I have (2) revolt 600w ballasts and 25 dollar 60 HPS lights and they work beyond great probably for the price of one of the setup you mentioned.

I had a lumetek 400 and digilux bulb when I believed the hype about products and nutrients. These china ballasts and bulbs work every bit and if not better then my Lumatek or any other high priced hyped up brand. Just do your research before you buy there are a lot of no name no hype ballasts that 99% of the growers here are just fine with and wouldn't notice a bit of difference between the two cept your wallet is a bit heavier.

Here is a close up of a Sugar Black Rose bud I posted in my journal.
money isnt an issue, i currently have a 400w with an old ballast. I Want to upgrade to a 600w, so i figured i should just buy quality equipment with warranty's. Thanks for the info though...

Money is never an issue with me neither I have plenty of it for whatever I need, but I chose to spend it wisely. Hope you do too.. peace.

I dont trust my ballast right now, it gets too hot. In your opinion which would be a better option for a digital ballast? Im trying to settle on quantum or lumatek right now.

Quantum.. if your picking between those two. There are plenty of other ballasts that are equally if not better for less, but off hand I can't remember. I have buddies used Quantums for years never an issue, and have buddies on Lumateks and have had them in for repair, replaced etc.. I mean "any"
manufacturer is going to have issues, I think its just a matter if the buyer is some what lucky or not. All ballasts run hot, period.

I mean I have bought top of the line for years because I could, money wasn't an issue, I was buying the name nothing more expect maybe some exaggerated claims or at beast really getting minimal gains. I mean sometimes you can buy 2 ballasts for one "Bad Ass" "Lumatek" "HydroFarms" etc.. you know what. They are pretty all made in china by the same factories and people, just names warrant price and somewhat fabricate lies.

I like real world people telling me what to expect, and I research plenty myself but now I leave the "hearsay" or "unverified real world claims" these commonalities are making. I mean what better market to fool, manipulate and control then some stoned pot heads? No offense to anyone, but come on any one with common sense after a year of reading, watching and asking questions that 95% info, claims and trends are fabricated for one thing. Dollars. Not bigger buds, more lumens, special spectrums etc.. dollars.

Quantum 600w can be found online shipped for under $140. Running 5 quantums for a few months now, not a single issue yet. 5 year warranty too.

Idk about newer quality myself and I've heard mostly good things, but I had an older lumatek melt a fuse and fry its own electronics, luckily I was home to unplug it. Enough for me to not ever wanna buy another.

If you suspect your ballast is failing or going to, then yes buy another and keep that one for a "backup" in a pinch if need be. I keep all my replaced older equipment, because I run my lights at night and there is no hydro store open that late or ordering one online for a few days.

Good luck let us know how it goes, oh I wasn't implying you couldn't afford this or that, I just wanted to let you know to watch out for trends, fabricated truths etc on anything we buy in this hobby.

RIU erased my post count but I forgave them and came back!

I'd say you have it dialed in - they look like they're waving at me! How many plants are in there?

Hey everyone! I'm doing my first dwc grow just turned it on 3/9/13 I'm going to do a journal with at least once a week updates. I really could use any advice. I'm doing auto purple kush with a 300w led and hopefully adding to 36 watt hydro grow led with the new X 2 lens

what up dwc growers!

just about to start my first dwc proper. i made a baby version to make cuts for the larger one. am just waiting on long enough roots to transplant.

quick question. will i have issues with the rh? i'm a coco grower normally and am just dipping my toe. i don't want to mould my other near finished crop by adding a huge bucket of water to the room.

Hey Don cool man i think the shear rate of growth is gonna blow u away bro good stuff i do coco too and its close but dwc is a few gears ahead thats fosho..
What is ur ambient room temp?
I got my flower pad set a 78 i do get a 10 degree variance either way i just cant help it in summer it get quite hot where im at..
Its relatively dry i run no dehumidifier yet and its very rarely peaks over 30 percent on a humid day.. The buckets are covered believe it or not i get more humidity and dissipation from my coco when its running on the hotter side.. Long as u can keep ur ambient room temps down in turn keeping that water temp low i think u should be golden... I keep my water set at 68 degrees with my chiller..
Ur room temps are going to be the main factor in keeping that water cool if its not chilled make sence?
