Fully automated grow box

What do you think about this grow box from Home Grown Hydroponics. New Cultivator Pro Fully Automated SMART Hydroponics Grow Box w/ Auto pH Balancing & Nutrient Top Off; Dual Digital Lighting System for 800w of HPS/MH Lighting & Fan Speed Controls for 9 Fans w/ Low Water Alarm, Integrated TDS/pH/Temperture Meters w/

It looks like a monster and definitely well ventilated with plenty of HPS lighting. I was looking into the Bloombox before this showed up. Anyone familiar with this set up?

Please...no "build your own" comments or I would but I would apreciate any comparisons to the Bloombox. They are about he same price.

I have to wonder about the reliability of the sensors though and if all the automation becomes maintenance in itself.

I like the idea of fighting the complications of hydro with technology. I cant imagine that the nutrient monitoring system (which im sure accounts for most of the expense) would be so problematic that someone would want to go back to growing without it. Has anyone used nutrient automation technology? It sounds like a great way not to lose a crop.

Way overpriced! Fuck did you scroll to the bottom and see how much the "add ons" are? I chose them all except the rush build and it came to $6900.... for modified file cabinet that doesn't look big enough to flower more then 1 maybe 2 plants at a time???

Waste of money if you ask me.... lol... but they do give you "free" nutes with purchase ... LMAO!!!!

I'm with sublimed..... build your own you lazy stoner

The automation package blows away the bloombox, although people who have the bloombox love it.

ROFL... well I LOVE my grow room which requires very little maintenance and I spent about $1000 - $1500 for lights, a/c, nutes, res, medium, seeds, meter, etc. etc. etc.

BTW... if you get the box with a/c (which will be ABSOLUTELY necessary in a cabinet that size) then there is going to be condensation that you will have to manually empty... ergo... NOT fully automated ;)

Face it... it's a waste of money... unless you have money to burn :)

woo she sure did piss on your cornflakes :P

Well that wasn't my intent. I just wanted to impress upon someone who may have saved for a very long time to get a cabinet they view as "the bomb" .... only to learn it's not worth the money.

We all learn as we go.... even the more experienced growers learn every day. I just don't want someone to rush in and waste money on things they don't need. On the other hand... if the OP has money to burn then I say buy 1 veg and 3 or 4 flower cabs... because that's how many will be needed to get a decent yield in cabinets that size.

totally.

we need to realize, if we get our hands dirty we can get some crazy good results, and we get the satisfaction of knowing it took that much more effort.

I hear you Florida girl...the box would be just for personal use. I'm just a none technical person who has limited grow experience/time and appreciates automation and stealth (although this particular box doesn't appear to be too stealthy) .

Sorry floridagirl you cant dismiss these boxes out of hand. I know apartment growers who grow significant amounts of weed with BC northern lights boxes. They are very convinent and stealthy, great for a spare sealed off bedroom in an apartment. The nutrient automation is also cool, though I think in the BC boxes its just a meter and dosnt add nutes, but I dont know it might be the same as above.

The BC box is also prone to the "waste of money, no way it works, build it yourself cheaper better" but my bros wouldn't trade theirs for anything, they arent interested in growing pretty 5ft tall trees with massive colas, but you can flower surprisingly large LSTd plants in those boxes.

I rarely see boxes that include the same amount of technology in one of these. A plywood box with a DWC in it is not the same.

Understood. Now consider this..... If you are growing for personal use... then you could EASILY surpass the grow of these cabinets with a simple closet grow. Hempy method is a passive hydro system ... it's a NO BRAINER.... and requires very little maintenance or money (after initial purchase of lights, seeds, buckets, nutes, meter and misc supplies). Check out this thread https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/59705-hempy-collective.html you don't have to read the whole thing... just read the first 5 pages and you should have enough info.

As to closet light leaks... well I posted a thread about what I did for my seedling / veg closet in this thread: https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/90803-tip-stopping-light-leaks-closet.html
That closet is on 18/6 light cycle and the closet is in a bedroom with flowering going on.

Again... I'm not trying to talk you out of the cabinet.... just trying to show you different options that could save you thousands and result in better yields. Consider your options before you drop money on one of those "automated" cabinets... that's all I'm sayin :D

Define SIGNIFICANT? Those cabinets are fucking SMALL! I don't care if you do LST or SOG... the size it what it is and you can get equal or better from a simple closet.

They are very convinent and stealthy, great for a spare sealed off bedroom in an apartment. The nutrient automation is also cool, though I think in the BC boxes its just a meter and dosnt add nutes, but I dont know it might be the same as above.
ROFL... stealth in an apt? Why because of that fort knox lock they have on it? Shit I could pick that with a bobby pin! If an apt manager came in and saw that cabinet there would be NO DOUBT what it is without opening it. It would do NOTHING to stop a nosey landlord from calling 50. Stealth it is NOT!

As to the nute delivery... again... is it REALLY automated? Does it also measure the runoff for you to know what your plants are eating when? Does it empty the A/C condensation for you? AUTOMATED MY ASS!

The BC box is also prone to the "waste of money, no way it works, build it yourself cheaper better" but my bros wouldn't trade theirs for anything, they arent interested in growing pretty 5ft tall trees with massive colas, but you can flower surprisingly large LSTd plants in those boxes.
Of course it's prone to the "waste of money" label... because it IS! Sure it works... so does throwing a few seeds in a pot and sticking them under any HPS light (at like an 1/8 of the price). It's not rocket science!

Irarely see boxes that include the same amount of technology in one of these. A plywood box with a DWC in it is not the same.
OK... you sound like a salesman for the cabinet! I'd put up good money on a better yield with a plywood box with a hempy passive system over that "automated" cabinet any day of the week...and twice on Sunday ;)

You misunderstand,

The lock has nothing to do with it, the odor control and complete internalization of odor control, ballasts, and nutrient system have way more to do with security then a lock, I feel that in your passion to prove DIY superiority your missing some key selling points.

I dont use one of these personally because I have the room, but I defenitly would consider one in an apt if the situation called for it.

Here is a thread with info and some people using it. Youll find both good and bad reviews. The point is there is def a use for this if your situation warrants it.

Another thing I dont get with the expense issue is that these things grow weed, 1oz, 1lb whatever you get with weed hovering northwards of 400 OZ it dosnt take a lot to earn back your investment.

Also I think that seriously handicapped medicinal marijuana patients that might not have the physical ability to DIY or outfit a closet like an able bodied grower would. We cant forget this is the excuse were using to legalize this shit.

The automated nutrient handling is also useful for the above reasons.

You seem really convinced that these things have AC compressors or something that you have to empty when this isnt the case, why do you think that? It would seem to me the smart way to cool these units is with a window unit in the same room.

This is a link from a semi recent discussion maybe, only for the sake of argument, some people like em, some people dont, but they have had success.
