Any of you guys do electrical work or know an electrician that wont ask questions? I need to wire up a 240V outlet and a few 120V outlets with new breakers. The breaker box is literally on the wall that i need the outlets so it should be super easy. I'll obviously pay decent to have it done. I can't go any further until I get these outlets wired.

I feel your pain man!! I was wondering what to tell an electrician that I am gonna do....in order to have him wire my shit right. Someone told me to tell him a I was a potter...makin' clay pots and am going to have a kiln installed soon come to fire my personal creations. I dunno, might work. Anyone know what will use the same power, roughly, as a grow op??? What can one tell the electricians?!?!?!?!?!?!?

If you hire an electrician you have one more person you have to worry about busting you or ripping you off. Especially if you hire someone off craigslist. A legit electrician might not even wire up what you need because it might not be up to code.

My advice is to figure out how to do it your self. Go to home depot or lowes, buy a book about wiring. What you are talking about wiring up is pretty basic. If you can set up a grow room, you can wire a couple outlets, you need a few simple tools and some common sense and you can do it. There are a million home improvement message boards and you-tube channels too. With the internet you can figure out anything.

I planned on attempting to do it myself...but if there is someone here on RIU that could lend a hand that is a fellow grower then I wouldn't be so worried.

Electricians are going to know exactly what is up. I just wouldn't mention why you need power upgrades. Just tell them what you need and where you need it. He'll know what you're doing, but probably won't ask directly. If they do tell them it's a photography studio or some shit. They'll know you're lying, but fuck it. If they give you any more shit beyond that, tell them you changed your mind and won't be needing their services. But they are supposed to be professionals. They should just STFU and do their job.

Electricians aren't doing real well right now in Cali because people aren't building a lot of new houses and remodeling. They are most likely thankful for any work they can get.

Just be sure to tip your electrician well.

I'm right outside of murrieta. It's going to be a really easy job to wire up. I've ran electrical wiring before just never 240v and never installed new breakers into a panel.

What he said! :)

IMO the best way to have an electrician do work is to remove anything related to growing, and as Dan Kone said, if they ask tell them it's for a studio or a shop. Many pro or contractor quality tools will be 240. The house I own was previously owned by a guy who ran a cabinet/wood shop out of his garage and it has a lot of 240 outlets and a few sub panels in it. (I have more power than I know what to do with!)

You can do it yourself but you have to ask yourself, is a fire and the related hassles worth it?

And yes, tip them well. You'd be surprised at how far some hush money will go.

I pay my electrician and AC guy extremely well. My AC guy is cool so I tip him in buds. He's super stoked on it. The electrician I just slip him $60 cash on top of what he makes from his company and he's happy. These guys don't make a ton of money, so a little tip like that keeps them appreciative. They are a lot less likely to run their mouths about what you're doing if they like you. These are the only two people who know where my grow is. Even my girlfriend doesn't know. So I make sure to treat them right.

Yeah well after looking into it what i need to do is actually fairly easy. Went and snagged a 30 amp and 20 amp breaker...some 10/2 w ground and some 12/2 w ground...some external boxes...some 120 outlets. Need to go grab some conduit and some outlets tomorrow and start wiring up my room.

My son is a contractor he says the biggest problem he has is for renters, that he can't work on a house unless it's for the owner.
We just did a nice green house up here and theres more people wanting one now.

Good on ya, brother. The side benefit of doing it yourself is the intimate knowledge of how your grow works. I have found that just hanging out in the electrical isle at Home Depot or Lowes clears up many things. By looking carefully at all the breakers, boxes, and outlets it starts to become quite clear how it all works. Even the patial retard employees may have something to offer.

Every outside contactor that knows of the grow is another little bit of risk. People call the police for a variety of reason, but the most dangerous reason is jealousy. Many folks feel above growing weed and think that people who do are "cheating"...not playing by the rules to get ahead. Maybe they're having $$$ probs themselves. Either way, the less people that know or suspect you're growing the better. It took me a year to find an HVAC guy who I could trust.
