That's why this year is so strange.

Wintertime low temperatures have changed in very noticeable ways as well. When I was a kid, the coldest temps in winter would hit -30 every year. Last winter it barely hit -18 and even then only once or twice. That's not a small difference and the landscape and forests are rapidly changing. If it doesn't get cold enough, parasitic pine tree beetles don't die off and they kill vast areas of trees. A few years ago we had record breaking forest fires as a result.

I'm frankly very concerned about how hot it will get this summer.

There's no doubt our weather and climates are changing. When i was a kid here winters were brutally cold and snowy. We would often be snowed in for a week. By the first of November we could expect snow. Now we can often go in t-shirts and shorts til mid-November. Last year I was deer hunting in a t-shirt in the second week of november. Our gardening season usually stared the first of May for early veggies. Now we're lucky to be planting by the first of June. We have, collectively, fucked up this planet so badly our seasons and climates are changing.

I see sunshine this morning. At 0855 it's sunny, 85F with 90% humidity. Forecast high/low of 92/74F with 20% chance of rain today and tonight. 10 day high/low of 92/64F with only 1 day of possible rain. Three nights in the 60's to start the week. The wife's birthday is this week. I would love to slip away hiking and preserve domestic tranquility. Going to be tough to do both.

It's too bad your wife doesn't share your passion for hiking.

Congrats on your anniversary. The number doesn't matter half as much as being with the right person.

80 or so here in NoCo today, sunny early, cloudy later in the afternoon. Great day to walk the dog and then go for a nice walk with mom. She told me her shoulder is healing well from surgery; she goes contra dancing every week or two and last night she danced every number all night long, that's about 4 hours straight with only a few minutes break between sets! Not bad at all for being in her early 70s...

She does 6 miles a day, so that is more than me 90% of days. But she does better on pavement or indoors. There is a rare disease in her family that is a form of MS. Symptoms include dragging your feet when you walk. Her brother had it at 30 and her mom at 20. She will be 65 on Tuesday, and doesn't have that yet, but she does have the leg pain that goes with it. She started CBD oil a couple of weeks ago. It does seem to be helping.

Wow! More power to her! Hope it helps her.

My tomato plants in the gallon pots were wilted today. That is a sign the rain is slacking up.

At 1915 it's sunny, 88F with 48% humidity. Forecast high/low of 92/65F with no chance or rain tonight. Cool nights coming. I had hoped to hike, but the garden, a sick BIL and the wife's birthday have all joined together in a conspiracy to keep me off the trail.

It briefly hit 90 here today. Sunny early, cloudy in the afternoon, clear again by sunset. Lots of kids roaming about, dogs walking their people, guys slowly burning meat over hot coals.

Sunny early, but we did have a passing thunderstorm a while ago. At 1500 it's light rain, 74F with 60% humidity. Forecast high/low of 78/69F with 80% chance of rain today. 10 day high/low of 88/69F with 9 days of possible rain. We dried out in a hurry, so I'll take the rain. As long as the sun will shine when it's not raining.

It was very cloudy when i got out to water all the plants in pots, kiddie pools, trenches and pits this morning. {need to run soakers soon, or I will never get back on the trail} Nice rain here at work yesterday, but nothing at the farm. At 1440 it's partly cloudy, 89F with 56% humidity. Forecast high/low of 90/71F with 20% chance of rain today and 40% tonight. 10 day high/low of 90/70F with 8 days of possible rain. If it turns out like it has been, only one or two of those will have any water in them.

Yesterday afternoon we had a bad thunderstorm. Got an AC unit here at work, and my phone system/answering machine and Modem at home. The Modem is the phone company's, so that will not cost. But the wife is at home with no wifi today. She is waiting on the repair guy to call, then she wants to come into town to use my wifi.

We had bought a new phone system/answering machine a couple of months ago. So all we had to do this morning was put in the batteries and get them plugged in. Summertime is always rough on phones and Modems.

We've had one light thunderstorm already. And I'm hearing more thunder rumble in the distance. At 1220 it's mostly cloudy, 78F with 82% humidity. Forecast high/low of 85/71F with 80% chance of rain today, and 50% tonight. 10 day high/low of 88/71F with 10 days of possible rain. I have a few plants to transplant. I don't guess I will have to stress too much about watering them.
