GHS Kalashnikova Waterfarm

Hello my friends and welcome!

Another waterfarm grow on the go. The first journal I read was Dayzts tangerine dream grow and I was hooked straight away. I've also read scottys, mr2shim, kriznaf and tdoodas journals which have helped alot and I just want to say thanks alot people!

This is my first time growing so i've kinda chucked myself into the deep end starting out w/ hydro. I've had a friend grow before (he grew applejack in soil) and it turned out good.

I've decided to grow GHS Kalashnikova [AK-47 x White Widow]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuD3qELU3ak

When the plant is older I plan to LST and then Scrog.

So here is a list of my setup:
Secret Jardin DR120 (120cm x 120cm x 200cm) tent
Acoutsic ducting
600w Dual HPS
6" Ruck (470m3/hour) & CF
SMS twin fan controller
125w CFL (6400k blue)
4gallon waterfarm (drilled extra 6.5mm holes at the bottom)
Tetratec 300ltr per hour dual air pump
6" Hailea airstone
EC tester
PH tester
Hydroponics liquid PH up & down
946ml GH Floranova Bloom
80ltr tote box to hold water
10ltr bucket

So over the past few weeks of setting things up and getting the rest of the set up, I have been rinsing the hydroton in the waterfarm. Been getting alot of crap still from it untill someone said a great idea and rinse the pebbles under the shower for 30mins. Done this twice and it's took alot of crap from it but not sure if all.

About a week ago I put 2/5 seeds into a shotglass and put the at the back of the fridge (read somewhere that this helps germ). On the 11/11/11 I took my seeds out of the fridge and let the get used to room temp before I germ them.

For germination I got a tupperware box and put some paper towel down. Put 2 seeds in then another bit of paper towel on top the put some PH'd water to 6.2 on the seeds.
I then put the tupperware box into another box and sat it ontop of the boiler. I had my thermometer in the box and the min/max temps would be 20/27. Put them in a dark place and let them do their thing.

Just before 48 hours both seeds have cracked but one has a longer root. Probs 1/4". So today 13/11/11 i've carefully placed the best seed into the waterfarm. I've made a crevice in the peddles to try and keep the water running down to the seed but i'm also going to hand water the seed (from the tube) with a shotglass to make sure it keeps moist.
I've also got my CFL on now. Going to keep it on 24hours for the next few days and hope this baby starts to grow some deep roots.

I'm going to add some pics soon. My batteries has just died on me so I need to get some real soon.

Anyways, thanks again for all the help from people. Lets see how this turns out ^_____^

Subbed! Got my Kalashnikova too on a Waterfarm on end of week 2 of flower. All I can say is make room man, make lot's of room, when she goes into flowering she grew double her size the first week alone. **pulls up a chair** Your gonna love this strain friend.

Ok so here are some pics of the set up and seed.

So my seed has had a slow start. When it cracked and a the root was showing a bit it was still in its shell so couldn't move the root. Since the root has grown a little bit i've now got the root face down into the hydroton now. Hope she picks up now but guess i've gotta play the waiting game now.

Hey mate. How long did you veg your Kalash for? I was only going to plan to veg for 4weeks. No more than 5.
Any pics of your Kalash mate?

Sub'd mate. I've also started my waterfarm-like grow a couple of weeks ago, let's see how things go.

PS. I was also inspired by Dayzt's TD grow, amazing stuff

I just vegged her for 30 days exactly. I had to because of my space (2.5 x 1.5 x 6 ft). The last day of veg she was barely 10 inches tall with about 10 nodes already; after the first week of flowering she was 19 inches tall and by the end of the second she was 26 inches tall, so in the first 2 weeks of flowering she stretched about x 2.5 so keep that in mind friend. Veg according to your space with this strain and keep stress to a minimum. Now she is in day 2 of week 3 and she seems to have slowed vertical growth considerably. I also started her with Kool Bloom along with the one part Nova Bloom nutrients in the beginning of week 3. Her buds are starting to develop and swelling up and she's beginning to really smell now; I was able to count around 20 tops (only counting top canopy), most of the shoots that didn't make it to the top were trimmed off, and this is with no LST(no mayor LST just tucking fan leaves here and there) no SCROG no topping or fimming, just her genetics, the Waterfarm and GH nutrients. One hell of a strain friend so get ready for some fun with this grow. No pics on RIU yet, hopefully soon I'll be able to post some up. What I did notice she likes very much is alot of air in the reservoir (I have a 60 gallon Tetra pump along with the stock WF pump connected to the drip ring and a double air stone tube that swirls in the center of the reservoir) and the day temps to be a bit hotter than most strains, at 83 I noticed the best growth (at veg). Anyway hope it helps friend. Keep us posted!.

DSCN1478.jpgDSCN1476.jpgDSCN1477.jpgI think the kalash are going to give me trouble, unless they stretch some, what do you guys think

Ladyburn 1974 kalashnikov kalashnikov #2 should I put them back under veg and let them stretch or do you think they will be fine, they been
under 12/12 for a week.

Are you keeping the ladyburn under 12/12? Do you have a seperate room for veg?

Like AWnox said at the bottom on page 1 his kalash has shot up quick. I'm not too sure since i'm still new to this but i'd just keep them in 12/12 and let them do their thing?
Maybe someone whos got more experience can help you out.

Nothing new atm. The seed is still faced down with its shell still on.
Should I pick it up to see if the root has gotten any longer or will this damage the plant?

Yeah I got a seperate room for veg but it only has a t5's in it. I topped the one kalash, and I wish I didn't do it now. It's got a lot of nodes but there all bunched together, the one I didn't top is actually looking like it's going to stretch a lot. In the last two days it's grown a couple inches.

So you've been in flowering now for 2 weeks and she still has yet to stretch? Mine stretched a lot but they were under a 250W HPS at about 10 - 12 inches and she was vegged for 30 days. This strain doesn't like you to force her into anything, using T5 maybe you should have vegged for a bit longer and let her mature more. Mine had it's nodes also really bunched up, about an inch or less between each node; once she started to stretch though that increased x 2 or more at some locations. I vegged with a 250W MH for 30 days and 10 nodes at 10 inches tall then flowered with 250W HPS and in 2 weeks she stretched about 2.5 X her size. Also the size of your container controls the size of your plant. The Waterfarm holds approx 4 gallons (in the reservoir) so if your container is smaller expect a smaller shorter plant.

DON'T TOUCH IT!! I did and it started to slide down into the hydroton and after 15 mins of me sweating and trying to find it because it had dropped I got it to a safe place and just let her do her thing. The more you move it around now the longer she will take to settle into place and start rooting. Let her be for now brother.

I got them in 5 gal dwc, they got put under 400w hps about 8 days ago also put on 12/12 same day. They have stretched but the nodes are so close and it's so bushy that it's like a ball of leaves. I was going to veg them longer but I wanted to get more going in my veg area.

No problem i'm here for the long run :)

That's the Kalashnikova for you, a true bush. She'll stretch considerably more you just wait and see, then she'll look like a mini tree with a thick trunk. Have you considered LST, I l know it's nearly impossible with her node spacing and such but maybe a SCROG is in order? I'll try that next time , this time I just wanted to let her do her thing and see what she got..
