Blair is a douche nozzle.
A turncoat that turned into an opportunist. And surprise surprise he wound up in politics.
He should feel so full of guilt over even accepting the job that he should personally call the hundreds of thousands charged for mj offenses while he was "the chief" and apologize
When camh released their paper he was the guy reading it at the press release and said they are right. A month or two later when he is running he tried to distance himself from mj altogether.
He is as unbiased for this job as tommy Chong would be imo

I'm not sure he's the best guy for the job, but being a former top cop in a major city people will listen to him.
He will have his marching orders and talking points but no real influence or authority. If he can sell it to the con base ( that seemed to love him ) then it may not be so bad??

anyone who was one the other side of the fence, i would never trust.

Doesn't make you stupid at all. I don't like Blair and I cringed when they named him as a candidate, and I think they could have picked someone better for this job. That said, he is there to bring about the Liberal legalization promise. He isn't there to toughen pot laws and he has no power to make any decisions. He is an information gatherer and his voice will be only one of many that determines the final model. Ditzy's 'police state, lock you up and throw away the key' is so much bs fear-mongering to try to convince people that Trudeau is going to magically make legalization equal to criminal prosecution.

I don't think the liberals are as dumb as purported to be by some.
They've shown some pretty strategic plays through the election and I feel this appointment is another strategic choice to help roll out legalization and sell it on the tough nuts to crack.
He's no different than Calgarys police chief who quit, ran for the cons, and lost.
I'm glad we have a cop in a fluff position that has been pro legalization publicly instead of an anti pot con who very well could have been given a real position.

Jesus..... i know a half dozen cops personally and every single one of them thinks weed should be legal. Less work for them. Plus...its a shitty deal busting people for something they dont see as being wrong. But i bet the bigger part of itbis then they can smoke weed on the weekend too.

Mayor John Tory says former Toronto police chief Bill Blair is the "ideal person" to oversee the Liberal government's plan to legalize marijuana.
Tory's comments on Friday come after sources told CBC News that Blair, who was elected as the MP for Scarborough Southwest in October's federal election, has been assigned to handle the pot file. Blair was named one of two parliamentary secretaries to the minister of justice last month.
Tory told reporters the former chief's "different experiences" would be an asset in developing the legalization plan.
"It's a very complicated matter," said Tory. "Exactly how do you change the law? How do you distribute marijuana? You know making sure that safety is kept at the forefront."
The president of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police also endorsed Blair in an interview with Metro Morning host Matt Galloway.
Jeff McGuire, who is also the Niagara police chief, said that he knows Blair very well and it "makes good sense" to have him on the file.
"We've got great respect for Bill and his career in law enforcement," said McGuire.
When he was Toronto's police chief, Blair seemed to support at least one call to legalize the drug. In October 2014, the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH) came out in favour of legalization of marijuana, combined with strict regulation.
At the time, Blair told reporters that it wasn't up to police to make the law, but he was "very encouraged by the public health approach advocated by CAMH."
One of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's earliest policy planks was a promise to legalize marijuana. The government has not yet indicated when, and how, it will strike possession of pot from the Criminal Code, but it's touting any plan as an improvement to the current framework that, it says, funnels money into the hands of criminals.
