First time grower, experimenting with CFL and Sterilite Box

Look what arrived in the mail today:

So now I have a 45watt 6500k CFL on both end lamps, and 32 watt 6500K in the middle. The two 23watt 2700k CFLs that were on previously will probably be added into the box as my plants grow. I've read in a lot of places that the different spectrum is good for your plant. I will probably use the 6500k and 2700k for the entire grow, but haven't decided yet. Need to do some research on 6500k and flowering. Also I found a way to mount the oscillating fan in my box. AND I now have 6 seedlings sprouted. Am very optimistic about this grow!! UPS says I have a package coming in tomorrow...think that's my super divas :). If so I'll probably throw out some of these seedlings...don't have space for bag seed haha!

Vegging 24 hours, plan to scrog and then switch to 12/12 once the screen is almost filled.

I have a similar setup... only growing 2 ladies so I vegged for 2 days and switched to 12/12 using 1 6400k and 2 2700k CFL's
Have you thought about LST at all? The reason why I went scrog is because instead of growing your plant vertically due to height issues, you can grow it out horizontally. I've seen like 3-4 foot plants only 8 inches from the pot. I want at least an ounce you feel me! lol. Only reason why I suggest it is because I went to your thread and I saw you asking questions and looking for guidance so just offering a little info I found out. Here is a link about ways to train your plant in order to save space http://www.growery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/239247

Yea def thought bout LST!! Not to concerned on yield or training this first grow just trying to get the setup and basics good...researching LST has me interested in SCROG...thinkin bout makin permanent screen on top tote after this grow is finished...thanks for link and advice...GL

I gave LST a shot on my first run and it worked great. Second run, also documented in my sig below, I have set up the ScROG net and FIM'ed, and tied down the growing tips, a second time to force the shoots to grow to the net. Hoping for a greatly increased yield this time, using clones of the original plants. Best hobby EVER!!!

Yeah man, like your setup because it's very similar to what I would make. Might be making one of these in the future depending on what I get from my pc grow case. Can't wait to see how this goes though.

Feel you on that! Admire you for going the PC route, people think smaller is easier but it's not! Plenty to stress over. Well when you decide to go the tupperware route let me know if you need any advice...and be sure to document! Love to see someone else's approach.

Are you documenting your grow?

I started a grow in my huge (for a pc) pc grow box which was murdered by my mates who were drunk at the time whilst they were house sitting. I'm not at home enough untill mid August to be able to start another grow (it will be my first actual grow). Pretty sure after I get that first one under my belt I will progress a lot quicker. Thanks man for the offer which I will probably take you up on! May construct the box before August but I don't know yet. And I am the kind of person who, if anything, would over document my grow because I am so enthusiastic about it. I will also make a stop motion video after harvest with a pic from every day :)

hey Lady.J ... looking good. see ya went 2 boxes like I did. Mine are looking really good. I am documenting but making sure all works out first before I post it all. been learning alot from everyone on here ( THANKS EVERYONE! ) and getting tips from friends and family. im just into my first 2 days of 12/12 after 2 weeks veg. no lst for first try at it. Really looking forward to seeing if there girls or not. I think I read that they will show there sex in about a week or 2. Xing fingers. Never now what your going to get from bagseed but if these ones I remember as there where very little amount of them that I got and if I remember correctly the guy told me that he harvested alittle late on that batch so they could be all fem. :) Have had these seeds for like 20 yrs.

LMAO...don't feel bad, I'm pretty sure that's a lot like what's going on here. I'm actually restraining myself lls.

Thought I would give a little look of what I have going on over here...

So before we go forward just want to warn you that I'm pretty high. I just smoked the last of my stuff and probably am going to go a while without weed. I'll manage somehow, mostly with relaxation techniques lmao. Damn don't look forward to it. Anyway, I'm looking for a job and I need to save money so two great reasons to pass on Mary for a while.

I wanted to bring something up that I've noticed while canvassing the vasts amount of growing journals out there. It seems like many first time growers make the mistake of being overeager about their plants and end up seriously stunting growth or even killing their grow. These little seedlings do not need any nutrients. They also don't need to be drowned out by water twice every day. All they need is for you to keep things nice and simple. Have your lights within optimal range (I have mine around 4 inches of the plants with the box closed), make sure the soil is moist but be careful not to over water, and keep the temp as close to 78 as possible. When you start hitting the 90s your plants are in serious trouble. I've read a few places that having your humidity at 60% is ideal for germination. My humidity was pretty low at first, but it increased by 30% once I moved to dual box. I'm thinking it might be because I took the dome off the seeds and exposed them and the run off water to the box's air. Be careful though, too much humidity is bad. I believe you want to aim for around 50% during vegetation.

It's easy to get so caught up and excited about your first grow that you can't wait to find something to do...but please give your baby adequate time. Personally I've recently decided that my entire grow is going to be organic. The great thing about that is you don't have to really worry about overdoing things like you do with chemicals. There are teas you can make using molasses, bat guano, and worm castings that will give your bud an awesome smell and taste. I have read about the positive effects of organics in several different places, if you want quality bud be sure to check out the organic section on the forums. What can be better for a plant than nature?

I'm going to end up scrapping some of these plants. This is my first grow and figured that I would play around with some seeds while waiting for the seeds I ordered from Herbie's to get here. One is a feminized so def going to pull that out and start some clones when possible.

Am toying with the idea of keeping one of these bagseed as an experiment and see how it reacts to changes...like when I start nutes a few weeks from now. Bagseed test dummy =P.

And I'll leave you with this last pic..shows the fan I mounted to help the seedlings stalks grow strong. If you look hard you can see the stocking over the cut out. I duct taped it on the other side and made the square smaller on that side...been reading that passive air intake works best when the intake is half the size of the outtake.

Looking legit bro, and are you sure this is your first time? Haha, I made all of those amateur mistakes personally over the past couple of months, a little painstaking but I've got an iron-will that will only respond to absolute failure :P I think that a scrog would work perfectly with your set up. I've seen about 5 or 6 rubber tote scrogs (all with cfls) and none of them looked bad.

It looks pro as fuck in there! Are you gonna grow your bagseed out or are you gonna kill em and start your other stuff?

you might want to back off on the amount of light, they will get used to it and will want more when they get older
