It's all good I ended up having riverside PD show up at my house at 2 in the morning last night. Luckily he was one of the nice ones and didn't bother us...just let us know that someone called the cops about a suspected grow and checked to make sure we were legit and let us know that although he isn't bothering us about it that if people keep calling that the pd will eventually send drug enforcement out and they may bring someone to make sure everything is up to code and if not they will fine the fuck out of me since they can't arrest me. Time to move into a different house ASAP.

They can't just do random code inspections that I've ever heard of. Unless you pulled a permit for work, or there is a clear and imminent danger. The 4th amendment applies to all. Sounds like a ploy to get consent to search your house for anything interesting if they get another call. Code enforcers need a warrant or probable cause too. Also, never let one of those fuckers into your house. Their sole purpose in life is revenue. They are required to write you up and fine you for any other violations they notice. You should talk to a lawyer. Also, keep your garage locked down like dirtyho says.

Yeah the garage is normally locked. The only time the door opens is if i need to pull the Z in or out. The HOA dude just so happened to stroll up on one of the occasions that we had the small door furthest from the side my grow is on up. Either way all of the breakers, wiring and equipment in my flower room is coming down today...and my girls will get an extra week of veg untill we can move into a new place. Shit was too sketchy.

Agreed, I hate neighbors that don't mind their own business.

Sall good turns out it was my landlord that called the police...and then the police called him back to inform him that i was within my legal rights as a mmj patient and they didn't do anything. My landlord told me its fine to continue what i was doing but that the entire neighborhood has been asking questions about windows being blacked out and what not. Also someone said we offered their kids a joint when they came to do raise money at our house. Fucked up people in this neighborhood.

You have to blend in, man. Make sure your place looks normal from the outside, keep your lawn green. Be a good, normal neighbor. No matter what, always fly under the radar.

Sucks, seems the whole neighborhood knows you have a grow now. Better hope there are no scumbags that will try and rip you off. I I hate living in places with HOAs. Good luck man.

Well we're moving regardless. Landlord says we can stay and keep doing what were doing...but if we're uncomfortable in the neighborhood then he'll let us break the lease. Bunch of crazy ass people living in wildomar.

Did you put trashbags up on your windows or something for them to say you were blacking out your windows.

I've got poly on my windows. I had to block them off somehow...would like mighty weird if orange light was coming from one part of our garage all night. Then again so is plastic. Either way I'm moving. If it wouldnt be such a pain in the ass to run two 240's to one of the spare bedrooms i'd just do that and move my shit so people cant see...

I have always had blinds in the window and then built a box around the whole window. From the outside all people see is closed blinds.

My current room is a room built in the garage. Drywall and such, with ikea shelving units along the entire exposed wall (one car of a three car garage). Even if I open the garage door all you can see is shelves with crap on them. I am also planning on permanently shutting the garage door, but that's only partly related to the grow.

Bummer about rentals is that you can't build walls in most of them. Either way man, I hope you get it worked out. I'm hoping to meet up with you at a cannabis expo/festival this year so we can share some smoke.

Yea I would have to say lining your windows with anything will look just as suspicious as the light would. When people are told how to identify grow houses one of the most common things is blocked out windows. I have blackout curtains over a set of blinds so all people see from the outside are blinds. I will pull the curtains back every now and then just so my neighbors can see my tv or lamp and believe it's a normal room.

Sucks you had to move so quickly, hopefully the next place works out better.

Yeah I know wish I could have stayed in one place for a while. And it's impossible not to black out the windows in the garage...cant just stick little blinds on garage doors lol. Either way the next house i'm looking for will have solid windowless garage doors so I don't even have to worry about it. Going to look at a place on an acre of land today and just saw another house down in escondido on CL that sits on 2 acres. If i can get rid of the garage window issue and not have people living 10 feet from me...I think it will be super easy to stay under the radar.

The code violation thing is the latest method of making a grower's life hard. Even with larger grows the city is choosing not to undertake costly arrests, but instead, send in code enforcement and make money on the fines...and the fines add up. I believe Ventura County was the first to start this as a matter of policy. My buddies 15 light show was raided by cops who didn't do anything because his collective paperwork was in order. However, to get up to code his construction costs would exceed $40,000!!! He paid our attorney $3,000 to secure a 6 month extension and spent that time building a new op. Done deal.

Note to all: If your neighbors know you're growing it's time to shut er down. There's no if, ands, or buts. People are scary as fuck, and people in HOA's are even scarier. Myfriend grew in his garage in a gated community. He set the grow up so everytime he harvested he could open the garage door for the world to see. With no plants and a couple hrs covering up ballasts with garden tools, the place looked like every other cookie cutter garage. After a weekend with the door opened it was door closed for another 60 days and back to growing. HOA's may be scary, but they're dumb as fuck.

I'm going to look at a house right of central ave in about an hour. Sitting on an acre of land...two seperate two car garages...if the inside of the house is nice then I'll probably be all over it.

I am very lucky that I live in a quiet area where people mind their own business.

Collective Gardener, your friends garage is a good idea. I can do the same with mine, but am shutting it permanently anyway. (Too much dust flows in around it)

Also, I appreciate everyone sharing their stories and info. It's helped me to relax a bit. :)
