Hey,
I belive this is the 10,000th thread on the simple question: How? How to grow for begginers. And ive been on for days looking at diferent sites, different posts and have come up with the same problem. Ive learned just about everything there is learn as a beginer but It seems everyone wants to grow 5 or 6 plants, invest in high tech equipment and run a buisness. So here is my delema:

I want 1 (or 2 plants). im sure i could set up lights in my closet and a fan and such. But i dont wana be spending tons of money. I dont want hydrophonics and all these crazy contraptions that look like they belong on a space ship. Simple pot with good soil, water with nutrients and some light. I guess you could say what i want is more suited for outdoors... but that wont be an option in my current housing. cant i just grow it like i grow the other plants in my room? water, some sun from the window, Tender lovin care? Is there any solution, or should i stop dreaming and just give up and settle for paying for it.

Im sure im not the only one intimidated by all these sites with all these what seems like advanced growers. Theres plenty that really dont care but just wana try. If it takes longer, thats cool. if it doesnt harvest a huge amount, ill live. I dont smoke a ton and can settle for a small harvest.

so... do i have a chance, or should i give up till im older and have the money and means for larger things.

don't tell anyone. it's just a plant. it has a few simple rules: light cycles, nutrients prefered... i have seen some very nice plants grown in apartment windows. but you must follow the rules.

suggestion would be go to the grow journal section and follow a couple. you'll see where they started and where the ended up. you'll also see what problems came up and how they were resolved.

u can get simple lights like flourescent lights at your local hardware store and ordor like 100dollar or 200dollar maybe even cheaper flowering lights or just use the flourescent lights for flowering just do the 12/12 hour light cycle for it to start flowering with flourescent it will go slower and just yield less buds just try growing u can't know it all in a day it takes time to learn how to grow as i am learning with my first plants they are doing pritty well with 40watt flourescent sunshin bulbs for vegatation and going to use a hps 400w that ican ordor for like 160 that comes complete

remember alot of us do this for fun. with what you want, you could probably get up and running for around $40 USD. that is if you have the seeds.

ok so tell me what you think.
Heres my plan for the cheapest indor growing next to say just setting my plant next to a window. I wouldnt really call it a grow room but what can ya do. Use a FluoreX light for all stages. yup, i said it, All stages. check it out here Bright Wing 42W 2700K 2800 Lumens CFL Grow Light - Plantlighting Hydroponics Dont know if itll work but its 60$ so if it doesnt, ill survive. so eith way, ill hang that in a closet which is newly apinted white. Ill germinate a few, and then do all the steps to get em to sprout. Ill start vegging them and as soon as i can sex them (i might ask for some help and show pics here) ill keep the females. But as they grow bigger ill prolly just go to two that i know will live (or hope). Im gona go just soil (dont worry the nice gardening kind) and two large pots. Some water with nutes. Attempt to keep everything straight and then when i want to flower just switch into 12 12 and hope and pray. For ventilateion ill throw a fan in there that blows from the back of the closset (its a long clost) out the door. The lights arnt too intense so it doesnt look like the heat is much of an issue.

SO its a pretty bare bones operation and if it doesnt work, i dished 100$. a few days of work. Ill live.

Any chance? Ill do a grow log, but this prolly wont happen till late march cuz im leaving for africa in a little and will be gone for a month or two so i dont really have the ability to tend them! Ok so lemme know what ya think... haha dont be to harsh on the critisism.

take the money that you were going to use for that light and invest in just general cfl's. you might even get better results. and save some money

dude before you go and buy expensive lights online look at ebay under grow lights (compact fluorescents). you can get them super cheap

Dont start till you are back from your holiday.... Sounds like a descent start up and if you see your newly sprouted shoots looking a tad bit long in the tooth, lower your cfl's a little closer to the little blighters. You can always supplement with sunlight to make them a little more robust. after about 3-4 weeks of vegging, switch to 12x12 with the lights. Once you see who is a girl and who is a boy, you will want to thin the boys out. But leave the lights on 12x12. You will prolly flower for 6-10 more weeks. Depending on the strain you are growing. You will get a good growth spurt at the start of flowering. When the tricomes (the little crystally things on the buds) appear semi opaque, to light orange, its time to harvest. Prior to this point make sure you have about a week of just water. NO FOOD. The nutes you put in will have to be leached out to make the buds taste better. Dry completely and cure in a sealable jar. Good luck and happy smoking. God Bless :)

thanks alot!

whitey: i did check ebay, i found the same light on ebay as on the site. There were cheaper ones but i felt like if i went cheaper they would be crap. But i could be wrong. It was nice that this one specifically had growing in mind and wasnt a spot light. but those 30$ ones the fluoreX ones people are talking about could possibly work. anyone have experience?

bigger question i do have is more technical. Ventilation etc etc. would just a normal fan work for the small set up i have? (will have) what about all that co2 stuff. And quick question, the lights im looking at (see the link) and the other cheap CFL's plug into a normal outlet correct? i am under the impression that everything needed for these lights is built in, you hang it, plug it and its good to go. Newby mistake? i know the other kinds you need outer equipment etc. etc. Thanks for all the help. im just keepin it simple.

what strain do you think is best? it would need to be somewhat small, but hopefully as strong and tuff as i can get, so i can withstand the fact that im not at them with a microscope every second checking and polishing them. May sound dumb but would an outdoor seed be more appropriate due to the fact they can survive outdoors? Or is this a stupid idea. Possibly and indor outdoor? I saw a few good strains on amstradam seed bank .com "mr hindukush" looked like it might work?

thanks so much again.!

:hump: Its a start!
Plants will survive a lot of mistreatment after they have rooted well.

The 2700k light you mentioned is a red color spectrum light and is designed to promote flowering.
You might want to consider getting a 6400k (blue spectrum) fro vegi growth.
Most garden shops sell them or you can look at on-line auctions.

You probably wont need your fan. Plants like temps around 80 degree F.. If anything you might need a heater!

Remember plants like CO2, so don't let them set in stagnant air.

I just read your post for the first time and I have to comment that I seriously doubt if many people posting on this site are growing for a business.
It is not a good career move to post your grow plans to any site that could easily be monitored by leo and his big brother. It is very easy to trace anything that is emailed or linked.
I would think most people here are just closet gardeners or wanna-be gardeners! (or they are good at hiding their I.D. with proxys)

Good luck with your project!
