I have the ebb n grow from C.A.P. And am using 12 pots full of hydroton and have been flooding and draining twice a day 12am and 12pm. Now that's been for two weeks. The roots are now showing through the bottom of the inside pot full of hydroton . Now there's always water siting in the bottom of all the buckets. So I lifted them 1.5in higher than the control bucket to drain better. I also hear to swich up to flooding the pots 3 times a day as soon as I see roots come out the bottom? Then 4 times a day during the final month? Damn thing didn't come with directions so I need help.

Once you see roots out of the bottom you can turn the nutes up to 500 - 600 ppm.

If you see roots I would start flooding three times per day. Once when the light comes on and once six and 12 hours later.

There is no need to lift the pots up to drain them. The inch of water in the bottom is used by the plant between floods.

I know there will be people who disagree, but you can flood and drain non-stop.

As soon as you flood, drain, repeat. As long as you drain down fully each time the roots get a fresh breath of air between each feeding. If your air is dry you should have zero problems.

Just don't feed at night.

And allow drying time if you use rockwool.

Best of luck.

I got almost 2 lbs per lamp last grow feeding 3 times, then 4 times per day. Not sure why someone would flood continually but I agree, it should work.

How it was explained to me was that it helped bring E&F and DWC closer together.

As he stated... "It's what the 'kids' up north are doing.."

I switched to it, and so far so good. No sign of it hurting. No stunting. I am always changing little things, so I would not say I can swear to it... But, it does seem to work well for me.
In rockwool you would probibly drown your roots, but in Hydrton it should be more than fine.

I disagree by experience. I grow in coco. Was flooding 4 times a day 5 gal buckets. It took about 2 weeks and then My plants exhibited signs of overwatering, yellowing do to roots not being able to take in nutrients, and very slow growth. I cut back to 1 time a day and after the first month of veg I switched to 2 times a day...and yes I aerate my reservoir. The roots need more air than you think.

As for flooding times of hydroton - cannot say have never grown in hydroton.

See your way of thinking is mine. I think keying them dry makes them grow slowing the roots to strech out looking for food? But I've been watering two times every day and there three times bigger than ever with soil. I'm loving how every day there bigger and fuller i don't want that to stop because I over watered. Though I thought once a day was to much and I've never seen growth this fast in veg with Jack Herer of all strains. Jack loves to grow in flower. So this is new. I'm going to give them three floods a day and will see mabey they'll grow even faster?

Keeping the medium more dry than wet makes the plant search for more water. Speeding up the growth of the rootzone which directly relate to yield.

Check out my grow in my sig I think you can relate!

DSC00092.jpgI feed more in veg to get the roots going I start out feeding every 2 hours then back it down to 3 feedings a day by the start of bloom and keep it at 3 feedings a day threw bloom. and believe it or not the drink more nutrient when you feed them less you always feed them less in bloom than in veg.

Well of course you overwatered. Coco retains water whereas hydroton does not. Apples and oranges.
