Glycerin Tincture 101

Ok as stated in the previous post I bought more glycerine and did 2 more 16oz jars, put 1oz of grounded buds in each... didnt have quite enough glycerine to the top so there is a bit more air in those 2.

I made some quick tincture last night (not the pain killing stuff but to get you high...) with my agent orange sugar leaves, in a 16oz mason jar, everything was eye balled but basically half the jar filled with trim and I barely had enough glycerine to cover the trim. I shook it really well and put it in a double boiler. My stove is gas and I was able to have it at around 210'degrees Fahrenheit (the water) for 6 hours... used the french press to strain.

I have tried it a little bit, half a teaspoon at a time, not sure of what it does (I smoke enough during the day as well...) but it is being tested and I will get back with the feed back on this one.

One thing for sure though is that Agent Orange trim tincture taste so sweet you wouldnt believe it, I mean not just sweet like sugar but sweet like fkin good with a great orange after taste.

I learned recently that glycerine can be mixed with water quite a bit and keep it's preservative properties. I would have to double check the information but I think up to 60% water can be used.

The reason why I am saying this is that if you are not mixing it with water at all (I dont), you dont have to worry about the buds not being fully dried because the glycerine will absorb the moisture from them and keep it's long preservative properties.

I will make sure I get the % right but yeah I believe it's around half and half... if you were to put more water than glycerine, it will not last as long. Technically, if you were to use 100% dry cannabis, you could stretch your glycerine with quite a bit of water making it much cheaper.

Also, It is a lot less extractive than standard alcohol tincture, so that is the main reason why it takes so long for the process to happen and going the full 60 is strongly recommended for top quality tincture. Even though it has worked for me with only 30 days at the moment, but I got nothing to compare with...

This morning I tried the orange heated trim tincture again, I hadnt smoked yet so I could have a better feel for what it does. It certainly does something, if anything it's a great relaxant as is, I took just over half a teaspoon. I am looking forward to see what my testers are thinking of it. I definitely want to make it more potent so that we could use droppers instead of teaspoon. So either heat glycerine with trim, filter and repeat with the same glycerine, or simply use buds.

DECARB UR WEED ------> http://www.marijuanagrowershq.com/decarboxylating-cannabis-turning-thca-into-thc/

1 hour at 240F or 2 hours at 200F to preserve more terps which are also very useful in therapy. You can decarb at 325 F for 5 min as it been done for years by compassionate clubs here on Vancouver Island however some new research suggest that you lose terpenes the higher the temperature.

CompoundBefore Decarb30 Min Decarb60 Min Decarb
THCA 24.5% 2.6% .1%
THC 3.8% 25.4% 25.5%
CBDA .6% .3% .3%
CBD 0% 1% .1%
CBN .4% 1% 1.4%
Moisture 0% 0% 0%
Total Cannabanoids 29.3% 30.3% 27.4%

CompoundBefore Decarb30 Min Decarb60 Min Decarb
THCA 6.5% 2.9% .2%
THC .6% 4.8% 6.9%
CBDA .2% .2% .1%
CBD 0% 0% .1%
CBN 0% 0% 0%
Moisture 3.4% 4.5% 0%
Total Cannabanoids 7.3% 7.9% 7.3%

So for today's batch, I will do the double boiler thing (all the pot in a glass jar with the glycerin, then in the double boiler...), I will keep the water @ 150F for about 6 hours, strain, and enjoy.

If we are going to cook with the pot, doesnt cooking itself decarb the weed? like if I am using heat for my glycerin tincture, does it mean I dont have to decarb prior?

Anyway, I am doing it for now.

I thought I would upload a few pics of what's going on for anybody else like me that need someone to hold their hand!

lol you are welcome! I had the water at 180F steady for 6 hours, then I filtered and I am not feeling like trying it right now lol... I ll have to try in the morning and report on the potency.

For anyone that has never tried tincture, whether you heat it or do the 60days cold extraction, I find the end results to be pretty similar. The 60 days cold extraction will keep a nicer pale colour, when you heat it it gets a bit darker.

A few drops (roughly half a teaspoon) under my tongue for an instant ''relaxing feeling''

1 teaspoon + to get high from digesting it ... kinda like edibles. Either way I keep it under my tongue as long as possible.

Personally I use my tincture for when I can't smoke or a few drops under my tongue to chill... I dont really like the high of edibles and I know for myself that taking more than a tablespoon and I am useless.
