As someone who grew up in a working-class neighborhood - on a hillside above a steel mill - and who did a good bit of manual and gray-collar work on the way to earning a college degree, I am mighty sick and tired of the current working-class resentment toward liberal people who are on their side and liberal policies designed to favor them. Neither of my parents had a high school diploma. They did, however, have two things I see lacking among many of their present-day peers. The sense to vote in their own best interests. And an attitude of more than tolerance - an attitude of genuine human interest, and in many cases, admiration - toward people different from them. I didn't learn my liberal values from college professors or the New York Times. I learned them in a good working-class home. And I'm appalled and saddened by the delusional thinking I see today. They don't want New York elites telling them how to live and what to do? What do they think they're getting at a Trump rally?
So close. You're almost there. What will Democrats get you? They're corporate shills just as much as Republicans. The only difference is they lie to you about that.
