Hey whats up,

This is my first grow and grow journal. I started taking pictures a little later around 7/14/10 and my cameras not that great but it works. I'm open to any and all constructive criticism about what I'm doing cause I consider myself a noob. comment let me know what you think!

Grow room specs

Im growing in side a 2.6 x 2.6x 5.3 growbox

Im using a 400w MH/HPS light with a switchable ballast.
Fairly simple set up, a couple booster fans and everything seems to be going well.

About my babies

I bought 8 clones from a local club and started them off with some FoxFarm ocean floor that I got at a nursery near by. I added a little bit extra perlite to my mix.

as for nutrients I'm using Dynagrow Pro-N and now (since theyre flowering) Dynagrow Bloom

Troubles thus far

So far my main problem has been spider mites. I think when I picked these out from the club they had spider mites on them to begin with because I noticed them right from the start. I've been using the Green light neem concentraion with some dish soap and water spraying it on my plants every so ofter. It went away for the most part in the beginning but as of now I have noticed one plant had a pretty good infestation. I neemed them yesterday (8/6/10) and they seemed to do pretty well with that.

Here is my First pics taken on 7/18/10

So Ive been having some trouble with Spider mites I think ever since they came from the club. I had been neeming them on a normal schedule and that worked well through vegging. Since the flowering I have had a difficult time with them spreading like the neem isnt working very well anymore. I picked up some FoxFarm Don't Bug Me! some people refered me to try this so Im hopin it will work.

Anyways Heres a couple pictures of purrty flowers

I like your style. I'm thinkin bout doin something like this for my next grow. That stuff looks great for a 400W MH/HPS. That's just the size i was thinking of using, maybe a 600W. What temps and Relative Humidity are you getting in there? Are you venting the light separate from the tent ventilation?

Right now the temp with lights off is about 75-79/45-50% RH Lights on 80-85/60-70%RH ( I run my lights at night and its significantly cooler from the river I live next to). I only have the tent ventilation atm, I'm working on getting a new hood and some ducting maybe for my next grow. For my grow room size it was reccomended to use 250W But I've had no problems with my 400W being too powerful.

thanks for the feedback!

A couple days since I posted anything. Got some new pics. Notice a little nutrient burn. I did amp it up slightly and the ladies told me no! haha. I had to add some stakes because The branches are not that stong and the buds are getting big! Probably because I didnt put a simiulated breeze in my room. The stakes are working fine and this will be noted for next grow.

Coming along well, nothing better than smoking your own bud. How about a pic of the whole cab?

+rep for identifying and fixing your probs.

I noticed alot of my shade leaves are showing signs of all sorts of deficiencies, I know that they typically do this during the flowering stage, but it seems like its been happening pretty early on.

my question is maybe it was my nutrient switch. Do you guys go straight to flowering Nutes when you switch the photo period or do you stay with your veg nutes for a couple weeks into the flowering stage?? anyone help?

IMG_0662.jpgIMG_0661.jpg Pics of my then in the box. In these pics im noticing maybe my light needs to be closer?

IMG_0667.jpgmy cat wanted to say whats up.

So Looking at the pics I took yesterday, It seemed like my plants were too far from the light So today I raised them a couple inches. Heres what I did....

I had some canvas boards laying around from my gf. I took those and covered them with some foil. I used some extra shoe boxes laying around

IMG_0670.jpgIMG_0671.jpgIMG_0668.jpg
IMG_0669.jpgIMG_0672.jpg the canvas didn't completely cover the whole floor, so I put some foil on some of the shoe boxes. and theres the end product
IMG_0680.jpgIMG_0679.jpgI feel more comfortable now with the level they are at now.
IMG_0674.jpgIMG_0678.jpgIMG_0677.jpg

And heres some cola pics.

Good pickup on the defeciencies, and presuming that your pH is good then you've likely found the cause and identified an issue that most people take for granted. Flower nutes are high in K and low in N, detrimentally so if you agree with what Uncle Ben has to say. I continue using veg nutes for the first 1-2 weeks of flower when the plants are stretching, then usually switch over to flower nutes once I see the plant putting energy into budding.

You can also mix your nutes together, for instance a 4-2-2 veg and 2-2-4 flower nutes could be mixed 50/50 which would give you a 3-2-3 NPK.

I still have yellowing leaves come harvest, but overall the plant stayed healthy and balanced much longer into flower.

Noted: Ill keep giving Veg nutes a couple weeks into flowering. My ph levels are on par.

I dont mean to be a noob but how do I give you +rep for the awesome advice??

Edit: Nvm I figured it out. I need to post more!

Glad I can help. In the end all grows are different and experience is the best teacher. Based on your pragmatic thinking, I'm confident you'll settle into your own style soon.

How's your garden outside the grow room?

Good idea lowering the lights btw, I was going to say something but it's only good to do so if the plants don't burn. Its advisable to lower the lights in increments to ensure you don't shock the plants.. important when in the final stages of budding.

Yea thanks, ill take all the pointers I can get.

When I'm spraying my plants with neem or as of late Don't Bug Me I move them into my bathroom and spray them in the bathtub so I can be fairly thorough and makes it easy to clean my grow room/ look for dying leaves and what not. Please let me know if this can have any detrimental effects.

I did not take into account shocking the plants with the light distance change, although it does make sense. Ive been checking on them and havent noticed any signs of light burn as of yet. Ill have to find out in the morning. I hope nothing bad happens
