First grow - yellowing and dying leaves - Magnesium defiency?

Hi everyone. This is my first grow and my first post. I have a five week old Auto AK. Growing under a Galaxyhydro 300w LED (actual wattage around 140) and two 23watt CFLs. I've been using a mixture of Foxfarm Ocean Forest and Foxfarm Light Warrior, mixed about 60/40 but not exact. Up until a few days ago have only given PH corrected water and an Epsom salt foliar spray.

Lower leaves have been yellowing and a few have died and fallen off with some brown spots. I've been using an Epsom salt foliar spray on the tops and bottoms of the leaves but the problem has persisted and is spreading. My concern now is that I've misdiagnosed the issue and that the plant will die if I don't get it taken care of.

A few days ago, before I fed any nutrients I also noticed yellowing at the tips of the new leaves at the top of the plant. Just the very tips and as those leaves have grown the yellow tips have remained but the remainder the affected leaves look good to me with no spreading. I would have assumed nutrient burn but again, this started before feeding. In case this is a light burn issue, which I don't really think, I've lowered the plant from my LED first from 18 to 21 inches and again to 24 inches.

Two days ago I fed Foxfarm Big Bloom - 3 tsp per gallon and some molasses - either a 1/2 tsp or 1 tsp - should have written that down. Also included 1/2 tsp of Epsom salt per gallon - I've avoided feeding Epsom salt to the soil but I was desperate as the yellowing has persisted. Also, two days ago gave a foliar feeding that included Epsom salt, molasses and a tiny big of Foxfarm Tiger Bloom. I won't be feeding any Tiger Bloom to the soil until I'm into flowering. Again, all described and photographed problems started before any feeding I did Friday. Since Friday, I've noticed less drooping of the top leaves. As of late last night, the yellowing and spotting was continuing to worsen, though it appears to not be any worse today than last night. Hoping something is helping.

About a week ago I tested my runoff water and found the PH had gotten too low. I corrected that and since then have transplanted to a larger pot and new soil.

As I understand, in the case of magnesium deficiency, spraying with Epsom salt is a quick treatment but in the two weeks I've been doing this symptoms have only worsened. I initially did the Epsom spray out of concern of a sulfur defiency - the leaves were all light green. After only a day or two of spraying the leaves darkened a little, but then the yellowing and spotting started.

Since the the Epsom salt spray has not stopped this issue, I'm worried the issue is something else, or that the spray is causing problems.

Any help in diagnosing or suggestions to treat this and get things back on track is appreciated.

Not an expert, but that looks like a general N deficiency, plus over watering. Also, Big Bloom has no N (0, 0.5, 0.7). Grow Big has N (6.4.4).

Shoot, I wanted to avoid the common error of over watering. For the first few weeks I had under watered in anything but I have upped the watering a bit the last week or two. I found a local hydro shop that sells Grow Big so I'm going to pick that up tomorrow. Can N deficiency cause the brown spots?

Its much easier to over water than under water. You will know when they need watering as there will be noticeable droop. Don't water them until you see that... after a while you'll easily be able to spot when they need watering.

I'm having the same problem, it's the first time and I know one of the reasons is because I'm using used soil but I amended with Epson plant tone I'm guessing the nutes aren't available yet but I don't know. What do you guys think i should do?IMG_20170118_225024.jpg

It could very well be more than one deficiency. My vote is cal mag. Like, you might have a nitrogen thing, too, but you don't get those cupped leaves nor the spots with just nitrogen problems, right?
The second poster, weedy willy, looks like he might just have a nitrogen problem.

I had this sort of problem not so long ago turned out to be the ph of the water I was using so that's Deffo worth looking at maybe I was lucky I dunno. PEACE

Yellowing and spotting have stopped. I believe it was either a Cal Mag issue and possibly Nitrogen. And I think being a small pot too long didn't help. Have been using CALiMAGic, Big Grow, and Big Bloom. Things have rebounded nicely. Just found the first pistils. Hopefully I see some nice buds soon. The last week has been fun watching things stabilize and improve nicely.

Weedy Willy, how is your plant doing? My understanding of the Espoma products is that they are very good but the nutrients aren't available right away. Good luck with your grow.
