fungus gnats best way

Not working as well as i thought. Does not kill eggs as they have returned. Will continue to dry the plants, was watering every third day, will go to five days and see if it helps. peace

I just got the Gognats liquid yesterday and used it in my res. The instructions say to use one oz to 10 gal. I'm using this in conjunction with Dutch Master's Zone liquid. I hope this does the trick. I'm tired of those little pests!!

I do not think they effect the health of the plant too much, just a real pain in the rear. I am also using ortho fruit vegetable spray to spray them when they come out of soil while i am watering. Have not seen any reason to spray the plant itself as it looks fine. peace

the larvae feed on roots it can be bad for the plant

'Take Down' to kill the existing gnats. Works everytime. To make sure they won't come back (Take Down will help with this though), you should always let your plants soil get pretty dry. Gnat larvae can't survive it. The only reason you will see they continuing to come back is if your soil is ALWAYS wet.

I don't know what these are called but they are a yellow bar about 6 inches long and 2 inches wide and maybe 3/4 inch thick. They have some kind of chemical that is time released and they will kill all the bugs good and bad in the grow room. But they do work on gnats to that nest in the soil/soilless pots of the plants. Kills'em all! They really do work.

hot shot no pest strips is what you are talking about. they work from what i have heard but the way they do work is by releasing a chemical in vapor form that kills the bugs but i am in wk 4 of flower and the chemical used is toxic and i don't want that shit on my buds. last night i put 1/4" of small perlite on the top of my soil,and taped the drain holes shut with duck tape(as many gnats were coming in and out of them) and will remove those b4 next water. i also have lots of sticky strips on the floor and sitting on top of perlite on top of pots.

I had this problem last grow and i now have it again in the Veg. stage on this grow. (gnats) I picked up some diamatatious earth from a local hardware store. I bought a 20 # box for like 12 bucks. rather cheap and very effective. It was in the pool supplies area. I do believe this material is used in some sort of pool filters. I watered and then spread about a good inch, inch and a half on top of the soil. doesnt matter if it gets on the stem. Here is some advise though, when handleing it move slow. It is a fine material that will become airborne and when you breath it it can make you cough or even have lung issues. Kind of like air born fiber glass. They recomend useing a mask but if you just move slow your good. then give it a few days to water and your good. after watering you can add a little bit more if any soil shows. Worked fairly well, "yellow" bug strips also work well for the adults as yellow attracts the insects.

I have heard that another effective method to stop fungus gnats is to put a slice of a potato on the top of your soil. The larvea will move to the potato slice to feed and then you throw away the potato slice when you see larvae on it. Disrupting the breeding cycle of these bastards is the key to stopping an infestation. Fungus gnats won't cause severe damage to your plants, but they will annoy the hell out of a grower. Good luck.

I had those at the start of my current grow. Used the over the counter peroxide, 10% of my watering container & that did the trick. I checked for larvae using the potatoes on the soil overnight in the dark period. Got fly strips for the fliers, they didnt do shit.

i have covered the top of soil with 1/4 to 1/2 inch of perlite and taped the drain hole closed with duct tape. i haunt seen anymore fliers but i know there has got to be some larvae in the soil so im going to introduce BTi to the soil via mosquito dunks.

I use potato slices to gather,get rid of those,then fill the top of the pots with sand.Never had any probs after doing that.

might try that but i think the perlite and duct tape has taken care of it.
