First AeroGarden Grow!

Hello All!

This is my third grow overall, my first using the AeroGarden, my first two grows are on the forum from awhile back.



Specs:
-Best bagseed I've ever had. I've had great success growing with bagseed..
-AeroGarden SpaceSaver 6
-24hr Timer with figure 8 Power Cord to control AG lights independently.
-I'm using the AG tablets for nutriets since I have so many.
-There are currently 2 plants sprouted and 2 seeds sprouted but haven't arisen and released the seeds yet.

I am starting 4 plants 18/6 and gradually going to 12/12 within 2-3 weeks. I want to be able to flower these plants immediately. I would like to end with 2-4 small females.

I have a small fan blowing air accross AG grow platform in sequence with the lights.

As of now my pH is 6.9; humidity 67% and temp is 78 F

A few questions I have are:

Should I keep lights off until all four plants have come through the hole on AG pods?

How can I adjust my pH because it ALWAYS reads between 6.8-7.2. I picked up my pH meter from Lowe's for $8.99 hopefully it is not giving me false readings? Is there a way I can check its accuracy?

Also what should I set the AG base to? Herbs? Live Plants? or does this only deal with the light cycle?

The AG bulbs in the hood are 26W ea, which makes it 52w total..

Does anyone know if AG bulbs(The flat ones) are full spectrum? on the AG website the replacement bulbs for my AG are full spectrum but it says nothing about it in my instructions. I assume thry are full spectrum since they are used for the entire cycle in typical AG grows.

I, too, am interested in the spectrum of the stock AG bulbs.

has there been any problem with heat or mold while using the aerogarden? the space im starting in is confined and has wood around and i wouldnt want to mess stuff up.

I have grown herbs in the AeroGarden previously and did not have it confined, I found minimal white mold under the pods near the roots but it did not spread. I also did not have adequate air movement to prevent the growing of mold, I would just watch your temps and humidity to make sure it isn't too high where mold can thrive, Also check periodically for any signs of mold, algae, or other types of growth, if you can prevent these from starting you will greatly appreciate it.

Anyone find any information regarding the stock AG bulbs and if they are full spectrum, the reason I would like to know is because if it isn't full spectrum then I am going to modify the AG hood to run on standard socket cfls and try to pack some red spectrums in there with more wattage hopefully.

Ok as of this morning here are the two plants that sprouted. They are doing well, I also took pictures of some other seedlings I started in dirt just in case this AG thing doesn't work out. For some reason the other two seeds have sprouted but still haven't made it above the pod yet, or really made any progress. I noticed the roots of the seed burrowing into the sponge, so I guess it is just a matter of time.

hey man im using that crappy space saver 6 thing too i ave already grown about a 3 and a half foot plant (but it turned out male)
but germing seeds in the ag sucks paper towl method all the way

I did germinate in a paper towel, it's just for some reason the tap root didn't want to tap into the sponge. How did you get a 3.5ft plant when the lights only go about 1.5ft?

i will have an update with pictures this evening.

Alright so we are in week one of 12/12, I only vegged for about 1 week from sprout. The largest plant just happened to root out and sprout faster than all the other plants even though they were all germinated in a paper towel at the same time and one of those plants was a transplant. So I have height issues, along with the tall plant stretching even though I've keep the lights about 1.5" away until I can determine why I have yellowing/browning leaves on this one tall plant.

Basically it grows almost a full leaf and then leaf's tips and middle turn a yellow/brownish color mostly in between the "veins" of the leaf. Can this be due to nutriet burn? or even wind burn?

I am using the stock AG nutriets, and have only added 1.5 small tablets since I started the grow. I have been foliar feeding with purified water only to try and cleanse the plants.

I originally used filtered tap water but have been topping off with plain purified water to see if the tap water and nutrients is what is causing it. Could 1.5 tablets be not enough and actually causing some type of deficiency? I also broke off one of the leaves trying to move the lights and it got caught on the cord.

any input would be appreciated. The first picture is a picture of the yellowing leaf.




I Also forgot to mention that my temps are in the mid 80's during the day and to mid-high 70s at night, I do not have much info on humidity, I do think it is low humidity because I keep the doors open when the lights are on. I do not know the pH either, I will be getting a meter shortly to get proper readings

hey man, would def suggest triming or toping that tall fucker lol, they should all generally be about same height if thery all going to be in the same garden. and secondly, maybe too much nutes, ive only used mayb 2 tabs over my first 3-4 weeks of veg. secondly, theres a few people who are starting to think that the ag tabs are for mainly veg. as there is no listing of what they make these things out of, also a couple posts that people had problems developing during flowering, so id advise use the tabs during veg, but make sure u dissolve them before u drop in, and then either some form or bloom nutes or just flush with ph'd water for flower cycle. and im not sure on this, but maybe you shouldv waited to go right into flowering, i was always under the impression that you should wait til root/stem structure is large enough to support flowers, or in our case fat lil nuggets lol. good luck man! ill be reading

I have been looking to see if anyone has done an aerogarden grom 12/12 from seed. I see that in this thread the grow started 12/12 after only a week. Very interested in the results.

My grow is going good. I used rockwool and germ'd the seed in the rockwool (no paper towel or anything). I am hoping that my roots reach the water soon so I can turn the pump off (I've read air stone in the resovior after pump off). My rockwool looks like it had mold or maybe salt deposit. I have cleaned the rock wool the last few days. I also cut out the bottoms of plastic cups and used them to wrap the stem to to block the light from the rockwool in case that was stimulating the growth. Anyway its been about a week and a half since sprout and like I said I'm doing 12/12 from seed. I heard the plants might start showing sex after about 2 or 3 weeks. we'll see. If anybody has some pointers for me please put them out there.

Now i'm certainly no expert in aeroponics, but from what I have heard and seen, i wouldn't use wood. good luck with your growing man.

how long do you intend to go before flowering? I know they triple in size when you flower and the aero garden only goes to 3 feet. Mine is 6 inches now and i am trying to figure out when to start flowering.

I vegged for 1 week and have been 12/12 for 3 weeks. pictures of my plants in a minute.
