 if only it was that simple. First of all, my dear wife is tiny, but scrappy, she might get the upper hand, because at some point I would start to laugh, and she wouldn't miss that opportunity to head lock me.

No, in the end, I must do what I can to make her as happy as she has made me. Pick your battles gentlemen, my long term assignment is to convince Mrs. Cracker to retire in the North.... north anywhere. She loves the tropics, I prefer the winter and the change of seasons. I'm playing the long game....

Time is running out though.... I want to make a move after 2010, maybe 2012.

Thats a little much dude, try about 40,000 for around 40 acres with trailer home, less than 5,000 for complete well(shallow well) Wind and solar about 20,000(lots of wattage:mrgreen:) I still need to build the root celler though. You can always hunt for food too. It's totally doable dude! Plus NOBODY F's with ya!

where are you finding land for 1k per acre?

The Turbine I have been checking out runs from $15 to $16 Grand. It puts out 400 KW per month at an average of 12 miles per hour wind. The "average" household uses 917 KW per month. Not counting grow lights, I don't use much at all. With propane powered freezers, fridges, oven/stoves, AC, etc, one turbine would do 80 to 100% of my needs. 4 lbs should pay for one, one good female. I like the fact that the power Co. don't know exactly how much power that I use, and ask any Roofer, the 'breaze blowing is a lot more 80 to 100' high. 12 MPH isn't shit. Around here, we are over-run with Feral Hogs. The Ranchers will trap & bring dozen to you/me. The meat taste a LOT better than that store bouight shit. It matches the taste of Elk & Deer. 400 lbs per year per person is good enough with about 4 deers, plus duck & chicken meat. With good soil, any vegetable can be grown... I want to grow veggies to supply the Chinese Buffets/Markets. Boc Choy, all that shit. For interested people, see www.Kitazawa Seed Co. Growing shit is fun. Growing wierd shit should be more interesting. One Guy In Cal. rasise 60,000 lbs. of fruits & veggies in a one acre plot. With the aid of red wiggler worms, molasses, etc., you can't stop the shit from growing, and the nutrient value will be 70% more than the store boght shit. Via the Soldier Fly, the Fish, Ducks, Geese, Chickens, quail, etc. can be self-feeding. They sell a thing called the Bio-Dome, or make your own. More info, see - Organic Matters.com. Bruce Duely is the Dude to check out.

If anyone is researching solar components, panels etc. I've found SUN ELECTRONICS out of Miami Florida to be very competitive price wise.

Yes. Via DIY web site, you can build your own. Mother Earth News is a wonderful site. One Guys deal was he built his work shop, and on the south wall, he used 2 X 6 studs, done the reguar interior siging, but instead of insulation, He used 30 lb black felt, then used plexie glass for exterior. He cut a slot on the bottom outside, & a slot at the top of the insde. The morning sun abosorbs on the felt/tar paper, heats & rises, pouring out into the building. This heated his building at 40 degress, outside, his shop was 65 to 70 degrees. Keep in mind that the temp is taken in the shade. 40 outside, can easily be 90 in full, winter sun.

I bought 50 acres of land on Prince Edward Island, Canada a few years back and that was my plan. I wanted to build a big sturdy deck on concrete pilings and in the summer drive up the coast with my Yurt. Pitch it up and spend the summer eating Lobster and Mussels, then take it down at the end of the season.

The wife did NOT like the idea.

Did you sell the wife

one question....when u talk about living off the land, what are u gna do when u get cavities and need a dentist, or when u develop cancer and need a doctor.....dont act like society is this big mess of fucked up people, it can be, but come on.....there are lots of benefits...i mean id like to get away sometime in my life but not live like a damn caveman, id want to be able to flush a toilet and turn on a stove when i want...
