Girlyhits Grow Journal

I am 3 weeks into my first grow and I think they are looking good. They are from seed, 2 different strains from Jordan Seeds - Chemo and Sapphire Star. The Chemo (indica) are in the green pots and the Sapphire Star (25% sativa 75% indica) are in the orange pots.

I went in on the seeds with a friend, so she is growing as well and we are going to coop the fruits of our labor. Pretty sweet to have friend who are potheads too. Odd thing is my Chemos are the strong ones in my group while her Sapphire Stars are going stronger for her... /shrug

The first pic shows my set up - 4 27w 6500k cfl's and 2 42w 2700k cfl's on a vanity strip with a fan blowing between the lights and tops of plants. I have a homemade CO2 bottle in there and temps run between 75F and 86F (86 is when I have the fan off). Humidity runs between 30% and 50%. They are in a mix of supersoil with perlite and a little sand.

The first pictures were taken about 4-5 days ago.

This little one had a bent stem from germination....I was hoping it would straighten out naturally.

The pics below were taken yesterday as you can see I supported the one with the retarded stem.

Comments and questions welcome!!! Tell me what you think.

Thank FDD - notice your loc is listed as N. cal..... I'm no longer there but I was a Humbolt Co. native. I find it odd now that I never tried growning back then when half the people I knew were growing.

I started this wanting the bud the plants produced, but now I love the process - I can't stop looking and playing with my little girls. Weed may not be addictive but I can tell already growing for me is going to be highly addictive :-)

They look pretty good...though I may try and find a better way to keep your lights closer to your plants

My 2 larger plants have thier 5th set of real leaves with good side shoots starting and I'm starting to wonder about pruning and topping. I'de welcome advice and information on the subject. I have the space to let my plants get to bout 16" before I move them to the flower area, not set on letting them get that tall though.

Great job so far. I have to agree the farming is addictive. I thoroughly enjoy caring for and nurturing the plants.

And then there's the big payoff in the end, which I've yet to see, so it's all good Girly.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I did a little pruning based on what I have read here, not too much just a set of fan leaves that were blocking light from my side shoots. I topped 2 of the 4 plants as well.

I'll be taking more pics tonight or tomorrow and will post em up :-)

Ok here's some new pics of the girls. The one with the bent stem is starting to straighten out, which is cool. Just under 4 weeks from start of germination. What do you all feel about early sexing?

This one below got topped recently.

Great pics girly. I like the way you have started them out. Its a really good job. I am interested in how you made a homeamde CO2 bottle thingy.
Could you elaborate a tad perhaps? :blsmoke::roll::peace:
Mine are about 1 week or so ahead of yours. Mine are about a month now.

It's really simple to make out of items you probably have in your house already. I've heard this method is good for smaller closed area but you don't have the same control over the levels of course.
Take a plastic bottle with a screw on cap and poke a hole in the cap with a hot knife. This is a yeast/sugar/water mixture and I used 1 packet of yeast (.25 oz) with approx. 1/4 cup sugar and 2 cups warm water.
I am using a 20 oz. bottle so adjust the ratio of ingrediants for your bottle size but don't fill the bottle fully. You'll be shaking it to release the CO2 and the yeast will foam up as well so you want to leave some empty space for that.
Close up the cap on the bottle and with your finger over the hole in the cap shake up the bottle and place near your plants. I don't know really how often your supposed to shake it to get the best results I just give it a little shake a couple times a day. Refill about weekly - you'll be able to tell as well when there is less pressure created when you shake it.

Hope that helps :-)

So I topped the rest of the plants tonight and pruned off all but the top set of main cola fan leaves. I also gave them there first dose of nutes. What I'm noticing now though is the fan leaves that are left are curling down at the tips. I couldn't tell if I didn't notice it before because there were more leaves or if it was just since the pruning. So I checked the last pics and I can see it on the plant in the green pot in front on the last pic.

I read that could be nutes but I just feed..... so I'll wait and see if they perk up in the morning before I get to concerned.

That sounds very interesting girly. I have read a lot lately about the positive benefits of CO2 but never really done anything except talk to them a lot. I know that helps on more levels than one.
I will take a look at this when it is a decent time in the morning.
I love creative minds. :)
Very interesting info girly. I'll have to check in often to see what else you are up to.:peace:
