Hey guys, im just about to start my very first dwc and wanted to know how to make a grow diary so people can look up what ive done, plus comment on what i could be doing better, i gess you know what i mean lol,
My set up, its something like a bin ive used, its 2ft deep and 1ft wide, im gonna use a rockwool cube in the net pot and riped up cube for the rest of the medium, it holds 39ltrs of water and that brings the water line about an inch into the bottom of the net pot, im only running one plant init as its my first time so im hoping to learn from this first go and also to see if hydro is the way for me. ive got a 12inch, 2x 6inch 3x small air stones to pick from nut the three smaller air stones make more bubbles plus they sit right under the net pot.
I'm alittle unsure about how much to start everything off with if i go from seed? what ppms are best to start with? as far as lighting go's i can use my 600w dule specrum bulb with its digital ballast, or my 125w cfl hanging down onto the top of the plant, for the side's and back i got 2x 24w n r g saving flo's which are higher out put than normal ones, thats for each side and the back will be covered with a box that holds 4 3ft flo's with reflectors. Im thinking about using the cfl and flo's for vegging and the 600w for flowering.
Anyways guys thanks for reading this and all the advice, tips, or anything else you can think of will be much more than gratefull scunk
Ur posts a bit jumbled skunk . I'm not sure what your set up is or want you plan is. I'd say if your making some sort of Homemade DWC like all mine are check it will hold the water without leaking as not everything holds water as you'd think (i learnt the hard way).
I personally started with an 20ltr dwc pot for my first run to get the hang of it then i built my own after and moved to 90 +113ltrs. I've got one big airstone in each of my tubs so i dont see why you would need so many if i read it right, from you've got a decent pump for your setup you should'nt need so many ( i have had 2 in each in the past ).imo

Read threads bro ,its the best advice you can get cause there's various techniques an methids used by growers on here and each person you ask is giving you there opinion , like me and im no expert but i can produce some fire shyt ...

Anyway what strains you working with?

Thanks man, with the air stones i try'ed afew and the best and give's the most small bubbles is the three small air stone's, yeah i know what your saying about the rockwool in the net pot, as it was the only thing i had here at the time i went with it before i red this reply. ill have to get some clay pebbles this week and change that.
I filled it up with water last week to see if it leak's init and there wasn't (thank fuck) the biggest thing im worrying about is a feeding program for the plants as i spent hours on line last night looking up on feeding plants in dwc' ill put a pic on here of my nutes and would love if you could recommend a starting point for feeding and how much to go up every week?
Thanks man scunk, ps can i join the dwc club en?? LOL peace guys scunk

redi jedi thats an interesting chiller, i bet it does fine if your not in a very hot environment. you could vastly improve the effeciency of the unit by adding a container filled with water to submerge the copper coil in. the water is a better transfer medium than air n will be ultimatly cooler than the air sourounding the tubing. water is also more retentive than the air therefore making the refer work less. jmo...neverthe less great job!! i love diyers +respect
You made me curious as to how vast I could improve my chiller. I've since placed the coil into a cut down 5gal bucket, filled er with water, and tossed the whole works into the fridge. I didnt snap a pic but if anyones interested, I'll post some later.

hell yea bro im all over the diy program:) i bet you improve effeciency a good bit with the water absorbing the heat n replacing it with cool. youve inspired me ive got one of those in the garage n plan on utilizing it before too long.
reminds me of a bud years ago built an ac out of a freezer n some copper tubing. layed the tubing n froze it solid in 1" increments. ran antifreez through n displaced through an old radiater n fan. it was geto as shit but the sob would run you out of the room it was hooked up to. lol just good ol redneck ingenuity :)

So submerging the coil was a definite improvement, but I think I can still squeeze a bit more cooling out of it. Im going to remove the icebox (thermoplate), cut off the excess sheet metal and put the thermoplate directly into the water containing the coil.

In its current configuration, my res temps are holding at 7 deg C below ambient. There is roughly 150 litres of water in the system. For comparison, my fridge uses 84 watts a 1/10th hp chiller uses 150 watts.

I'll be making the mod this weekend and will post some pics and performance numbers.

Forgot to say...submerging the coil was good for another 2 deg C...almost 50% improvement.

right on!! i realy want to hear of your results n post a tutorial so i can understand/copy. im not famil enough to know how to do the thermoplate. is it on coiled tubing that you can manipulate or is soldering involved?

Wk 8 now and things are looking good plants have swollen up nicely..
Every things in flush mode now.. these due to be chopped in the next 7days. Sprayed them with molasses yest and thats the last of anything but water..

Well its Sunday and I haven't had the time to mod my chiller...anyways the thermoplate is the icebox (in a dorm fridge), have a look at your fridge..you'll see a tube running into it. All you need to do is un-screw from its mounting point.

When I have the time, I will post a tutorial with lots of pics.

redij i looked at mine today n saw the set up, how much can you pull the tubes out? guess you could always cut the back sheathing to get max reach.that set up will cool a big reg i promise you...:)

Thanks man ,im starting to feel good about this harvest as lots of the buds are rock ,even the dogs small nuggs are solid:)
As for the molasses i spray them normally with gauno mixed with it ,mostly whats left of the tea i normally make for my soil plants. What does it do? now thats a debate there...
I personal feed mine and foliar feed them cause i believe it improves the taste and the fact variations of pure sugar-beet-molasses are found in different boosters . It could be all in my head as i have nt run any tests but i've grown with and without-same strains.
:joint::joint:

Unsluphered Blackstrap molasses..

He Also swears by the BlackStrapMolasses too but he's a soil boy lol. Glad for u man Dense nuggz equal healthy harvests bro looks like u got a niice one comeing!
