Effects of Yield Vs Number of plants

If you start flowering with four plants using a 400W HPS, and you reduce that number of plants in week 3, will you see the same yield as you would with four plants?

Example:
400W with four plants, apx. dry yield 2 oz. each plant (8 oz. total)

400W with three plants, apx. dry yield 2.67 oz. each plant (8 oz. total)

Is that how it works?

Or, will I simply get the 2 oz. x 3 (6 oz. total)?

In other words, Does the extra light the three plants get, make up for the missing plant?

I think it would work if the plants themselves are capable of holding that much bud on that few plant... It would take a nice fan for good thick stems. Because as far as i know the theoretical max for a grow is 1g/w... So if a plant has a max of a pound or something... it wouldn't matter if you have 2 or 4 plants under a 400w light... The most you would get is 400g's. I think?

while this is mostly true there are cases of people getting 2g per watt. theres several grows here that have done it. most people get around .5 g per watt. more plants can mean more yeild but its kinda about maximizing space , if theres wasted space put a plant there, if theres not a opening dont force a plant there.

growingforfun, can you link me to one or two of those 2 gpw grows? im not doubting you but i havent seen any of them yet.

to the OP, i actually have experimented with your exact example just recently. so i grew 4 plants under a 400 hps, i got just over 1/4 pound. next with the same light i grew one single plant and i got 1/4 pound (different genetics and veg time). next i grew 12 plants under the same 400 watt HPS but i added a 400 watt MH (couldnt afford to buy more hps) and this time i got 6 ounces so 2 ounces more than the previous but a shit ton more plants. now i have clones from the last 12 flowering under 1400 watts HPS, their about 15 days into 12/12.

Interesting. My last grow had a 400W, a 250W, and two 26W CFL's (200W equivalent) on the side. I got 12 oz dry from four plants that time. It was amazing!

This time I'm only using a 400W with four plants. Minus one Bubba Kush hermie last night, equals three plants left. I am hoping for a similar yield as four plants with only three. I was looking forward to Bubba, but life happens.

If I got 1 g per watt (400g's), I'd be so very happy, but that's not going to happen. That's over 14 oz.'s.

Since I have about half the light as my first grow, .5 per watt would be an excellent yield imho (200g's), or just over 7 oz.

Rep for everyone, thanks.

depends on how long you veg and the strain and the lumens per foot.....i grow a strain that i veg for 7 weeks then flower and I end up with 8 oz a plant but im under 6-1000 in a 12 x 18

I can give you my strain...you can grow it and not get the same amount I do....its also based on how you grow and what you use
