Double Ended penetration vs HPS ?

have run Hordi super blue for last couple of years just sit down when purchasing them there double + the reg price of a bulb and work great i am sad as i deleted and cleaned up all pics on pc had a shit load but after i guess getting busted a person tends to think out of ordinary and delete things rather then think

Their are much better ways of measuring how plants interact with light such as PAR.
Lumens is quite useless other than for intensity but we can find this via PAR on a better scale.

Increasing energy in the PAR range increases plant photosynthesis, (the plant’s most basic metabolic process). Each crop species has an optimal light intensity that maximizes photosynthesis and plant growth. When there is not enough light, growth and crop quality can decline; and if there is excessive light, photosynthesis and growth will not increase despite the expense of keeping the lights on.

The most common units for measuring light are the foot-candle (primarily in the United States) and lux (primarily in Europe). It is important for growers to understand the limitations of these units. Both units provide an instantaneous light intensity at the time the reading is taken. As we all know, natural light levels are continuously changing and a single measurement in time does not accurately represent the amount of light a plant has received in a day.

Just as important, foot-candles are “photometric” units based on the amount of visible light de- tected by the human eye (primarily green light). That means foot-candles are focused on people and not appropriate for indicating plant photosynthesis.

Most horticultural researchers measure instantaneous light in micromoles (μmol) per square meter (m-2) per second (s-1), or: μmol·m-2·s-1 of PAR. This “quantum” unit quantifies the number of photons (individual particles of energy) used in photosynthesis that fall on a square meter (10.8 square feet) every second. However, this light measurement also is an instantaneous reading.

Daily light integral (DLI) is the amount of PAR received each day as a function of light intensity (instantaneous light: μmol·m-2·s-1) and duration (day). It is expressed as moles of light (mol) per square meter (m-2) per day (d-1), or: mol·m-2·d-1 (moles per day).

The DLI concept is like a rain gauge.

DLI is an important variable to measure in every greenhouse because it influences plant growth, de- velopment, yield, and quality. For example, DLI can influence the root and shoot growth of seedlings and cuttings, finish plant quality (characteristics such as branching, flower number and stem thickness), and timing. Commercial growers who routinely monitor and record the DLI received by their crops can easily determine when they need supplemental lighting or retractable shade curtains.

For green plants the lighting peaks that are most important:
Chlorophyll-a: 430nm/662nm
Chlorophyll-b: 453nm/642nm
Carotenoids: 449nm/475nm
Red pigmented plants use more light in the blue area of the spectrum.

Gavitas can put down harder light on a horizontal garden but with less of a spread. Epaps give you even light over a larger area, and could be used in a vert garden. Depends on how efficient you are with your light you want to be. Both reflectors are fine. Sunlight Supply has a AC/DE hood that can be used in Vert as well (Like OGs). A review showed 1498-1524PAR @ 24". The best part the glass can be removed for added efficiency while still keeping the hood cool due to the airflow around the aluminum and not around the light supply (also increasing efficiency fractions). Using a 120v or 240v can limit your bulb selection however. the Ushio can handle both but Phillips cannot.

I just started using Ushio MH Conversion Lamps -- 600 Watt Opti-Blue in a vert setup for supplemental bloom lighting....results in a few weeks.

In personal testing I have noticed the Ushio bulbs were among the highest of all, personally they are a great buy. They deliver what you want for a good price.... I am not trolling them just use them and they are nice!
 
@Doogan I believe you dont own Gavitas as well as you do not grow.

This thread is for advanced growers. We all know about Spectrum , PAR among others as well as advanced growing techniques.

Please show photos if your legit otherwise I am in disbelief due to being a new member here mate.

I do not need spectrum photos.
All I asked was Penetration of DE.

Seems Nanolux has my business over Gavita.
No numbers to throw around but from personal experience the de bulbs out perform the se bulb by miles.
I too really want to go DE. And am also interested in the question you asked in your opening post about depth penetration.
A 1k gavita set to 1150 will penetrate further then any light you will ever need. It takes time to master the gavita. It's really that bright. If you have 8' tall ceilings you are better off with the 750 flex.

I grow a 30 year old cut at 1 gpw with a Gavita, you would have to prize my gavita from my cold grey dead hands, its a money light
