First time autoflower grow...

Greetings! Just wanted to post a few pictures of my first attempt at growing weed. I ordered a bunch of seeds from Attitude (4 orders, all successful) and these are 3 of the free autoflower seeds they sent me: Northern Lights, Jock Horror, and Bubblelicious. They are about 3 weeks old in these pictures and I plan on taking a few pictures once a week from here on out.

Basically I'm trying to keep it real simple. Using Black Gold soil as the Fox Farms organic had too many gnats for my liking. Black Gold soil is sold mostly in the Pacific NW and certain western states.

For lighting I'm using one 150 watt HPS, but just purchased a second one which I will begin using in about a week. The first 2 weeks I had them under a 24-0 light regiment and then beginning week 3 went to 20-4.

I didn't use any nutes the first two weeks, but began using a 2/3 strength solution of Advanced Nutrients 2-part grow formula a few days ago. I read that autoflowers go right from seedling stage to flowering, but I am still using it and haven't noticed any detrimental effects as of yet.

One small fan for circulation. I live alone so am able to keep my closet door open. Temperatures are ranging between 70 and 79 most of the time with humidity ranging from 38 to 52.

I haven't added an exhaust or odor control yet due to lack of funds (!), but plan on doing so in the near future. They really aren't stinking too much right now at 3 and a half weeks old. Anyway, here are some pictures and I'll be posting more soon.

I welcome any advice from someone who has grown autoflowers. I am wondering when they will begin to flower though. They are all feminized and so I am hoping to see at the least the beginning of flowers soon as on July 6 they will be 4 weeks old. Cheers!

The first two pics are the NL, the second two are Jock Horror, the last two Bubblelicious.

Thanks for the kind words fellow tokers! Yeah, I went to Amsterdam in March and it was awesome, but it made me realize I can't afford to go over there very often so I figured I would try to grow my own. I intentionally went with a really small grow the first time around mostly as an experiment. They are only in 1-gallon containers so I'm not expecting a whole lot, but I do want to see if I can grow some smokeable bud. I plan on adding 5 Snowryder autos as soon as my second 150 watt light arrives (Tuesday).

@ Gonzo: Have you ever grown the NL autos before? Mine is about 2 inches shorter than the Bubblelicious and Jock Horror. Don't know if she's just a runt or if they are short and squat to begin with? Right now the Bubblelicious and JH are both about 8 1/2 inches tall and the NL is about 6 1/2 inches tall.

@ jbeagle: Hang in there bro! Mine weren't all that big at two weeks either, but in the last two weeks they really have taken off! I bet they've grown almost 2 inches in the last week alone. Tomorrow will be day 25 and I'll take more pics then so you can see how much they've grown in just a week.

@ werry: thanks bro! They do seem to be pretty healthy overall. They seem to be responding to the 2/3 strength solution of Advance Nutrients pretty well.

I plan on maintaining this journal to the very end so hopefully it will be an inspiration to others who want to grow autoflowers as they seem to get bad press! As long as the weed turns out good that's all I care about at this point. I'm sure adding a second 150 watt HPS will only help. I saw another grow journal on a different forum where the guy had dual 150 watt HPS lamps and it had some very, very nice plants. I'll be putting the Snowryders in 2-gallon grow bags so I'll be able to see how much of a difference container size makes with autos. Peace folks.

I started this post on July 2, but I want to take pix weekly on Saturdays so this will be my first weekly update with new pix to follow in one week. Overall, plants seem to be doing quite well considering the simplicity of the setup. Really, plants only need 3 things: light, water, and soil! Can't get much easier than that, right?! As always, I welcome any feedback. Cheers.

Well, there you have it! Will post new pics next Saturday. For those of you who have grown autoflowers before, when do the first flowers begin to appear? I'm curious as I am expecting them to begin flowering soon (I hope!), but have noticed nothing as of day 25. Thanks!

Note: Webshots has been deleting my pix so I am trying it a different way. Hopefully this will work out - damn Webshots Nazis!

if ur planning on letting them go in a 1gal pot ur def hurting ur harvest... Right now the pot size is fine but in a week or 2 theyll be dying for more space. Looks like u have a lil more room why not... just my 2 cents

I hear ya brother! Pretty much this first go around was just begun as an experiment. I plan on starting 5 Snowryder autos here in the next few days and I am going to be putting them into 2-gallon grow bags, but I don't want to use bigger containers than that. Plus this way I'll be able to see the difference between plant size using a 1-gallon vs a 2-gallon container.

Well, I need to figure out a better way to post pix apparently. I'm pretty sure Webshots deleted all the photos of my grow and I was able to restore the latest post, but not the first one. I have a feeling they are going to do it again so not sure how I can get these photos on here. I welcome any suggestions!

Well, just a quick update. I added a second 150 watt HPS yesterday and the plants seem to like it. It did raise the temp a little bit, but not by much. Then again, we are starting to get really warm weather here so I am running my AC pretty much all the time so as long as I keep the closet door open I can keep temps around 75-79.

The plants are looking as healthy as they could be but I still don't see any flowering. Getting slightly concerned, but hopefully they'll start to flower this week. Today is day 29 so we'll see what happens here in the next week.

Here are a few more closeup shots. I am beginning to think that maybe Attitude sent me photoperiod seeds instead of autos? They were free seeds so I'm not complaining, but I would be slightly upset because they are in too small containers if they aren't autos. Plus, I just started 5 Snowryder autos and I can't have them under 12-12 lighting!

If I don't see flowering in the next week I am going to assume they aren't autos. I can't think of any other explanation. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Well, I've decided to transplant my ladies to 2-gallon growbags this Saturday. At this point I don't know if I was inadvertently sent photoperiod seeds instead of autos or if these are just late developing seeds for some reason. In the event they are regular seeds, I think 2-gallon containers will be better in the long run.

My dilemma now is that I've germinated 4 Snowryder autos (still waiting for the fifth to germinate) and so I don't want to switch the lights to 12-12 because that won't be good for the Snowryders. I'm still holding out hope that the 3 autos I have growing now are in fact actually autos.

I think the next week or two will be very telling. If no flowers form on my current 3 plants then I will have to believe they aren't autos! They were free so I don't really give a hoot, but it still leaves me with a bit of a problem as far as the Snowryder autos are concerned. I'll keep you posted!

Hey there...thanks for stopping by! I'm assuming they are autos because when I got them from Attitude they were marked as such. Could be a mistake on their part or maybe these are just slow developing. From what everyone has said though, I think I should have seen some flowering by now. I'm going to give them another couple weeks and then make my decision. I just started some auto Snowryders though and don't have a separate growing area so I might have to keep vegging these for a couple months, which is why I am going to transplant them to larger containers this weekend. I'm happy for any advice anyone wants to offer up though! Peace.
