Do you think I should add anything to my new transplant soil ? Its FFOF/FFHF 50/50 mix. Some of the things I have: Dr earth, EWC, perlite, buildasoil big 6, azomit and superthrive 4-1-1. Should I add some layers or just leave it plain soil ? Plant is about a month old.
Maybe start the 50/50 blend as a base and work from that. HF is ammended but lighter. I def would add the EWC and perlite all together.

Im on the fence about superthrive , but who knows , maybe it will add something to grow.

My original “ layered “ mix does appear to tap out during extended photo strain grows. It seemed that Top Dress was not enough during later mid and late stage bloom. I also had to supplement a dry fert ( Recipe 420 ultra bloom ) to bring them back. They would get extra hungry and begin fade a bit too fast , so I managed to temper that with this dry fertilizer.

Apparently this original mix will still do well with Autos but with longer photo strains it seems to get used up fast. I tried top dressing AND teas but still wasn’t enough. So in the end .... I am seeing that once you begin MID FLOWER you SHOULD amend with a suitable bloom fertilizer.

Buds were growing well but plants were craving more !

Just finished reading all 15 pages of this thread and excited to see it's still active. Will probably go back and read through again for notes. I'm in the process of getting all my equipment and have been planning on an organic grow. This thread reinforces what I was already planning so I'm stoked to see it in action.
One thing I do have a question about, I was planning on getting an RO filter for my water. I haven't had the water tested yet so I don't know what the tap PPMs are at. I'm mostly just wondering if there is any reason NOT to use RO filtered water. Is the filter stripping out good things along with the bad things? It looks like I may need to add CalMag to the water but would I need to add anything else other than CalMag and a PH Down?
Really appreciate all the info in this thread. I will probably start my own thread once I get everything set up and rolling. Hoping to get things rolling before the end of February.

For soil grows most people use tap water. You don't need RO water unless you plan to use it for your humidifier rather than buying distilled or if you wanna do coco at some point.

Update : Layer mix V2 with Recipe 420 Recharge

Well , this one is really keeping them green , and I have done nothing but water. Plants are happy and taking my mainlining well.
I think from now on I will use this mix for all photos for sure but will wait til I move to actual flower ( running the alternate Ultra Bloom ) dry fertilizer before commenting. Temps in tent are a bit cooler under cycle but plants are not showing issues , normally I try to keep led grows at 80° ISH but looks like they don’t care.

Its about 3 weeks in from transplant .

I too have read all 15 pages... Bravo to @Budzbuddha! I'm ready to try this on my next grow. The only thing I didnt see is, Do you water to runoff? If so, how much runoff?

Not really ... I don’t do runoff checks or whatever so I do simple watering methods. The soil “ can “ get a little hydrophobic and water just shoots out bottom so you may have to do slow and steady watering. I pull each plant , set in a large Tupperware container / water slowly , collect runoff and re water with it til medium is throughly hydrated.

My plants on this mix go about every 3 days before needing a good water.

New Layer V2 mix is still powering plants going on about a month ( Jan. 7 ) and doing nicely. I am done with LST / Manifold and am letting the veg continue for maybe a couple of weeks with final adjustments. I will be using ULTRA BLOOM after flip / stretch.
For now plants have not needed ANY feeding or supplements.

Update : Dry Fertilizer top dress

Details - Layer Mix V2

Bottom 1/3 FFOF w/ perlite ( using crushed pumice )
Top fill ( myco / EWC / Recipe 420 Recharge grow fertilizer )
Recipe 420 potting mix

Water run mix only ..... PH 6.5 - 6.7 TAP & ZERO WATER BLEND

Plants have been growing for over a month on this mix ......... no issues so far. Did mainlining/ hub structures on them .
Will continue last legs of veg for a couple more weeks , so I gave them another FEED with the grow formula dry fertilizer.
I added 1 tablespoon of Recharge 420 and a 1/2 scoop of Great White Myco to keep their numbers up.

This will be the last “ veg “ feed for them until flip and stretch..... then I will switch to Ultra Bloom blend.

Hands down this mix version will be my PHOTOPERIOD mix ..... version 1 is still a great AUTO mix , but this one is kind of synergistic .

I find this fertilizer ( at least in the last 5 weeks ) as killer option - simple / direct and a no brainer.
Definitely will replace Megacrop on my Shelf .

The photoperiod mix looks great, those plants so so GREEN!

Got my own thread rolling and have my set up finished tomorrow. Have the seeds germinating right now. I'm hoping they'll be ready to plant tomorrow or Monday.
I also recommended people back to this thread also. Cheers!
