Glycerin Tincture 101

I wanted to do a step by step on making no alcoholic tincture and a report on my first batch. I want to thank Kareem who turned me on to this amazing medicine and who guided me through my first batch.

I used 2 ounces in this 2 quart jar and just covered the weed by a few inches with Glycerin.

Lets walk through the process.

This is the final product and let me tell you this was made with pure buds of OV, JC and JTR and it will get your attention!
Ok first we take some food grade Glycerin

Some nice chopped bud or shake this is from seeded plants of JC,JTR,SQ,and Urkle

Next we want tomake sure the jar is dry and clean

So I fill the jar loosely and add lots of kief on top.

The stuff settles very slowly so keep topping it off.

It will take a few days to soak all this up and I just leave it alone during this first period.

So I turned the jar each day for 60 days working it 3-5 minutes every morning and after 60 days you get this.

I will use a french press next time as the bags were a bit messy but very effective. I don't use this 190 bag making bubble so it came in handy.

Tip make sure to twist the top shut so leaf dosn't drip into the final tincture and you have to strain it twice.

I am sorry about these shots my hands were covered in THC beiring Tincture and I took these with my elbo.

Last step is to heat the open jars at 150 for like 10 minutes to evaporate any moisture I am still working on this last step.

These next words are from My patient and almost made me cry!!

Taking Tincture My Way & Medicinal Effects Experienced These tincs are great.

And yeah i reckon they could be some of the best meds for migranes. As in Migranes, normally once you feel it, your body will be diverting blood away from your stomache and to your head. This is why many pain killers simply do not touch a migrane. The med just doesnt get digested.

But with the tinc, the THC is getting absorbed into the blood stream via the muscus membrain, hence the reason when you keep it in your mouth for longer, and brush your teeth your absorbing THC alot quicker and much more efficiently than if you simply eat it.

With the addition of clove oil you have a perfect tooth ache remedy. Even seams to work on absesis, but only on pain of course, you would still need antibiotics and or lancing.
This morning, I didn't take Tincture

I tried to keep the bong hits low, to see how my body would respond.

Yucky, I'll say. First my heads seems to be just a little slower, (its always hard for me to think), my housework seems harder to finish; I start o.k., but then my energy just goes away. I'm beginning to feel shakey and nauseas. My non-cancerous Fibroid (fatty) tumors are reminding that they are there. All of this is just after about 22 hours without full med treatment. 2 - 3 days, and I would be in my own world again, because of the pain that would return. But tonight I will be taking Tincture, and wake up feeling just fine. MzJill & Subcool told us when we received this treasure, that not everybody feels the Medicinal Effects, of Tincture. Perhaps its not the right method of delivery for them. I do not feel 'High', or 'Druggy', from Tincture. I only feel a relief from Migrane Headache pain, and a decrease in shaking. I do feel a warm, calm feeling, of over-all well being. Thank you again, MzJill & Subcool, for introducing me to Tincture. I love it! Comfy in the Mist! Joymum

wow. cool. i never knew about this kind of extraction. i was intending to make THC oil using an alcohol extraction. my mother has chronic pain from fyberolmalgia(? spelling) and my grandmother sufferes from it as well, and MS and arthritis.

I see that not everyone responds to tinctures. what do you think about this product for helping them?

Thank you for this recipe SubCool i have been desperately searching for a good way to make this tinc ever since i came across it once. You are truly the man I read everything that you post in this forum and I have learned so much from you already. I was wondering where i can find vegi glyc? So far Ive had no luck.

Actually I have been a contributor to HT now for almost 3 years
We have also been awarded several Top 10 Strain of the year awards as well.

I was exceptionally proud of this article though because its not the typical article found in a magazine basically geared to teenage boys and young men.

I would like to say that this article has inspired me to give this recipe a try. Thanks for such detailed instructions! I do have one question. How do you administer this tincture medication? Do you take a tablespoon of it, or do you place it in a spray bottle? Is there a specific kind of spray bottle that works well with the vegetable glycerin?

glycerine tinctures are the bomb. i have a friend who is making a line of sodas called chronic tonic using them. he is also working on syringes that can be taken anywhere and injected into whatever you are ingesting.
glycerine is where it's at as far as edibles go. much more pleasant than most buttered goods i have had.

Got mine going right now.
Filled the jar to the 1 & 1/2 cup line with finely ground medicine.
So far I have about 8 oz of glycerine in there, about how much should it take overall?

Have you still found just heating it at the end at 150 for 10 min is still the best or do you ever heat it during the 60 days?

Any further suggestions on consumption beyond just a drop in the mouth? I am really intrigued by the idea of tinctures!

I wonder if they will help with my stomach problems, back pain and insomnia.

Do you keep it in a dark place or would it be good to keep it in a window to get sunlight and heat that way?

I plan on shaking 3-5 minutes daily as that seems to be what everyone says.

I have heard it is good to drink mixed with grape juice.
I also may try making suckers with them.

ANY other ideas or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

I plan on trying to make my next mix with 190 proof organic clear grape alcohol.

This might be stupid but I've never made a glycerin tincture before. Do you loose any potency through heating it up like a low temp vape or is the temp low enough not to effect it?

as long as Cannabis stays under 220 your ok.

I do not shake my tincture I dont want slugde I simply flip it over each day.

I have heard heat can speed up the process but the best vitamins and supplements are cold pressed.

Dosage is different with each person this product does not get you high but converts to Delta -11 in the liver providing pain relief and help with tremors and MS.

I set mine on top of my Vaporizer (Its a HotBox) for about 5 min on each side.

Hot box doesnt get too hot at all on the outside casing and it was just warm enough to thin out the glycerine a little
to help it mix off the sides when I turned it to mix.

59 days to go hahahaha. I will keep it in a dark closet except when mixing it daily.

Sub what about liquid to material ration? I have about 1 and a half cups of ground material and about 1 and a half cups of glycerine? Did I put in too much
glycerine or should I add some more? I just don't know how thick the mixture should be.

Now that I have had it sit for a day and everything seems to have absorbed the jar level has raised just about 2 or 3 oz above the 12 oz it had when it was just dry ground material.

So do I need to add anything (more glycerine to thin it out more? more ground material to thicken it more?) Mint, honey, anything?????

I am very detailed in my articles and if I dont mention it then people dont need to assume anything else. If I added anything else like honey or mint I would not leave that out of an article.
I really didnt over think it i covered the weed with tinc and thats it soak weed in glyserin seemed clear enough to me when I was taught.

I will add that heat will aid in straining it as its pretty thick stuff at 70 degrees F

So is the 10 minutes at 150F just to thin the final mixture, making it easier to pour into a fresh glass jar for storage?

Considering you use 2oz of quality buds - plus all that kief - in roughly 64oz of liquid, my rough estimate is approximately 0.25mg THC per drop tincture. (This assumes about 15% THC by dry bud weight and 20 drops per ml.) That would make a dose 20-40 drops, which is roughly 1/3 teaspoon. In many other posts I see wide ranges of tincture doses from as little as 1 drop to as much as 2 tablespoons. If my estimates are remotely accurate then 1 drop should do nothing and 2 tablespoons would knock you on your ass for hours. What's a typical dose for your glycerin tincture?

Is it possible to double potency by using half the glycerin, or is the 1oz bud to 32oz glycerin ratio total saturation? If it's completely saturated, can you repeat the whole process using more herb soaking in the "first round" of tincture to potentially double the concentration? I read somewhere that THC is soluble in a 70:30 ethanol:water mix (e.g. 140 proof alcohol) at about 20mg THC per 1.0 ml alcohol. Again with my rough estimates, your tincture is approximately 4mg THC per 1.0 ml glycerin. Surely it could be higher in pure glycerin, no?

Finally, due to its sticky nature it seems likely that administering a glycerin tincture accurately may be somewhat difficult. Plus you could lose a lot of THC stuck to your spoon (although I guess you can lick the spoon! haha). Anyway, can this tincture be diluted with water to make it easier to pour/measure/drop/etc, or will the water cause the THC and glycerin to separate, ruining the tincture?
