Hey all just wondering if anyone has looked into or knows of any serious eyesight damage that could be caused by entering bright high wattage setups without sunglasses?? Cheers.

Don't know any specific facts or stats but I know my 400 watt MH alone is enough to cause eye damage if you have no protection. Instead of sunglasses I just use a hat to block direct light, but in bigger rooms with HID lighting it's an accepted practise to wear sunglasses and ones that actually protect agaisnt uv rays are prob the safest.

For me as long as I don't look directly into it and don't stay inthe roomlong imok tho.

Yeah I see I try not to make direct eye contact with lights but I know I have copped it a few times when entering tent have almost had feelings of flash burn after staying in tent for long periods of time and that was with sunglasses on

Exactly the same feeling I get if I take too many peeps at it directly.

Feels like welders flash lol eyes are strained and you see dots

I think about this topic every time I walk out of my grow room and can't see a single thing haha. I try to wear sunglasses every time, but I don't always remember. I'm sure there are long term effects, but I'm sure as long as you try to wear eye protection it isn't much worse then watching hours of TV every day.

Yes your lights will damage your eyes.... method 7 makes sunglasses that block the UV A/B and the UV C spectrums... theses are normally filtered coming from the sun because of the atmosphere.... plus the also remove the infrared spectrum which helps you see the true color of your plants which aids in diagnosing problems....
Method 7s are expensive but there is another company called lummii something or close to it that sell glasses that do the same thing and about 1/10 the cost.... they aren't as stylish but who really cares about that....
If you have multiple lights I do really recommend these to save your eyes....

i have seen grower posts that claim to have eye damage from the HID's
thinking CFL's might be more benign, but total watts could make them dangerous too i guess
