First grow: Northern Lights with LEDs

I think 6500k floros are the way to go for veg, my gals likes em. htgsupply.com has a good price on a 400 watt digital greenhouse light $184 isn't bad. The only reason I'm going with a 600 watt is because I already paid $280 for the LEDs and for a couple bucks less than the LEDS I'm going to get the digital green house 600 watt HPS with MH bulb, then I'm going to move my 2 48" floros to another room for clones:leaf:

If I were you I would ditch the floros and get this: http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=48930
I think it will veg better than floros and it will save you some $$$

I don't know if it is really a big deal but even the dark blue tubs let light in so I sprayed mine black, now that I think about it I think painting it white would have been a better choice. I think I have about 3" between pods, why do you want 6"?
Hmm interesting. Ive been looking at a digital 600w hps/mh bulb included , air cooled hood kit for $297 so i think its a good deal. I just dont know if i need 600w. My area is 4x4, but im planning on 4 tubs so i do think i need to get the 600 w. Only thing that stresses me is i dont want to be MH'ing with 600 watts because everthing i've read indicates thats too much and will burn. Unless i set the lights really high maybe. And with the space between pots, i dunno i read somewhere it should be 6 inches apart, but maybe i read wrong because from most setups im seeing on people's journal, its not possible to have 6 inches between unless the tub is enormous.

With the lids, ya i think i will either paint white, or use some mylar that i've already ordered and put mylar on the lid. lol noone's helping me in my thread so im back to asking in other threads! Btw did you figure out anything with the brown spots?

If you have the money for the 600watt HPS get it. There is no such thing as too much light. I'm getting a hood with 4" holes for ventilation and a glass cover to keep everything nice and cool. Check this out:http://www.uk420.com/growroomtools2.php?width=6&depth=8&height=6&numlights=1&typ=0&penceperkwh=10&lightdistance=1

Mylar lets light through 1 coat of white paint plus mylar will do the trick. No I havn't really figured anything about the spots, there not getting any worse so I'm going to let them be.

True, ive definitely heard theres no such thing as too much light. At least for the flowring, but i did see somewhere that they say vegging really doesnt need much light, and too much can burn the fan leaves. Not sure which, but ya i think i'll get 600 and if anything just adjust the light height myself.

You are using a 4" inline fan with scrubber? Or just fan? I was told that my grow area of 4x4 should normally be fine with 4" fan, but if im running 600 W then i need a bigger fan. Obvoiusly this is not so clear cut as i was told this by HTG themselves..tellin me to go with the 6"

Ya that makes sense, the hood I was looking at only had flanges for a 4". I'll get a reflector and 6" fan.

I'm pretty sure I have a Mg defficency I added 2 tbs of Epsom salt to one res with the bag seed and it looks like the leaf dying has stopped so I added 2 more tbs and 4 tbs to the NL res.

Week three since I first started to germ the seeds. I'm going to change res water and flush the roots to see if it helps with my lower leaf problem.

Go with a bigger fan than you think you will need. You can always turn it down with a speed control and doing so will make it WAY quieter.

I flushed all of the plants yesterday and put six of the plants in the worst condition in pure RO water and they are looking better. The other six I put 4 gallons of RO water and 8 tsp of Fox Farms Grow Big. I got my ph meter and TDS meter today, I have the ph at 5.8 and the ppms are about 830 the res with out any nutes has a ppm of 125. Is 830 ppm acceptable for third week of veg?

Does anyone know if Fox Farm's Grow Big stains roots? Yesterday my roots looked like this:

Today they looked like this:

I'm using 8 tsp of grow big and 5 gallons of water. PPM is between 700-800 and PH is at 5.8. I rinsed the roots and although the really dark areas came clean they are not as white as they were yesterday. I don't think it is root rot because the roots are not mushy and the plant's roots that are in the second res look fine, each res have the same temp and oxygen levels. Any Ideas?

Finally I got my new light in! This thing is beast, the temp is staying around 78-80 degrees. The 6" inline fan on the right side of the light is going to have a dryer hose running out side to help control the temperature. What do you guys think?

i think ur root turning brown has to do with ur nutes .. i think that FoxFarm BigBloom is the cause of it .. have you touched it is it slimey? lol i herd BigBloom does that, something to do with adding that in with another nutes causes slugey roots and could suffacate ur plants.

Ahhh.. the beauty of using the dryer vent. If you will take the temp of a dryer exhaust you will find it to be right around 90 degrees and it works beautifully. Mine was where the breaker box was and had to move the whole setup twice due to people coming to work on things in the house. But as far as venting without throwing up any alarms, the dryer vent works great and nobody would ever suspect anything. Sure beats 80-90 degree heat coming out of your roof for no good reason.

Ya, I think that the 600w is too big for my room, I think that I am going to need a 400w to keep temperatures below 80.
Final product

The room can get as hot as 86 but stays around 80-82...
