Basically not using top bin diodes and lying about their efficiency.

So basically any light from alibaba is equal to, or greater than
i think its worth pointing out that i think even gml stopped short of directly accusing hlg of using inferior bin diodes from what they claim they are using.
he said something like when in talks with his new light manufacturer that they offered to build him a "cheat light" using all top of the top bins which he could send for in testing to inflate his figures, his new manufacturer mate implied that everyone does this.
he then went on to talk about how hlg's test figures didnt match his figures when he paid to have a couple of hlg's lights independantly tested, now everyone is taking this as proof the hlg has been up to no good and swapping out diodes.

the discrepancy in the testing figures could as easily explained by light labouratories inconsistent testing results, gml's own light tested around 10% higher than i should have. hlg might have had these lights tested multiple times and chose to publish just the best results... not great yer but it doesnt necessarily mean they are doing the diode switcharoo.
the issue could also be down to samsung, there has been talk before about real world testing numbers not matching up to what samsung state on the data sheets...

as for alibababa lights being better than hlg lights well i think its safe to say if hlg have been "at it", the alibaba crew are defo "at it" ...

I got lost in the acronym shuffle, but you might be talking about a banned brand that sounded like hlg. There were knowingly selling lights that would cause real RFI issues for local equipment such as radio's and data networks. They refused to do any testing regarding this or any type approval, and were just making the cheapest rubbish possible. People were outing them for past businesses they were involved with, and how they were pretending to be people they were not. Eventually it came forth that a warranty claim would be met with the fact they had your address and knew a policeman. At which point, they and all their posts were gone. Though they had in fact paid for adverting here, IC won't side with people just for financial gain (unlike most rival sites)

Stephen and Robin have been long standing riu members, I think it's fair to allow them to defend themselves first.

I know top group/ bin Sammie mid powers where limited before COVID, so shit probably got worse.... osram gobbled almost all the oslon top stuff for their own fixtures . It's no dirty secret that most companies boost specs for the ppf, umol chase. Also different spheres/gonios have different results( varying calibrations).

this smells like a witch hunt imo....

Its deflection: by outing them he hopes people won't notice he shilled for corp and lied to his customers until he stopped making money and left. They all dirty and anyone that buys from either one of them after this is an idiot

Ive been saying this for years: its better to leverage diode count than top bin quality. If you can get diodes that are 5-10% lower efficiency than the top at half the price then your probably better off running cheap diodes at half power. Youll get that extra efficiency but also decrease diode temps and have several knock on benefits.

This sounds like theyve been misstaken re HLG and HGL, especially the acronym mention. Yes, HGL is the worst clusterfuck thats out there. The police stuff has happened several times. Google hydrogrow led scam and check out the rabbit hole. Theres also some stuff on icmag.

TL;DR

Alibaba for the win then?

He's already pulled the content and re uploaded. Didn't take long for GM to see how dumb he looked. Data all lined up with HLG spec sheets and tolerances. And even in the worst case is still above the whole industry. Grasping at straws while he was emotional.
Here comes the clean up crew, better get a bigger shovel homie
