1. I'm not doing it for money at all, I have plenty of that from working my ass off. I'm doing it for personal use, and so that my close friends don't spend there money.
Well, that is all good, are your friends going to help? Any plumbers, electricians, HVAC folks among them or will you be doing all of this yourself??
2. I am not sure how many plants I will need. I want to get around 2 to 3oz's a month, about how many plants will i need for that?
If you were getting 1/2 oz per plant, a good working number, you would need to harvest 6 plants every month. You could use two small hydro units on one side, around 7' of your space leaving the remaining three feet for your clones and mothers, 4 week rotation.
I want to grow with a hydro system, I am not sure which one is the best for using in a big 10x5ft walk in closet, i have already prepared the space, i completely disinfected the space, painted the walls white, and plastic flooring.
The easiest hydro system to work with is flood and drain, aero beats it for yield, is more fiddly, several threads that will give you the advice on how to use them, more of an investment in meters is neccessary. ATTA BOY.
I want to use any plant food, chemicals, and supplements that i can use to get best results. I am looking at about $1000 to $1500 for finances. What would you do with what I have?
Well....You really had me going until we hit that budget thing. See, the problem is the best plant food, chemicals and supplements won't do any good without the rest of the things your plant needs and since you said its a closet, I am going to assume its not ventilated, at some point your may want to put a carbon filter in there, that can wait for a while, would you have more to invest as time goes? Your ' fresh air' system can't wait, what are your plans for that?
For lights I was going to suggest starting with a 4'-8 bulb t-5 fixture, it will do a dandy job for mothers and clones with less heat issues, you can start with only 1/2 of it on, thats $350.00, could be done with cfl's for less.
I think the best you could do for your flowering area would be an air cooled 1000 watt hps hid with a 'batwing reflector'. I recently installed one over 2-3'by3' tables and I am satisfied with the result. I posted the build of the reflector in DIY, around $50.00, with cool tube, ducting fan and ballast, total just under $500.00. They have axial fans, they call them Duct Boosters at the big box stores for under $30.00 that will do a fine job of blowing air thru the light, you will need to vent it out somewhere. 4" aluminum duct, like for a dryer vent, is cheaper, I like the insulated 6" flexible, higher capacity, easier air flow, it will add an extra $30.00 to the cost. It also kills the noise.
See, I can spend $1500.00 and we haven't built the hydro systems yet, I bought the flood trays $85.00, posted the res I built for $30.00, it's $40.00 now, with lumber, air pump, and water pump around $250.00 total. They would kick ass in that closet. So would Filthy Fletches 30 minute aero build and it would be cheaper except maybe for the meters, I spent $250.00 on mine, there are cheaper ones, I am just not familiar with them, Earl can give you better advice on some of the less expensive ones, you will need a ph meter and an ec (electrical Conductivity) or tds ( total dissolved solids) meter to run hydro.
I also looked online for seed and was wondering what sites you used to find products, and what would be a good strand to start with for a first timer.
