Forced hermie: end of grow

I was wondering if there is anyone with experience in forcing a plant to hermie to produce seeds? I have read a bit about allowing a plant to go a few weeks beyond in order to produce fem seeds. My thoughts were that I eould cultivate 75% of the flowers, then allow the remaining lower branches to continue to flower for another 3 weeks or so in the hopes that it herms and produces seed.

If this does in fact work, how long after the plant self-pollinates do the seeds take to mature?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. This was my last seed of a great strain that I got 5 years ago. I wasnt worried about cloning, or preserving her genetics at the time, but am now seriously regretting it. I know there is always the option of rejuvenation, but i would much rather try and produce seeds from her.

Well there are two types of hermies, born hermie and stressed hermie, if you stress a plant into herming it will cause the plant to produce VERY few usable seeds, so your only real hope if you want seeds is that the plant was born with hermaphroditic genetics and will herm on its own.

I know from experience that she has very stable genetics, so "born hermie" is not a possibility. I read in an article and also in one of Ed Rosenthals books that a way to produce feminized seeds is to allow the plant to go well beyond finished and that she will force (stress) male flowerz to create fem seeds. I was hoping that someone may have some insight on this.

I appreciate the reply, thank you.

Clone it, turn the clone into a shemale with colloidal silver then pollinate the mother.
Don't listen to people that talk about inbreeding, they do not know what they are talking about.

shes 4-5 weeks into flower, and VERY heavily flowered! I have taken clones this far along before (with success) but there are absolutely NO lower branch without buds almost the size of golf balls! (now u can see y i am regretting not preserving her!). I have only rejuvenated once, and I reflowered. Do u think this could be an option? Re-veg her when finished, take clones, and try spraying one with colloidal silver?

On a side note, is colloidal silver safe to be around? Can the plant that was sprayed be smoked? I would put the clone that I spray in a seperate grow room, would CFLs work well enough for seed production even though the Mother was grown under HID?

I appreciate your wisdom!!!

if you just leave a plant in flower, you're likely to just get over ripe buds
some plants will throw some roosters, many others won't, to be sure you'd need to use CS like previously mentioned

Not true at all. The seoncd part. A forced hermie can produce hundreds or thousands fo seeds depending on how many male flowers you get it to produce. They will all be females as well because they dont have the Y male chromosome so the seeds will be feminized and have that plants genes. its a smart way to save a ton of money on seeds that are only sold as fems

I am new here but have some experience with reveg. leave some on the bottom at harvest or try and take some clones now and root them the best, fastest way you know how , revert back to 18 hrs or more of light and take away some phosporus. It takes several weeks but you should be able to save her.
best of luck

you have a bunch of options. You could harvest all but one bud and let that produce male flowers by letting it go much longer. Then you preserve the pollen. Rodelization

Colloidal silver is very safe. If you are using 50 ppm colloidal silver, in one sitting you could safely drink way more than the amount you would use to spray a plant.

You can smoke parts that are not sprayed. Just keep the spray off the branches you want to smoke.

I never smoke what I spray as I like to turn the whole plant.
The impregnated plants are fine to smoke.

Ok, thank u for the feedback. Who is a reputable seller of colloida silver? Or does it not really matter (it is what it is)? If i were to order it now, being this far along, is it to late to produce usable seeds?

It is way too late once you have started flowering.
I used Tiresias Mist. It was $20 for a small bottle. You can get colloidal silver on ebay/amazon for much cheaper. I would look for 50 ppm minimum. You can dilute 500 ppm with distilled water.

you can make your own for cheap, but the results vary.

Ok ty, u have been a help. $$$ is not the issue if it works, I have dropped over $500 in beans this year already so this would be saving me money! Im going to re-veg her after harvest. Pull a bunch of clones, let her bush out real good while the clones develope, then use the spray on one of the clones (in a smaller seperate CFL cab), collect the pollen, then brush it on the mother.... Is this what YOU would do?

I only kept track of an auto seed crop here:
https://www.rollitup.org/auto-flowering-strains/548016-auto-feminized-seed-crop.html

It really depends on what you want to accomplish and the space(s) you have.

Seed crop:

Take a clone or an established female plant. It does not have to be big.
Begin spraying that plant 1-2 times a day. Just a nice mist over the whole plant.
Spray the plant for 7 days. (It should be in veg mode getting at least 17 hours of light a day indoors.)

Put the sprayed plant in to flower (12/12). Keep spraying it 1-2 times a day for 7 more days.
Then add any plant you want to be pollinated/seeded to the flower room with the sprayed plant.
Let nature take its course.

You will want to let the seeded buds go as long as possible so the seeds get big and fat. Let the buds go until the seeds are falling out of the buds. The remaining weed will not be that good, hash material at best, but you will have shit tons of feminized seeds.

Make sure to remove the sprayed plant about 5 weeks before you plan on cutting the plants. Make sure to learn how to properly freeze pollen. If you have viable pollen stored, you can pollinate one bud per grow and start building a feminized seed bank. Properly collected pollen can last more than 10 years.

Tiresias Mist cost me $20 on ebay shipped. I have gone through 2.5 bottles and it has worked like a charm for me.
There are cheaper alternatives I have heard worked well, but $20 is 1.5 feminized seeds...
With one bottle of Tiresias Mist I have made thousands of feminized seeds.

Hey buddy, I cant begin to thank you enough! Im gonna bookmark this thread to come back to. I may have to PM you in a month or so if I have anymore questions (if you dont mind).

I really hope I can get this girl to successfully re-veg. I REALLY would love to make fem seeds with her! I have 4 other strains going now, all the same age, and she is just WAY out-performing anything else I have going. At 4 weeks, she has is a single stalk cola, and her girth is that of a pop can!

I have plenty of space to "experiment" with, although I will just build another scaled down flower cab, and pick up either a 90 watt LED or a 125 watt CFL for my seed production cab. Even if I drop $250 to pull this off, like u said, thats the price of maybe 20 fem seeds plus the risk of delivery.

Again, thank you for spending the time to reply to my thread. It was much appreciated!
