Ever wonder about those cheap hygrometers on eBay?

Yeah, One of them also came with this bonus feature: If you turn it upside down, it goes off and comes back on when you turn it over again!

the thing that bothers me is they are all made in china. even the cal3 ones which boast accuracy plus or minus 1 degree where as ALL of the rest claim to be off by as much as 5 degrees. so which is more believable? cal3's lie about their accuracy and simply charge too much or they are all basically the same, little difference and the others tell the truth about their accuracy??? i'm up for the former. anyone wanna chime in? i should say i do stay away from analog hygrometers. way off. but the digitals??? i'm thinking they are almost identical. some just cost more cuz they come from a smoke shop not a direct dealer in china.

I have 2 cheap mechanical meters off ebay and they read almost exactly the same. They were around $10 a piece if I remember. I do not use them anyways as I just go by feel to cure buds and here in Socal it is so dry humidity is a non issue in the grow tent.

Shit, I posted the wrong photo. That photo should've also had a Caliber III right next to them for comparison. Think I deleted that one now... Yup, I did.

Anyway... Every cheapy hygrometers I bought were off from the Cal3. Of the four they were off +7, +5, +2 & -5. I labeled them as such and will use them.

The main difference I can see, other than the Cal3's accuracy compared to them, Is how fast the Cal3's readings change. The Cal3 will change in an instant if breathed on it or put in front of a fan. The cheapys will change after prolonged change.

I'd still rather wait for a sale on Cal3's, xikars or hydrosets and then buy a few at a time but I just had to check the cheapo's.

its the humidity they are displaying, the temp is the little number in the corner
and they only deviate by .3 degrees, seem pretty accurate to me.

Aloha Amax~

but... omfg!
I am about to harvest/cure for the first time (tomorrow morning) and I got those other ones from the "stickeee-d" thread?
I won't post in ur thread but I have a pic of all six, in the calibration bags... and all different RH's (please insert emote thats pulling hair outta the head right here!) :)

stickeee-d threads? Which hygrometers are you speaking of?

Also, if you have at least one hygrometer that takes correct readings just keep a note of the differences with whatever cheapo's you have and you can use them. I'm using all four of the cheapy's I bought. One reads 62RH but has a sticker I put on it that says "-2" so I know it's actually 60% RH. As long as you aren't too stoned it works out fine. lol.

The XIKAR is a great hygrometer b/c it is able to be calibrated.

Whatever hygrometer a person has you can check the accuracy very easily by doing the salt test.

If you don't know what the salt test is then google it.

Simon D's Thread on, "The Perfect Cure"...
Caliber lll's... (something or other)
Good idea about just making a +/- notation, tho. TY!

Oh yeah, The Caliber III's. Those are excellent hygrometers for the price. hell, they're quality hygrometer's regardless of the price. The cannot be calibrated but they're supposed to be calibrated from the factory so you dont have to touch them...?

Hmmm...very interesting...
I have never used such an item...
Good thing everything seems to be at the proper humidity...lol.
