I'm in the second week of flushing a couple of mature white widow plants and so i thought i would review the process by trawling the interweb to make sure i'm doing it right.......i always thought if i'm growing in soil with organic nutes that just giving water for 2 weeks is enough but there's so much conflicting info.
some say drown your plants every 4 days for 2 weeks, i been dabbling with growing on and off for 20 years but have taken it more seriously this last 2 years with reasonable results (plus a few cock ups) and this isssue seems quite controversial, i always feed at half the premium rate and in general i get positive feedback from fellow growers with a few telling me my smoke is the fruitiest smoothest clean bud they've smoked.
i normally snap off a small leaf and taste the juice if its bitter i continue with the plain water until it has no taste then i cut before the lights come on, hang my bud for 7 days and then cure for 2 weeks before anyone (even me) gets to try it.
Am i doing it right ?

idk but do farmers that grow fruits organically ever flush? if using synthetics i would flush if i believe i have over fed but if your growing organic i would just keep watering with ewc's and molasses. last 2 weeks of growth are critical imho.
anyways if your friends are satisfied with your results why start this thread? just keep doing what works for you or try it on one of the plants and see if there are any notable differences.

I started the thread because these forums are the only source of info from actual experienced growers and it wouldn't be the first time that popular consensus is wrong in the general growing community.
i'm trying to establish a simply correct method without all the myth if that makes sense...i'm a virgo and these things get under my skin lol

plain water in soil is fine
pouring a ton of water through the soil, runoff is a terrible idea

Giving plain water is not really flushing
many people water in soil with only plain water

fruity/tasty smoke has very little to do with watering with plain water and much more to do with when it was picked, how it was dried and cured.

The only "right way" to do it is the way that works for you and that you're most comfortable with. Try out other methods if you're dissatisfied with your end product until you find what you're looking for. Every grower on this site is growing the best herb and they're doing it the right way. Funny thing is that they're all also doing it differently.

PLEASE STOP FLUSHING YOUR PLANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the stupidest misinformation that is around.
All your doing when flushing is depriving your plants of its last weeks of nutrients that it needs to create trics and bud mass.
Only thing flushing will do is remove the nutes from the rootzone.

Stop flushing. You ever see a farmer go out into his feind at the end of the season and flush his corn?
No because the nutrients are converted into simple sugars, trics and bud mass.
You do not taste nutrients.
If you have shit weed its because of improper growing conditions as well as improper drying and curing.
I run hydro, never flush and have smooth tasting buds.

This flushing BS is just absurd.

Do some research on botany.
Flushing is even worse in soil as it takes soil longer to break down the nutes.
Your lowing the quality and yield.
So much misinformation that people have made up.
Flushing does not help it actuialy makes it worse.
Dont flush keep your nute regiment

Flushing is complete bullocks.
I have a degree in Organic Chem.
I may not have one in Botany but flushing only deprives the plant of nutes that it needs.
Not speculation known fact.

This flushing business is just absurd.

Stop flushing.

The taste is just as good if you cure properly.
Nutrient taste is only if folier fed and when folier fed wash your bud.
Never flush

not in hydro... try not flushing... :wall:

it is a risk not to flush if you are using any synthetic nutrient salts!

I flush with nutes. I thought I was supposed to go about the feeding process normally but add a little more to create more runoff. That way any nutes that were turned to salts get pushed but my plant still gets nutes

I have had 3 successful grows out of 4 and my 5th is having problems.
So don't know howmgreat my advice is

MAIN FACT: High salt concentrations in media can cause the shrinkage and death of plant cells due to the excess draw of water through cell walls, and eventually lead to the irreversible wilting of plant leaves and stems. Flushing helps to remove excess nutrient salts and safely leach my plants from the grow media.

Well here's my opinion. Besides forums and YouTube videos, the first place I went is to Barnes & Noble to read about growing from experts with nearly 20 years of experience. Many experts flush their crops. Not everyone uses organic nutrients, some use chemically enhanced formulas. That chemical flavor can be tasted in the buds of a plant that has not been flushed.

Despite the fact that I'm using organic nutrients I am still going to flush my plants 2 weeks prior to harvest like many professionals do. Flushing at the end of a crop’s growth cycle helps to trigger the last reproductive stage of the plant forcing it to process and get rid of internally stored nutrients.

But to each, his own.

You can make or purchase a compost tea to mix into your soil for reuse.
GOODLUCK GROWING!!
