His dad left him a big chunk of money. It is not like he made it all himself. And then there are all the investments by crooked Russians and Ukrainians.
His dad gave him $413mm. I think the Russians transfused about the same sum, but it was either a loan or a subornation. I doubt that at any time his claimed net worth was anything more than fraudulent bookkeeping. Almost surely at some points he was concealing as much as $2bn in debt.

Forbes estimate Trump's wealth at three billion. I am not sure if they would be off by a factor of three, even then he would be at $1B. How did he pay for his Scottish golf course? It was paid in cash. I would hazard a guess he skimmed off of laundering Russian money.

The only way I can still suggest it is if the editors are in on propping that man up. Stranger things …

NY high court nixes Trump appeal, clearing way for testimony
New York’s highest court on Tuesday rejected former President Donald Trump’s last-ditch effort to avoid testifying in the state attorney genera l’s civil investigation into his business practices, clearing the way for his deposition next month.

The state’s Court of Appeals said there was no “substantial constitutional question” that would warrant its intervention in the matter following an intermediate appellate court’s ruling last month enforcing a subpoena for Trump’s testimony.

The court also dismissed a motion by Trump’s lawyers to stay the subpoenas, saying that doing so would be “academic,” since it wasn’t taking up the former president’s appeal in the first place.

Trump and his two eldest children, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., agreed last week to answer questions under oath starting July 15 unless the Court of Appeals decided to step in.

A messages seeking comment on Tuesday’s ruling was sent to Trump’s lawyer. Alan Futerfas, a lawyer for Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., declined comment. A message was also left with a spokesperson for Attorney General Letitia James.

The appellate division of the state’s trial court ruled May 26 that the Trumps had to undergo a deposition, upholding a lower court’s ruling that James’ office had “the clear right” to question Trump and certain other figures in his company, the Trump Organization.

James has said her three-year investigation has uncovered evidence that the Trump Organization exaggerated the value of assets including skyscrapers, golf courses and even his Manhattan penthouse to get loans, insurance and tax breaks for land donations.

A lawyer for her office told a judge last month that evidence could support legal action against the former president, his company or both, though the attorney said no decision had been made.

Trump has decried the investigation as part of a politically motivated “witch hunt” against him.

Newsom joins Trump’s Truth Social to call out ‘Republican lies’
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced on Thursday that he joined former President Trump’s Truth Social platform, saying in a tweet that he would be using it to call out and debunk “Republican lies.”

“I just joined Trump’s Truth Social. Going to be on there calling out Republican lies. This could get…interesting,” he wrote on Twitter.

“My first post — breaking down America’s red state murder problem,” he said, adding a link to his Truth Social post.

In a video supplementing his announcement, he said that red states made up the majority of those with the highest murder rates.

Newsom is likely referring to a stat offered by center-left think tank Third Way, which said in a report in March amid rising U.S. crime rates that “8 of the 10 states with the highest murder rates in 2020 voted for the Republican presidential nominee in every election this century.”

The addition of California governor, who has floated as a possible presidential candidate, is potentially a boon to Trump’s struggling social network given that it could prompt other high-profile Democrats to join.

Trump issued a statement through Truth Social pushing back against the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot for their first public June hearing.

Gavin Newsom Joins Donald Trump’s Truth Social to ‘Call Out Republican Lies’
In a surprise move, the Democrat Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, said he would be joining Donald Trump’s social network, Truth Social in a bid to “call out Republican lies.”

“I just joined Trump’s Truth Social,” said Newsom in a tweet from his official account. “Going to be on there calling out Republican lies. This could get…interesting.”

The governor’s first post on Truth Social was a short video, addressing what Newsom said is a “red state murder problem."

“Hey everybody, it’s Governor Gavin Newsom, and I know we’re all on this platform in search for the ‘truth,’ but the truth is, I’ve not been able to find a simple explanation for the fact that we have a red state murder problem. Eight of the top ten states [with] the highest murder rates happen to be red states. So the question is simple, what are the laws and policies in those states that are leading to such carnage?”

Newsom is correct that some of the most murder-prone states lean Republican overall. What the governor of crime-ridden California fails to mention is that the violence in those states is driven by their bluest areas — the cities.

Louisiana, the state with the highest rate of murders in the country, contains the overwhelmingly Democrat cities of Baton Rouge and New Orleans, which were the sixth and seventh most murder-prone cities in the country as of 2019, according to FBI statistics.

Missouri, the state with the second-highest murder rate, contains the overwhelmingly Democrat city of St. Louis, which in 2019 had the highest murder rate in the United States.

Other blue cities in red states have also hit the top ten list of deadliest cities in recent years: Memphis, Tennessee, Birmingham, Alabama, and Little Rock, Arkansas. The residents of all of these cities overwhelmingly vote for Democrats.

Eastman told Trump push to block election results was illegal

John Eastman, a lawyer advising former President Trump in the lead-up to the Jan. 6, 2021 riots at the U.S. Capitol, told Trump that their push to have then-Vice President Pence reject the 2020 election results likely violated the law, according to newly released testimony.

Greg Jacob, former general counsel to Pence, told the Jan. 6 House committee in a closed-door deposition aired at Thursday’s hearing that he recalled Eastman admitting to Trump two days before the riots that their plans would violate the Electoral Count Act.

“As a federal court has explained, ‘Based in the evidence, the court finds that it is more likely than not that President Trump and Dr. Eastman dishonestly conspired to obstruct the Joint Session of Congress on Jan. 6, 2021,'” Rep Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said during Thursday’s hearing.

Eastman was one of the leading advocates pushing Trump to pressure Pence to reject the slate of electors from certain states on Jan. 6, but Pence determined he did not have the authority to do so.

He has evidence on Roger Stone and others, Roger was the main man between the Russians and Trump and he is one of the main men between the oath keepers and Proud boys to Trump. This will give the DOJ leverage over Roger and if he rolls over on Trump...

Michael Cohen: ‘Trump Is The Greatest Grifter In The History Of The United States’
8,384 views Jun 18, 2022 From Big Lie to Big Rip-off: The Trump campaign’s fundraising tactics are in the spotlight this week after the January 6th hearings exposed a fake “Official Election Defense Fund” that raised $250 million to pay for legal fees to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Former Trump fixer and former personal attorney for Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, tells Michael Steele that Trump is a “menace” and “it’s sad to see that there are so many people out there that have so much faith in him, after they see exactly what is going on.”

my sentiments exactly...it just illustrates how far we've let things slide into the crapper due to apathy and ennui, how many fucking morons there still are in this age of enlightenment and nearly instant access to information, and how many con artists there are still taking advantage of those same morons.
we should just make voting mandatory, you get no choice in the matter, if you don't vote, your license is suspended, if you don't have a license, you have to do community service...a lot of it. lets see the republicans try to disqualify EVERYONE.

Paying people at the polls would be better, $100 if ya vote and yer ticked off the rolls, voter registration for everything, one stop with a check box on yer income tax form, like we do it here in Canada. We also have an independent agency, Election Canada, that runs elections and over sees the laws governing them. Maybe Elections USA?
