Found something in my back yard, is it pot?

I found a few little plants in the garden in my back yard that look like they may be pot. I didn't put any seeds there, but my dad may have, as he smokes (and has a plant of his own inside)

Unfortunately my camera doesn't seem to be working at the moment, so the best I could do is take a picture with my cell phone. There's two plants. The one pictured is the better looking of the two, but I think it may be male (the brown cluster in the middle looks like it could be some early pollen sacs) The other plant isn't in quite as good shape, but doesn't have balls (and I think I see pistils), so I've adopted that one and have it under a light now.
Anyway, on to the pictures:

Let this be a lesson to all new growers. You don't have to do anything fancy or get all technical to grow MJ. Just stick it in the ground, water once in a while, feed it even less frequently, and leave it the hell alone. Good luck w/ your plants bro. Stand back and let them do their thing. Look at my Avatar. That's what I got when I put a single seed in the ground once, a long time ago.

I realize nature can take care of a plant pretty well, and I was pretty sure that it was pot, but I just didn't want to get my hopes up and jump to a false conclusion. In addition to adopting that today, a seed i planted in a pot sprouted, so I got 2 chances now

that's what i did, but sadly 2 weeks after they went outside and were 2-3 inches tall, we had a series of thunderstorms and only one made it, that ended up to be male

Okay, so the one I adopted, the leaves of one branch only are dry and drooping. I can't take a semidecent picture with my cell phone, so hopefully I can get my camera working soon.
It could have happened for one of 2 reasons:
1) I injured a root during transplant, and it's slowly dying
or 2) I had the light too close to it earlier (the branch damaged is the highest one, so this makes sense)

If 2, does the branch have a chance at recovery or should I snip it?
