I know quite a few people who have used Chantix and have successfully quit smoking, the side effects were just too much for me though. I think regardless of what you use it is important at first to try and stay away from smokers as much as possible at first because it takes so much willpower to quit and stay quit.

i got a weird perspctive on this

out of every smoker i ever met i never seem to be ass adicted as the others even though i been smoking since I was 18 and now im 30

ill smoke 1 on the way to work and 1 on the way home and maybe one at night.

if im drinking or partying ill finish a pack in one night maybe tho

well anyway heres my point but my wife doesnt seem to want to try it she smokes a pack a day and none of my friends would try it

anyway instead of depriving yourself of cigs compleatly why not slowly cut back

like if you smoke a pack a day and sleep for 8 hours that leaves 16 hours of wake time to smoke 20 cigs right so thats a cig every 48 min right

so now since you control your own body, you will only smoke 10 cigs a day over the 16 hours so that means your only allowed to smoke a cig every 1 & 1/2 hours ok

so then do this for like 6 months untill your used to that dosege

then you cut it down to 5 cigs for your 16 hours awake time so that means you can have 1 cig every 3 hours or 5 a day

then you do that for how ever long it takes to get used to it

then you can break it down to 2 cigs a day, one in the morning and one in the evening

then you can make exceptions if you are at a party and drunk. that way you wont use the excuse of smoking too much at the partty to go back to your bad ways again

its easy for me to do but i dont get cravings for cigs as much as others, i dont know why

but i guess if the craving feels as bad as hunger then it would be hard not to smoke:shock:

The way you describe big p is flawed. I too was a smoker like yourself, one at certain times maybe 4 times day and many many more if I drank. I could actually say truthfully I didnt enjoy smoking at all unless I was drinking. Cutting back to 1 or 2 a day makes you enjoy and look forward to something you had previously only seen as a habit that needs to be quenched. Cutting back to 1 or 2 actually builds your desire. I tried it many times and failed. My 2 pence.

Good advice Big P. Cutting back a little at a time helped my success with the gum and it also helped keep me from getting down on myself when i slipped up and smoked. Quitting is not easy no matter how many ways you try, just keep at it until you find what works for you.

Start chewing tobacco, then quit that. I do that when I need to quit for a while... always end up going back after a few months though... but it is doable... I just liked smoking too much and I'm too immature to just decide to leave them alone... who wants a long life when you could have a good life anyways?

This method works great except for the party binge exception. When smoking, your brain develops nicotine receptors that must be stimulated. As you ween yourself off the cigs, the receptors begin to die. EVERYtime you smoke, more receptors are being built, thus more nicotine needed to feel satisfied. Once you begin to quit, stay quitting. As it is a wagon you cannot easily climb back atop. All science aside, hang out with non-smokers as they will verbally dictate disgust, which helps. And if you get a girlfriend who doesn't smoke, it'll help you quit because the desire for :hump: will be stronger than the desire to light up.

Lastly, Good Luck and Happy New Year!

i won't take chantix, my bro was on it and it FUCKED him up! bad dreams (night terrors, as in he thought he wasn't going to wake up... ever) and bouts of depression. nuh uh! i've dealt with depression before so i know i have a history i'd rather not bring that back on.

my plan is gum.... nicotine and regular... just chewing regular gum (w/o nicotine) got me by for about a month once, i was really impressed. that combined with the occasional nicotine gum, should do that trick.

also looking into those "electronic" cigarettes. you get the fix apparently, and it has nicotine... might do that for awhile, until i just decide to give it up.

thanks for all the responses everybody! keep this thread alive!

LETS QUIT!!!

just be careful with the Chantix.... it turned me into an angry, angry little man :) i would snap for no reason, and it almost turned violent... so i quit the chantix.... i learned afterward, that my depression probably had something to do with it....

chantix basically makes your body unable to uptake dopamine... meaning you get no reward/pleasure out of cigs anymore.... also meaning that you have NO dopamine while you are on it.... you WILL stop smoking on them though.
i am depressed at times too. i have a bad temper so i will have to not turn into a maniac lol.

Yeah, those commercials to get in on the Chantix class-action lawsuit were on for a LOOOOOONNNGG time, and they were describing all of the symptoms gogrow did.
yeah i was hesitant after seeing all that shit. i know i wont commit suicide and to quit these filthy fuckers i can handle nightmares.

you'll do the one pill a day for a week or two.... gives you a taste of it... once you start the full dosage, it wont be long and the switch will kick.... i went from going to bed a pack n half a day smoker, to getting up and not having any and looking at everyone else smoking as idiots :).... like flipping a switch.... but the mood switched just as quickly.

hopefully it works fine for you bro:hug:
somebody gave me a couple week supply and i almost quit but then it ran out and i started smoking again. it had me smoking next to nothing and i got absolutely no pleasure from them at all. i really didnt feel too many bad side effects either. but like you said i am gonna have to control my temper.

a heavy cig smoker pays just about as much money per week as a heavy pot smoker.

i had one yesterday for the first time in months, buddy offered it to me and i wasn't high so i figured i would enjoy the buzz. it lasted 10 minutes and i did enjoy it...its just not for me...cigs taste so gross

Cigarette free since January 1, 2010 3:00 AM and doing alright so far.

I picked up an NJOY nPRO electronic cigarette. It has nicotine cartridges so I'm getting enough of a fix to keep me level headed. Waiting on my P90X workout program to arrive in the mail  that's another resolution. Getting my ass back into a healthy condition. As I reach a quarter century in age, I want to be a picture of health.

Keep it up fellow quitters!!
