Dwc Buckets vs Dwc Tote(Bin)

dwc in a closet sounds sketch to me. especially with hps or mh. unless you can keep your temps down. fans, exhaust, they dont really cool shit. your water temps will be about the same as your air temps. just consider it. i had this problem. i wouldnt even consider dwc unless i had a water chiller. buy a used one of craigslist or maybe even from your local hydro shop. water temps are a huge issue tho hun. im sure you can find a little 1/4 hp chiller or maybe even an 1/8th hp. you dont need a big one at all. get one of these and any dwc config (except bubble buckets obvi) will go much smoother!! and you yield a shit load!

not sketch at all actually. I did a 1200 watt grow cool-tube inside a closet and it worked quite well. temps never rose above 77 degrees inside the room because the temps inside my house were 75 all day every day.

YOW420 is right...If you have a cooler or something holding all your plants and res in one then you run the risk of overnuting or root rotting and killing all your plants at once instead of running the risk of only killing one plant with a stand alone dwc. Not only that but it makes it easier to train your plants in a stand alone because they aren't all bunched together. You get the most of your light because you can position your plants around the lights. You can also experiment with your feeding and training doing stand alone. Plus its just a shit ton easier and cheaper to change the water. Imagine trying to change a cooler with 3 large flowering plants on top. Stand alone dwc is the easiest and cheapest method of hydro for newbies. You also don't need a chiller(waste of money if your only trying to do a couple plants). If you have problems with temp get on cl and get a window a/c and some ir foam for your buckets. Simple. cheap. effective.

wow. 2 600s only raise your temp 2 degrees? in a closet??? with no ac????? ive always used air cooled hoods. never grown in a closet, but even one air cooled light would raise the temp of the canopy at least 6 degrees. at least! and thats in a 10x10ft room. i put a 400 hps in a closet one time and reached 110 degrees in like 15 minutes. when i vented it it was like 90 still, even with 75 temps in my home. i notice a lot of people take there temps from the floor, or the wall in the back of the room or wherever. a lot of people dont go by the the actual temp right on top of the plant. between the canopy and the light. and thats pretty much where it counts the most.

ool tube hps/ mh 600 watt.. yes res temps get alil hot.. but a good fan through your light tube helps tremendously... and frozen water bottle in res can help for those having water temp issues. but root rot is caused by lack of oxygen more so than hot water.. oxygen is less in hot water... therefore multiple air stones can solve the issues without needing a chiller. but yes.. fans can help dramatically if used right. i could use a more open spread ceiling to my light. but the tube pulls the heat out. i have a 600w mh running. i can touch the glass no problem. i got exhaust fan linked to flexible duct. thent he light and will be adding a carbon filter tothe end. might raise temps a couple degrees but nothing out of control. but yes i have read of people having 80+ temps and never root rot but they have 3 6 inch stones and like a 20 gallon air pump per bukcet. i guess look at it like spider mites.. the best thing to prevent them is good air flow.. plants shaking ect. they can never get set to hurt your crop. root rot is similar.. enough air it can never really get off the ground. i wud link the 2 threads of people talking about this... but it is a competing site and i'm not sure if thats against the rules.

oh and to who started thread.. a ppm meter and ph meter u need also. ppm to check how much nutes left in water.. and ph.. which can be the trickiest.

thats cool. yeah i can touch my glass as well, its not hot enough to burn me or anything but i can still feel the radiant heat. and im using a serious fan. its all environmental tho. some place stay cooler better then others. ive had heat issues in 2 states and 6 different places man. always my biggest issue.

window ac's are beast! They work so well for cooling rooms. I had one for the room I was growing in. Now that I am in the garage I have the ac plugged directly to the box. ppm meter is a must...def agree yow. Spot on with everything you said too.

with a window ac unit some room air will be pulled out the exhaust this will lead to odor in exhaust and also co2 wasted if you run it.

right. i used to use the dual. i was running co2 at the time and did some tests. it totally sucks air from inside the room.

Thanks for the advice guys, I think Im gonna go with 3 cooler buckets(thanks dbkick) Texas heat isn't very forgiving and I read that the heat can be a pretty big problem with growing.

Plan on getting ordering female seeds online. Maybe G13 labs pineapple express . I want to grow 3 plants till veg then move 1 (for cloning later) and flower the other 2. I need a strain that will do well with sog. After harvest of the 2 i wanna try a big cooler bin with clones.

One dream at a time, baby steps. Baby steps. I need to order the seeds first, lol. ; )

eeeek, texas growing? dont tell a soul hun. i moved from okc to cali to grow legal. the laws out there just arnt worth fucking around with. in ok, if you get caught with 1 plant, its automatic 2 years in state penn. fuck all that.
if you want some seed advice, go with serious seeds. i got a pack of ak47 and pack of white russian. 11 seeds each, i ended up with 21 females!! and the buds were crazy good!! massive and dank!

good luck. consider a chiller if y0ou have the cash. makes life so much easier. especially with texas heat and summer almost in full effect. have fun, keep it simple.

Hi guys, I joined the forum 3 weeks ago and have been trying to soak up all the knowledge I can. After reading what seems like pages and pages of info (not smart, didn't retain any of it) I have decided I wanted to go the Dwc/Bubbleponics route.

Well I have a couple of questions about Dwc. Which is better to have Bucket or Tote? I know the Tote is good for cloning but Im gonna start with seeds. I know bigger roots for bigger plants right? So the bucket would be the best choice? Also the tote has very little space in between plants, how many plants can a Tote hold till harvest?

There are so many different ways to setup a system ebb and flow, hempy, drip, dwc. I want to find the easiest system to work with. Please don't flame me too hard. Im a
I have a two setups 10gal tote in side a 17gal tote, one has 3 3" inch net cups could fit 4 but plant would be real close, the other has 3 6" cups and spread out more.
